NATURAL 4b's...how do you get your flatironed ends STRAIGHT!

I can never get my ends to stay straight after flatironing. They look a mess within just a few hours and I could never leave my hair out. The last 3-4 inches of my my hair looks a hot mess :wallbash:.

Please help. What is your secret?

I just ordered the Sabino Moisture Block. I hope that is the answer to straight ends.

Otherwise, I think extra conditioning and a baking soda rinse on my hair once a week, may help.

Good luck

I know that another member from another site puts frizz control products on her daughters ends and makes sure she handles those first before moving on to the roots and rest of hair shaft. Now she does blow outs, but I'm sure you can use that same concept with the flat iron? Perhaps you can get a ceramic round brush and blow dry the ends first. Just concentrating on the ends before the rest of the hair shaft may help a great deal.

Thank you ladies for the replies.

Donewit it: I have MB but I don't think I used enough either that or I may not have used it properly.

Ebzonix: I have always been afraid of using a round brush on my hair for fear that it will pull my hair out. However, your suggestion is a good one. Thank you.

Ladies, please keep the suggestions coming.

1. Baking soda rinse
2. Chi silk infusions
3. While flat ironing, comb through with rattail comb.(Of course this is after major detangling)

Good Luck!!!

the question is: What do you ends look like BEFORE you flat-iron? Because usually if they are frizzy after browdrying or roller-setting, you may want to use a serum before drying.

Before my hair was trained to be straight, the only thing that could straighten my ends was a paddle brush (a round brush does the trick too) during the blowdrying process. If your hair is 4a or b, a comb attachment will not straighten the ends.

Thanks JLove. Yes, I would consider my ends to be a bit frizzy after blowdrying, this is why I have switched to roller-setting only to encounter the same (frizzy ends but not as much as it was when I blow-dryed my hair). I think you're on to something. I have never tried using a serum before drying, only afterwards (while flatironing). I'll try it though.

I'm so not at all the person to ask about flat-ironing coz I always go heat crazy and end up having to trim my hair after obsessive repeated ironing due to reversion caused by my shower. *shameface*

But I do remember one time when I pressed my hair and the ends didn't look so hawt and finally getting them to look OK. I don't recommend using this much heat but what I did was flat iron my entire damp head section by section without products using one of those wet-to-dry flat irons. Then I went over it, small section by small section with Lustrasilk Smooth Ends Leave-In on the entire length of the hair, which made the hair silky straight except for the ends which seemed a bit frizzy. Then (yes, I did continue with the ironing--I told you I go heat crazy!) I applied L'Oreal Vive Smooth Intense Anti-Frizz Serum to the entire length but went over the ends one more time w/ the flat-iron. I then sealed w/ Isoplus pressing oil and my ends became smooth and straight.

But I dunno if you wanna use that much heat on your hair. :look:

Thanks a bunch for the suggestion. I guess I have to get over my fear of using a brush while blowing my hair. It seems to work for you guys.

Thanks. I will be applying a serum to my hair (before drying) but I am afraid of using that much heat.

I use a comb attachment and it does straighten the ends for me. The trick is making sure you blow dry your hair really well. I follow it up with my Andis flat iron.

I guess it depends on how straight you like your hair and how much hair you have. I like my hair bone straight and while a wide tooth comb attachment straightens my ends now, it did not when I was "freshly natural". You are surely lucky!!:yep:

It gets it straight enough for me. I am not really into bone straight hair.

I think it starts with the washing of the hair. This past time i made 8 ponytails, co-washed my hair, then put creamy leave in and let it dry overnite. The next morning i used my miniglide and chi flat iron to straighten sections of each ponytail. For some sections (middle and front)i used Matrix sleek look iron smoother (got it from walmart salon, a little goes a LONG way, ive had the same bottle for over a year and a half and half way used the bottle). After i'm done i use jojoba oil on my ends and wrap it and i'm good to go in an hour or so. I just did this Friday and took the pic in my Avatar. I do have a paddle brush but i couldn't find it. (So i guess my answer is conditioning, iron smoother and jojoba oil worked miracles for my ends) Hope this helps!

I'm with you on comb attachment:nono::nono: I lso think drying with a round or paddle brush gives the hair movement and body & you can concentrate on the roots with a smaller round brush. I haven't used a comb attachment in YEARS.

Can anyone recommend a good round or paddle brush?

i chase a comb with the flat iron, and my ends stay straight after that

It is hard using the round or paddle brush by yourself. I tried it.

It's tricky. Your hair seems like it is well moisturized. It only works of this is the case.

Blow dry your hair first using a heat protectant. Then flat iron. Make sure your ends are blow dried straight.

Because of the heat requirement, I don't do this often. But when I do... heaven!
