My hair is growing like weeds!...But there's a problem

Have you been stretching your relaxers so that you will have more newgrowth when you relax in order to avoid overlapping? If this is the reason you've been stretching your relaxer, how much new growth do you think you would have had at the end of your stretch? Now I'm going to say if you've achieved that amount of NG, why not go ahead and relax? I'm saying relax ONLY if your reason for stretching was to have more NG in order to avoid overlapping. If that's not your reason then maybe you could look into some low key or no manipulation styles such as twist outs, etc.

I generally stretch until I get about 4-5 inches of NG. I figure thats about 5-6 months most of the time. I still have 3 months to go so at this point i am just trying to see how much growth I can get by August. I wear my hair in a bun mostly every day or in some form of an updo, its just that I really want to start wearing my hair out soon and by the time i want to do it i will have so much NG that I can't straighten with just rollersets or even the flat iron if i have to use it.

do you think a little olive oil and a flat iron would get it straight?
Yes, I do it all the time but I do use a slight warm straighting comb to get to the roots deeper.

Oh, okay. One more question and then I am going to leave you alone. The Neosporin...I see it says AF. What's the difference between that and the one I got in my cabinet that says Neosporin plus pain relief? I didn't realize there were different types. What's the AF for?

Hi Kreeme: The Neosporin AF stands for 'Anti-Fungal'. This is the one that contains the 'MN' (2% Miconzonale Nitrate). The other Neosporin products do not have this ingredient added to them (only if it says AF, it has the MN).

Note also that the Neosporin for 'Jock Itch' also contains the same 2% MN ingredient. So if you don't see the 'AF' on the store's shelf, then the 'Jock Itch' formula is the same.

Kreeme, just ignore that it says 'Jock Itch' :p and buy it anyway. All of us here know what's it's really being used for). ;)

I've learned so much from the precious ladies on this forum.

My hair is thriving on this product and I don't even use it daily. (Hectic schedule). I just apply it to my scalp and rub it in with my finger tips. It doesn't need to go into the hair. Just the scalp.

HTH...:)

I thought it stood for Athlete's Foot, LOL!!!!!!!!!

I didn't get 2 inches in 5 week :wow: but I did get faster growth with MN. :yep: Cowashes and oil rinses help me manage NG.

I have 4b fine hair and the following helps me through weeks 7 to 10: wash with breakthru shampoo, deep condition with Motions CPR with a little oil added or Silicon mix. The trick is to allow your hair to be 75 percent wet so the hair can soak up as much of the CPR or the Silicon Mix. This helps with the tangles and my hair feels moisturized all week. This combo can easily get my hair mushy so I do a protein like emergence or Jherri Redding natural protein in between the shampoo and the con every other wash.

Thanks for the tips. I'm hoping to use this as I transition to achieve faster growth. I'm contemplating mixing MN with MTG/sulfur!

Yesterday I washed my hair and realized that I had gained 2 inches of new growth in the last 5 weeks. This is a great achievement for me except for the fact that I am not due for a relaxer until August (late August). I usually relax every 5-6 months and generally get about 3-4 inches of ng in that time, but at this rate I could have 6 inches more b4 I relax again. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to tame the ng? I am almost ready to give up right now and go relax my hair. I have been using the MN and think this could be a big contributor to the growth, i dont want to stop but i dont know what to do cuz I wont be able to deal with this ng any longer. What do you ladies do if your ng gets to be too much? Are there any products you use to make it more managable??? Someone help me please!!!

:wow: Are you serious? Did this really happen????? If so, I'm dying to have this. If I could get even 1 inch every 5 weeks, I'd have 10 inches of new growth within 1 year! I'll take 2-3 inches every 5 weeks if possible!

Wow this thread is old! I haven't had a relaxer in 2 years. But the MN does work...I used it faithfully and got lots of growth.

I also say try the coconut lime mixture or yogart pre-poo. This will loosen (temporarly) the new growth and make it easier to work with.

Wow, I fell of the MN bandwagon so long ago...I'll need to pick it up again. OP, you may want to look through that relaxer stretch thread and keep the NG moisturized.
