Have you tried doing a twist out instead of a braid out. When I do a twist out, I get more ringlets and curls, and with a braid out I get waves, instead of curls. So I only do twistouts now. I use whatever I have, I twist with one of the following: olive oil cream, carrot oil cream, mimosa hair honey, kemi oyl shea butter pomade, or nature's blessing pomade. I have aveda humectant which I use when my hair is out, around the edges. Anyway, I love your braid out, glad your hair is back to normal.

Tracy - more info on your twistout! I've been doing braidouts for a long time and would like to try twistouts some, too. Detailed instructions?? Pretty please!

Hey girly,
Yep twistouts are pretty easy and much quicker than braidouts. My hair is so coily, that if I braid my hair too tight or in small braids, it is hard to undo. So twists allow me to unravel them from the tip to the root, with out messing up the curl patter they add to my hair. I do twistouts 3 ways:
Quick twistout (15 minutes or less)
Do some 1 inch sections of flat twists going back to the nape of the neck (almost like a cornrow style). Secure them with a bobby pin, spray with a leave-in, put a scarf on it. When you wake up, you can wear them like that, because they will look smooth, or you can undo them for a wavy twist-out look.
Medium sized individual twists (30-40 minutes)
Part hair from front to back, and then from ear to ear. This gives you four sections. Clip each of these. Then choose one section (either in the front or the back). Make sure it is damp (mist with spray bottle if it is dry). Put some of the pomade on the section, and start taking smaller sections and twisting. After you are done with that 1/4 of your head, do the next 1/4, and repeat.
Small twists (2-3 hours)
[I do these for special occasions, because I don't have to undo them and they look like a spiral set]
They look to be the width of a pencil or a tad smaller. Since they are so small they stay together. I can keep them this way for a week, rewetting them in the shower each morning to make them springy again. When I undo these I look like I have straw set. The method is the same as above, just really small sections.
By the way you probably have noticed, I don't use perm rods on the end, but I have been wanting to try that. My ends curl up on their own, so I never thought to do that. I like the look it gives your braid outs, maybe I will give it a try on my medium sized twist out next time.
The key for my twists is moisture, and good pomade or moisturizing cream or butter, and daily wetting if I am wearing the special occasion ones. Hope this helps. When I get some time, I will get an album up, so I can show pics of my hair. By the way I always love your updates. Hope this helps.
