Yesterday I washed my hair and realized that I had gained 2 inches of new growth in the last 5 weeks. This is a great achievement for me except for the fact that I am not due for a relaxer until August (late August). I usually relax every 5-6 months and generally get about 3-4 inches of ng in that time, but at this rate I could have 6 inches more b4 I relax again. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to tame the ng? I am almost ready to give up right now and go relax my hair. I have been using the MN and think this could be a big contributor to the growth, i dont want to stop but i dont know what to do cuz I wont be able to deal with this ng any longer. What do you ladies do if your ng gets to be too much? Are there any products you use to make it more managable??? Someone help me please!!!

I'm experiencing this as well and my last TU was in the begining of April. I've been pressing my roots and just leaving it for a while. I also try to avoid manipulation during these times. I don't plan to relax for another month (12 weeks total).

I apply it to the scalp once a day but some do it twice a day. I suggest using the 4% creme once a day. I currently use the 2% but I am going to switch to the 4% when the bottle finishes.

Oh, okay. One more question and then I am going to leave you alone. The Neosporin...I see it says AF. What's the difference between that and the one I got in my cabinet that says Neosporin plus pain relief? I didn't realize there were different types. What's the AF for?

I would get a Dominican Blowout. It seems to work really well for members looking stretch out their hair. I hope Slver can chime in. She stretchs her hair out and it always looks good.

Sorry but what is in Neosporin that aids hair growth?

Anti-fungal cream aids in hair growth because it removes any fungus on the scalp and allows the scalp to breathe more to let the hair grow quicker.

I usually do the dominican blowout thing starting around the third month. It is WAY too early for that for me. I dont wear my hair down so the blowouts would kinda be a waste of money for me also right now. Maybe in two or three months i will feel comfortable enough to wear my hair down, at that point i will go to the dominican stylists.

I ended up retouching after 30 days on the MN, my new growth and relaxed hair just weren't getting along. But, I bought a new quick weave so I should be able to ride it out a bit longer this time!!

Just asking... What makes you think that this is the reason? It really doesn't make sense to me.

Ladies who are interested/intrigued by MN or AF there is about 5 threads that are pretty long that address these issues. Just do a board search using "mn" or "af"

I don't want us to get so off topic and forget about the original poster's concern.

whoa! Be careful with that one VWVixen! You don't want to jeopardize the rest of your length trying to keep the newgrowth in check. Have you tried any good stretch styles like braidouts and cute twistouts to help you last a little longer? I would just worry about touching up so frequently and the long term hair effects experienced by the length of your hair.

I read it somewhere. Do a search for MN and those should be able to tell you the reason.

Does anyone know how I should be able to tame this ng? Right now it isnt that bad but I suspect in like 3 more weeks ill be at my wits end.

1. Press roots with slighy warm comb and then flat iron.
2. Use olive oil on roots during conditioning and little after you wash out.
3. Salerm 21 after you shampoo also soften roots like baby hair.

Sometimes I do all three but all is not necesary.

Have you tried doing a DC with lime juice and coconut milk? It used as a natural straightener. If you concentrate on your NG, you might be able to straighten it out without using any heat. Lime juice and a can of coconut milk (both can be found in the "ethnic aisle"). Refridgerate first because the two have a runny consistency. Pour it in your hair after your regular conditioner and leave it on for as long as you would leave a DC in for, comb it through and when you wash it out the comb thru is very smooth, it was a lot straighter for me when I was transitioning, I used this method to help me straighten my hair. You can also do a search. Other methods would be to apply a leave in like NTM Silk touch or even MNT conditioner as a leave and tie a scarf over yournew growth. Another method would be to air dry a very snug bun with a scarf tied over the bun. This helped me a lot when I was relaxed. HTH

ETA: MN is the best!

Do I do the dc mix once or whenever I wash?

You can do it once to try it out and then if you like you can do if every time if you wish.

Have you been stretching your relaxers so that you will have more newgrowth when you relax in order to avoid overlapping? If this is the reason you've been stretching your relaxer, how much new growth do you think you would have had at the end of your stretch? Now I'm going to say if you've achieved that amount of NG, why not go ahead and relax? I'm saying relax ONLY if your reason for stretching was to have more NG in order to avoid overlapping. If that's not your reason then maybe you could look into some low key or no manipulation styles such as twist outs, etc.
