My Hair is growing well, but what's up!

My Hair is growing well, but what\'s up!

My hair is growing very well. I got about 3/4 inches this past two weeks, but I am noticing something. I lose maybe ten strands when I wash it. These are usually normal length strands 16-18 inch long, but after I dry it and then put my usual concoction of shea butter, olive oil and headress leave in, I will comb it through and divide it in sections to braid it up. I will then gather each section of hair and braid. Once I finish, I look at my hands and I have these tiny hairs on them (1/4 to 1/2 of an inch long). Like tiny pieces of hair broke off. I make sure that I put losts of oil and moisturizer on my hair and I have been checking the length in different sections like I always do. It is always longer, my hair is growing all over as usual, so they are not breaking off from the ends. Where are these little hairs coming from?

I think that when you're braiding hair, especially when it's wet, a few hairs are bound to break off, no matter how strong your hair is!!

I know you are going to lose hairs. That's not what I am questioning. Remember I said I lose about 10 16-18 inch hairs. Well I know that's just shedding. But these hairs are 1/4 to 1/2 inch long. That are not coming from the ends, because as I said I am measuring my hair and it is continuing to grow all over. If they are not breaking from the ends, where are they coming from?

Edie,

Maybe they're coming from your hairline? I have similar breakage, and those little hairs are lighter and more transparent, more like "ghost" hairs. They also could be hairs that have split and the last to 1/4 to 1/2 and are now breaking off. I hope that makes sense...

But wouldn't the length be shorter if it is breaking off.
These hairs are not transparent at all. They are nice defined hairs.

Remember I'm measuring I am continuing to show length. I will check my hair in the front throughly tonight and see if the hair at front is shorter in between the area of hair I usually measure.

Are you measuring each and every single hair strand on your head? Some strands can break off and as long as it is a tiny amount your overall hair length will still increase.

Honey, who in this entire forum has the time to measure every single strand. I divide it into 7 sections and measure each section. It is probably hair within the section. It is only a small amount in the comb, but it is kind of disturbing because I have never gotten this before. If a hair comes out it usually long and I assume it is simply shedded hair. The number of hairs are usually only about 10 or so so I don't worry about it. These little hairs are not that great in number either (only about 15 or so, but they are confusing.

Obviously no one here measures each and every strand of their hair (I hope

) my point was to show you that the other responses were valid possibilities as to what could be occuring and it appeared that you discounted them because overall you are retaining and increasing length. But yet these strands are breaking anyway, so something is up which brings us back to the original post. I think that there is always room for more moisture. I don't know what type of hair you have but my 4a/4b can always use more moisture. There are times when I have no breakage what so ever but then I become complacent (without realizing it) and become just a little bit rougher and oil a little less daily and then my hair shows it with little broken hairs. So maybe there is something you can tighten up in your regime.HTH.

Thanks for the info. I'm to keep an eye on it and see how long this continues. It's so weird.
