My hair is back!!! but my braid out sucks lol

Irresistible

my hair feels so so so much better, i cant stop touching it. its so soft and moisturized now...now im cheering Aveda, the humectant pomade (well that and the elixir and emolliant combined) truly pulled a miracle on my hair. ok so the braid out sucks, i never could do a good one though. but im not giving up, im gonna try it again, with bigger braids tonight.....and im taking any and all tips anyone can give me, to get a better braid out without starting all over with washing.

pics r up of the braid out. it may look crazy but it feels so so so good
smile.gif
whew i cant tell ya'll enough how glad i am to have my hair back!

Irresistible, I swear, if your braidout sucks, than mine must suck too, 'cause we kind of look like hair twins in that second picture. I kid you not. My braidout is looking like that right now
laugh.gif

Actually, I would wear that hair out. If I felt it were too "out of control," I would put on a headband or put it in a big ol' fluffy ponytail.

It definitely helps to let your hair dry completely. If I have any moisture in my hair, it will turn out kind of fuzzy looking.

I'm glad your hair is back to normal

Here are the tips I can offer, which I also wrote on your website:

1. Don't braid all the way to the ends. Leave about an inch unbraided and roll that portion. I wonder if perm rods or sponge roller would work for you better than the magnet rollers? I use perm rods.
2. Don't finger comb the braids once you undo them...get some oil on your hands (just a little) and then undo your braids. Finger separate them. So, you have 3 sections for a braid. Turn each of those sections into 2 or 3 sections after you unbraid.
3. Definitely let it dry completely or it will be frizzy. Maybe go under the dryer for 30 minutes or so to aid in drying. I typically sleep on mine.
4. Make sure to braid/part in the direction that you want your hair to go...although you seem to have that part covered!

I hope you don't give up. I think everyone had to find the method that works for them. Heck, twistouts might work better for you, too.

Have you tried doing a twist out instead of a braid out. When I do a twist out, I get more ringlets and curls, and with a braid out I get waves, instead of curls. So I only do twistouts now. I use whatever I have, I twist with one of the following: olive oil cream, carrot oil cream, mimosa hair honey, kemi oyl shea butter pomade, or nature's blessing pomade. I have aveda humectant which I use when my hair is out, around the edges. Anyway, I love your braid out, glad your hair is back to normal.

Irresistible, ur hair is lovely...i hope you cant get ur braidout how u like it....in the meantime, im gonna keep looking in ur album!

Hey girly,

Yep twistouts are pretty easy and much quicker than braidouts. My hair is so coily, that if I braid my hair too tight or in small braids, it is hard to undo. So twists allow me to unravel them from the tip to the root, with out messing up the curl patter they add to my hair. I do twistouts 3 ways:

Quick twistout (15 minutes or less)
Do some 1 inch sections of flat twists going back to the nape of the neck (almost like a cornrow style). Secure them with a bobby pin, spray with a leave-in, put a scarf on it. When you wake up, you can wear them like that, because they will look smooth, or you can undo them for a wavy twist-out look.

Medium sized individual twists (30-40 minutes)
Part hair from front to back, and then from ear to ear. This gives you four sections. Clip each of these. Then choose one section (either in the front or the back). Make sure it is damp (mist with spray bottle if it is dry). Put some of the pomade on the section, and start taking smaller sections and twisting. After you are done with that 1/4 of your head, do the next 1/4, and repeat.

Small twists (2-3 hours)
[I do these for special occasions, because I don't have to undo them and they look like a spiral set]
They look to be the width of a pencil or a tad smaller. Since they are so small they stay together. I can keep them this way for a week, rewetting them in the shower each morning to make them springy again. When I undo these I look like I have straw set. The method is the same as above, just really small sections.

By the way you probably have noticed, I don't use perm rods on the end, but I have been wanting to try that. My ends curl up on their own, so I never thought to do that. I like the look it gives your braid outs, maybe I will give it a try on my medium sized twist out next time.

The key for my twists is moisture, and good pomade or moisturizing cream or butter, and daily wetting if I am wearing the special occasion ones. Hope this helps. When I get some time, I will get an album up, so I can show pics of my hair. By the way I always love your updates. Hope this helps.

..took serious notes....i must get this stuff down if i want some styling options

I love your braidout Irresistible! It's beautiful! I bet your next one will be even more so.

Irres....you have beautiful hair. I wish mine was that long. I would be soooo content. I love your hair. I think it looks nice. i wish I knew how to braid or twist so I could maybe give myself a different look even tho my hair is only about ot the shoulder....

I've never tried the twist out before, but if I did I would braid my hair close to the scalp and then I would twist the rest of it. I wouldn't want my roots to be puffy that's why I'd do it that way.
