My hair is back!!! but my braid out sucks lol

Iris, you are your own worst critic. Yes, it's true that your braidout could have come out better, but girl, it did NOT suck! You've got a beautiful, luscious, healthy head of hair, and you should stop speaking ill of it.

And remember, when it comes to hair, Big is beautiful, Skinny is not.

Try braidouts again, making sure to let your hair dry completely. You'll get it right.

Hey Irrisistable,
when you do your twist out, are you going to do it by hand? Your hair is so loooooong and thick. You should get one of those Conair twist things. I can't remember the *exact* name, but it's purple and it twists your hair. It would save you a lot of time.

I think it looks wonderful! But I'm a big hair fan. I can't wait until I have a braid-out ponytail as long as yours!!! I don't know what else you can do w/dried braid-outs, I'm still trying to figure it out. But here's what's helped me keep frizz at bay...

1.) Make sure your braids are dry!!! If you notice they aren't re-braid quickly. Pull out your hand held dryer and use your Cool Shot button to finish the job!! Works like a charm! And it's fast!

2.) But sure your fingers are coated w/oil of some sort the entire time you unbraid. This is critical! Your fingers take the oil off of the braid and frizzies are the result.

I run my fingers through my unbraided hair b/c I like volume and it's gives me the look I desire.

I had no luck w/the twist-out, but maybe it's b/c of my cottony hair texture. I had to wash it out the next day. My hair was way too big and a little to... "natural" for me, straight fro w/'texture'. And let's just say it wasn't a "good look".

Irres - your hair looks amazing!

Anyone whose hair is long enough to braid out and still be basically bra strap length is an ICON to me. Further, I think the crinkles look great.

The only advice I have re braidouts is:
1. Make sure each section is completely soaked and detangled before braiding for the best definition
2. Apply a pomade or other alcohol-free holding agent
3. Allow the braidout to dry completely (undoing while damp creates frizzies on natural hair)
4. CORNROW if you can. This makes the crinkles look much more uniform and natural.

HTH

I'm trying to teach myself to cornrow for the reasons you stated Miss Brown - it's not coming naturally to me yet though...

Girl, just keep practicing. It took me a while to be able to do nice ones, but even the raggiest looking cornrows make nice braidouts
