My texturizer results on 4B hair with pics Update washngo

UPDATE On Page 3 with washngo pics**

So for the past few weeks i've been feeling an ever increasing urge to texturize my hair the closer I got to starting my graduate classes. I was too through with spending between 5-8 hours on wash days and it had gotten to the point that I just didn't want to deal with my hair. The knots, ssks, shrinkage and tangles were driving me batty:nono:.

I made the decision to texturize my hair and I researched thoroughly reading blogs, watching youtube videos of long haired relaxed, texlaxed and texturized ladies who are doing the damn thing with length retention:grin:

I took down my micro braids beginning yesterday and completed today (took me over 14 hrs to take them down ya'll:nono:) and as I was taking them down, I added a cheapie suave conditioner on each braid prior to take down with the goal of slowing down my texurizer

I texturized about 3 hrs ago and here are my results. I'm completely baffled because as a true 4b (ref thread for my original texture shot http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showpost.php?p=13987569&postcount=1661

I knew not to expect any type of curl pattern based on all the reviews and research I did so I'm very surprised at my results. I must say i'm pleased with the results as the bulk of my hair has been reduced, I shampooed, used a protein reconstructor and i'm currently deep conditioning with silk elements and i can't believe how little effort these steps took. I was in and out of the shower in less than an hour. Something that has never happened to me since i began this journey.

I'm so glad that I won't have to spend hours to detangle and tame my hair each wash session anymore, my grad program is very intensive which will probably leave me with very little time to dedicate to hair so i'm quite pleased with my decision to texturize:yep:.

I texturized by myself. Shout out to @lana @BeautifulFlower @MsKibibi @sylver2 and Tracyee from KISS. They were the main ladies I spent my time researching and learning from their experiences and helpful tips. Had it not been for them, i'm not sure how my results would've turned out :)

ETA I can't forget @vkb247 for posting about the linange texturizer. It is the truth! It was so gentle on my hair. I would never have known of its existence had she not mentioned it.

Last pic is a shot of my original texture

Wow, that came out great! I'm happy for you and glad that you're pleased with the turn-out.

So how are you gonna style when you're finished washing? I wanna see the end result! :yay:

Your hair looks really cute and fluffy and still got texture.

What kind of texturizer did you use and what was your whole process?

@GoodMernin thanks for the compliement :)

I began by applying suave conditioner the one with shae and almond butter to my microbraids yesterday before taking them down. My goal was to slow the texturizer as I have extremely thick hair which tends to be resistant to chemicals.

So today I based my scalp with Vaseline and parted my hair in four sections, two in the back, two in the front. I began to quickly apply the texturizer from the back, parting small sections and applying from root to tip. Once I was done with the back. I repeated the same process to the front. Making sure to apply the texturizer to my baby hairs the last.

From there I began smoothing my hair, using my hands. The total time I’d say was roughly 10 minutes.

Then I used a small tooth comb (bad I know lol) to comb the texturizer through because it didn’t seem like my hair was responding. I did this for roughly 10 minutes as well

Next, I went back to smoothing my hair again, using my hands. I did this for about 6 minutes and it finally looked like some of the bulk in my hair had reduced.

I went to the bathroom and washed the texturizer out as thoroughly as I could.

Next I applied aphogee protein reconstructor. I let it sit for roughly 5 minutes then rinsed it out

Next I applied megasilk neutralizing shampoo to make sure all the texturizer washed out. I let that sit for about 2-3 minutes then rinsed it out.

The last step was to apply megasilk deep moisturizing conditioner to my towel dried hair. I’m still sitting with the deep conditioner on my hair under my shower cap as I plan to deep condition overnight.

I used linange texturizer, bought from beautyofnewyork.com for $11 (16 oz)

I love your original texture :(

Thanks Krystle~Hime :) I don't hate my original texture. I just hate the fact that it is so high maintenance and takes forever to get through a wash day. I also hated dealing with ssks, tangles, knots and I absolutely detested my shrinkage:nono:. I didn't like the fact that my shrinkage was seriously about 90% on a good day. I can't tell you how nice it is to finally be able to see some length even though I still have some shrinkage:lol:

Well, you know how much I heart your hair, and yes, I'm a little sad to see the old her gone :(

But the new hair looks great too, and if you're happy, that's all that counts. Who cares what I think really?

Its so funny because when I was texturizing and before I posted pics I thought of you bride91501. I knew you'd be a tad disappointed. You have been one of my biggest supporters on my natural journey:hug2:.

Who knows, when my program is completed, i might transition back to natural:yep:. I just don't have the luxury of long hrs to dedicate to my hair for the next 18 months.

I have texlaxed hair and the problem is keeping your curl pattern the hair eventually starts to have different patterns some curl, some straight, some poofy so now I always just wear my hair straight its full and one would never know. I've been thinking about trying silk elements next though.

@anh06g do you normally coat your already texturized strands when it is time for a touch up? From what i've learned, this is the main key in avoiding multiple textures. I've seen people coat with vaseline, conditioner etc :)

Edit: Another thing I noticed most of the long haired ladies doing is applying their relaxers/texturizers in a half and half method (applying to the back first, washing out, shampooing, conditioning then proceeding to the front) this seems to also reduce instances of overprocessing

No actually I had been letting my stylist do it she never did. So now that I maybe doing it myself Im definitely going to try that. I plan to get it a little more texlaxed and less straight so I wont leave it on long at all.

I like it. From what I've heard texlaxing/texturizing is the best of both worlds. Good luck on your HHJ! :)
