Not sure if this has been discussed since I can't search but was wondering if any naturals are sporting braidouts? If so, what is your process? Please post pics if you have them.

i only sport braid-outs lol.

When i do undo my plaits i do not comb it until my next braid-out and i wash it again.

i keep my braid-outs for about 2 days by covering losely at night with my large scarf and over that, i wear a stocking foot just it hold it in place. i looks funny haha

**To keep a braid out even longger i wear a full head baggie so that the next morning my hair is softer to manage and easy to put into a afro puff...
if i get lasy or dnt have the time to wash it i just plait my hair adding Nectuar of Nature and Gold or SSF special blend and coil the ends... leave it over night and the naxt morning back to braid out.

heres my album so you can see the pics- both folders are of braidout styles lol.........

Thank you naturaline for the tips!
How long does your puff last and how do you maintain it?

I don't have any pictures, but my last braidout was this past Sunday. I washed my hair on Saturday night in 4 sections. With the back 2 sections, each section had two frenchbraids/cornrows going down to the nape. With the top 2 sections, each section had 3-4 frenchbraids/cornrows going down to the ears. I rolled the ends on perm rods. My temple area is still recovering from shedding when I was pregnant so I flat-twisted the temple in the same direction as the french-braids in the front. I wore the braidout on Sunday. It would have lasted longer, but I had just washed my hair from wearing it flat-ironed for a couple of weeks and I was tired of it being loose. I also think the front sections could have benefitted from more braids. There were certain parts that didn't have the definition as the other parts. So on Sunday night, I put my hair in 2-strand twists. That was my first time doing twists on dry hair and I liked it a lot. It was much easier to do than when I do it from freshly-washed hair. So, I'll probably be doing the braidout to twists more often.

I do braidout and twistouts like once per month. I found that WATER is my best friend for a well defined "out". I will also use a leave in that I got the recipe from Melanzium. it's castor oil and hair conditioner. It's great. This is a twist out puff in my avatar

I start out with freshly shampooed and conditioned hair. I use Kenra shampoo and conditioner. Once the conditioner has been rinsed out, I spray my hair with lottabody setting lotion diluted with water. This works so much better than gel or foaming setting lotion. I then part my hair down the middle and separate each side into two sections. I now have a total of four sections. Within each section, I braid about 4-5 box braids. And to jazz it up a little, I roll each braid with a green bendable roller (looks like a stick). I then sit under the dryer for about an hour. I undo the braids the next morning. I then fluff it out a little. If it looks too defined, I spray my hair lightly with my olive oil/water combo. Make sure you spray lightly or else it will be too frizzy. It usually lasts about 4 days. I cover at night with a satin bonnet.

I usually wash, condition, detangle, rinse and add a leave in. I then part my hair in sections and add a little styling product to the section (either castor oil, kemi oyl shea butter pomade or whatever other butter i have laying around. once in a while i'll use gel) I make in total anywhere from 14-16 box braids. sometimes i add rollers at the ends and sometimes i dont. I need to let it dry completely otherwise it will be fuzzy and poofy,i mostly air dry but if im in a rush for time i will use my gold and hot bonnet dryer for 10-15 min to speed up the process. Afterwards i undo braids and fluff and thats it! sometimes at the end i will add a dime size amount of ashas sun kissed pomade for shine. I wear a satin bonnet at night and i NEVER comb a dry braid out, not even to detangle before washing.

I don't do them often, usually after I do a twistout. I braid my hair in a bunch of single braids and cover my hair at night. Then next day I pull them out and I use my Abba Nourishing leave-in conditioner. I have braid out pics in my album.

My routine for braidouts or twistouts is very similar to Babyblue's.

Thanks to all of you who replied. I've been trying unsuccessfully to wear the braidout but still have a couple of questions - Is the key to more definition is to braid hair while wet or the products you use? And after you take the braids down, how do you fluff away the parts?

ohhh i do my puff using a tied scarf- i redo it each day for about 5 days. i wear a normal night time scarf to bed for the first 1 or 2 nights but then i wear a full head baggies each night util my next wash- i dont comb in between the washs (only comb on wash day with conditioner in my hair). you can see my album for the other styles i do... i find it best to add conditioner to each section of my hair and braid before washing. then i gentally towel dry and sleep with a scarf on. the next morning my waves and curls look really strong and defined. each night after that i just wear a full head baggie to bed.

to blend the parting you could try massarging with the baggie on... i find that they look ok by the second day but i usually wear a scarf to pull my hair into a puff.
