My hair has gotten 3x stronger

I can comb my hair dry and get no breakage or shedding and it is getting thicker and thicker. This is phenomenal for my fine strands. I guess I can say I no longer have the "delicate hair I used to have. I started taking a few cues from a cousin of mine who has hair like steel. You really can change a lot about your hair. Has anyone else noticed that their hair has gotten super strong in the last few months? This was one of my major goals because I knew once I could overcome the weak hair shaft and increase the diameter of the strands and give them what they needed, that length would come much easier. I can even wear braids without my hair acting up!!!

bonjour

Her hair is somewhat like mine but I remember when her's was short and not midback to waistlength like it is now. So I borrowed a few tips from her She stated that she first worked on getting her hair as strong as could be and did not worry about the styling and kept it super simple. If she wants to go out in braids she does (her own) and only finger combs them and never brushes. For the past couple of months I have been 1.Combining my oils and moisturizing ingredients into my one deep conditioner, letting it sit longer, sometimes I do not use my microwaveable cap and just do it under bags for over an hour.
Air drying my hair loosely and leting it puff out on it's own. That way I do not have to style it to get volume. Spraying my hair in sections with Infusium, and then adding a light pomade after the sections are totally dry from the Infusium and pinning it up for the night till next shampoo. Only use pomade if it is really dry feeling on the ends. It has spring and bounce. I think that wrapping it wet, or styling it wet did not agree. I do section it and comb it out to airdry. I stopped using any moisturizing sprays between shampoos. Every second day I take it down for a couple of hours to let it breathe. But this just happens to be what is working best for my own hair now. I think it does not like being babied anymore. Because it was being treated like a sickly child, I was paranoid about "air touching my hair", that it would tangle if I did not keep it restrained. Actually it does not tangle easily anymore, and as long as I put my raw coconut balm on the ends only when absolutely necessary, it appears to be happier than it has ever been. My other important goal was thickness...and it is just bushing like nobody's business. It doesn't fall loose now when I take it down, it just bushes loose like my follicles are on springs, lol. I believe I was overdoing the ADDITIONAL moisture and the ADDITIONAL oils for my particular hair. My cousin does everyone of her daughter's hair that way and man talk about hair and long and thick and puffs !!! 3 have waist length hair. Yes they are BLACK!!!! She does not use moisturizers, uses Infusium, and grease and.... does no protective styling, and only does WHAT WORKS FOR HER.....So I am learning something . Like many have said...DO YOU!!!!bonjour

She has no problem cutting off several inches when she feels the ends are not as strong as she likes, and she has grown her hair to her waist 3 different times from the shoulders. bonjour

The point is being able to see in the flesh what this has done for her, gave me the courage to "step out of the (24 hour dedication to oil and moisture treatment- keeping my hair covered 24-7 and never going out with my hair uncovered.) I was trying to protect my hair, but I was really overdoing it!!! and because my strands were so fine and delicate...they were suffocating!!!Hope this helps someone. bonjour

Yes, my hair has gotten stronger. I really think it is because I've finally gotten serious about REALLY caring for my hair. Actually just cutting out the blowdryer has made a big difference.

Over the past few months I went from the dryer being on High with a comb attachment, to low-no comb attachment, to only drying under the dome dryer and now to just airdrying only. My hair is so much stronger now.

Every step made a difference.

I'm happy your hair as gotten longer :)

Mine has actually gotten weaker because I tried doing CO washes this summer :nono: Because of that I've decided to stop trying new things because I already know what works best.

Thank you for sharing you hair journey. I'm learning to listen to my too, except I've only been paying attention since April.

Keep on growing:)

Your hair has made great progress HoneyDew! :yep: I'm just looking at the comparison between the picture in your avatar, and the one in your siggy. Great progress!

thanks!

But, girl since I took that avatar picture, my hair has had to deal with SO much drama. The avatar pic was actually taken before my blowdryer on high heat with a comb attachment nightmare. I broke off so much of my hair in the month of May!!! :(

That's why I have stopped putting so much stress on my on length goals to concentrate on the health on my hair.

My hair was shorter then but it was so much thicker. I liked it better.

But, hey, we learn from our mistakes right!

What kind of pomade do you use; is is homemade and if so, would you mine sharing the recipe? I have recently started something new with my hair. Even though I still moisturize it everyday (AM/PM) I use distilled water instead of moisturizing sprays. I use to be natural and about 4 months ago I got my hair texturized with the wash and wear relaxer and I love it! When I went for my touchup this month she told me that my hair has grown, and that it was thicker. She also remembered when she first put the chemicals in my hair in March that I had a thin piece near the front of my head and she told me that it is no longer there. I'm glad my hair is responding, and I want it to respond more. Since I've stopped using my homemade moisturising spray with conditioner/oils/water, it doesn't seem like I'm losing as many strands of hair. I simply spray my hair with distillled water only and then put on activator by curl free that is 99.9% oil free. I then put it in a bun or at night I plait in 4 braids. I too want to start adding oils to my deep conditioner and just put on a plastic cap opposed to getting under a hair dryer. I also want to start using Infusium 23 because my hair like yours is fine but I have alot of volume.

I have a few questions; when you say you let your hair air dry, how long does it take to dry? Once dried, you then put on your infusium and let that air dry. How long does that take to dry? and if I understand you, you say it's at that point when your hair is dry you add you light pomade and you pin it up. Does the hair absorb the pomade because I thought it was better to add oils/grease when the hair is wet. How do you wear your hair during the day? How often do you shampoo your hair? and lastly, how long have you been doing this regime where you noticed your hair is 3x stronger. I'm interested because we both have fine hair and not everything will work on our hair.
