My hair feels like BUTTER - thanks Aveda Damage Remedy IRT

What a dream come true for my hair. It has never felt this good. I can't stop touching it. And I didn't even flatiron it.
Everybody needs to get some of it (especially 4s). It's awesome stuff.
Wasn't sure if I was using enough but I realized when I combed my hair and hardly lost any hair that a little goes a long way. I need to get a bigger bottle.
I would use it 2-3x/week but they recommend just 1x/week.
I usually lose a lot of hair when I detangle and dry comb but I lost about a quarter size amount while wet and another quarter size while dry.
For me that's amazing!!!

My Saturday regimen was:
Preshampoo: castor oil mixed with amla for 30 minutes
Shampoo : Jason's sea kelp
Conditioner: MT Rebuilder for 20 minutes
Rinse with Water
Conditioner: Aveda DR IRT for 45 minutes **only new item added to my usual products**
Rinse: tea (regular and chamomille) mixed with honey
Leave in: Elucence moisturizing conditioner (tiny bit)
Blowdry (without a comb attachment)
Applied gro aut oil

soft -- check
sleek -- check
tangle free -- check
smooth -- check
shiny -- check

I was MOST impressed with how little hair I lost and even my usually knotted ends were smoother and easier to handle :)

Glad to hear it worked for you! I really like Aveda Damage Remedy...both the shampoo and conditioner. I see you used quite a few products though...how can you tell if the Damage Remedy was the one working for you?

I thought of that but realized I've used the other products in my regimen before in that same way, the only new thing was the IRT. My hair felt the same as always until the IRT hit it.

I'm glad you tried it! It's one of my staples. I lurrrrve the DR line.

As soon as I'm not broke I plan to get me some more. The 33.8 oz bottles last me quite a while.

Faith, may I ask how long you've been using the MegaTek rebuilder? Just wondering how effective it may have been in reducing breakage for you. Thx!

Off an on for a few years now. I don't think it was the rebuilder just because I had soooo much slip after the IRT. The comb didn't catch, it just slipped through my hair..ends and all. I am having an ends issue  I'm sure rebuilder does make hair stronger but it has never helped in producing such a small ball of hair after combing/detangling.

I will try it again next Saturday by skipping all the other stuff and just shampooing and using the IRT then I'll see how IRT is by itself...

You should...I'm sure you'll be pleased. Let me know how you like it when you use it.
The slip from wet combing was amazing and I was even more suprised when I dry combed and still hardly lost any hair. That was a first :)

ITA About the Avedea Damage Remedy line. The shampoo and the conditioner are amazing. I am post relaxer 4 months now and am transitioning and I've never ever used a shampoo that works as well as it does. Just after using the shampoo it felt like I used a conditioner and a leave in. That's how wonderful the DR line is.

Amen to you for telling everyone, because it is the absolute truth!!!!!

I'm thinking of getting the shampoo. I have a question though. The IRT is so moisturizing so is the conditioner needed or do you use the conditioner more than 1x/week?

Speaking only for me and my hair I use both the cond. and shampoo maybe every 4/5 days.

I had issues w/ using MT and DR together, too much protein and I had some breakage. I eliminated the DR and increased moisture and it was better. Note that I am natural and probably do not need as much protein as some one who is relaxed.

i want my hair to feel like butter! i'm tired of poo'n and co'n my mane and it feels crunchy 'n brittle when it dries. i've been eye'n aveda damage remedy since this summer...i'm curious as to how good it is on 4b's? i want moisture...i need moisture and i'm wondering if it'll hydrate my hair.

eta: does anyone measure the amount they use, especially when using the co?

I just bought this and the Aveda Damage Remedy shampoo. I just used it for the first time at the dominican salon for my wash and set. I deep conditioned with the IRT under the dryer for 15 mins. My hair felt very soft after my rollerset. It seems to help with my shedding issue that I'm going thru right now. The stylist was a little heavy handed with the conditioner. She used almost half of the tube. I'm going to have to tell her not to use so much next time.

Yeah, I think this would be too much protein for my hair. Glad you found a regimen that works for you OP.

Glad you liked it. I love Aveda DR too. It's one of the few products that keep my hair soft for at least a few days :yep:.

Hey Diva,

I amd 4b/a. 75% is 4b. My hair feels crunchy and dry usually but it didn't with this treatment. My hair feels very hydrated. I don't measure how much I use but it really doesn't take a lot. I think I used more than I needed to. You can adjust how much you use when you try it.

That's exactly it. A little goes a long way. I thought I needed lots too but in the end I realized it was too much. It spreads like it's not enough but trust that it is.

Does it have protein in it?
This is from Aveda:

Organic quinoa protein. Sacred to ancient Inca Indians for its life-supporting nutrients—quinoa protein has more protein than all other grains, and is high in amino acids that offer intense treatment benefits. It penetrates and adheres to the hair shaft, helping to fortify, condition and repair.

I think it's good if used 2-4x/month. I am also thinking a person can either use a moisturizing conditioner before or after applying this.

Like others I will probably use this on flatironing days to fortify my hair.

Ok, I tried it again and my hair still feels great.
I didn't do any preshampoos, nothing. I just applied the IRT for some hours then rinsed. And my hair was still like butter :)
It actually made my rollersetting (I decided to try it again on my natural hair) a breeze. My hair looked and felt great.

This is great to hear. I just received my order in the mail today and I can't wait to use it tonight! I ordered the restructuring conditioner and the intensive restructuring treatment. I think I should have ordered the shampoo also. I'll let you know how it goes!

Okay, WOW! What's in this stuff?!! I can't beleive how soft it makes my hair. It's true, a little bit is enough...I just followed up with the DR conditioner and I'll wash it out in the morning. There's no way my hair can get any softer (right?), but hopefully this will provide moisture??? If not I'll DC with AO HSR to boot.
