My first Aphogee 2 min experience! (lil long)

Okay, so last night I was soo excited to do my first ever Aphogee treatment. I clarified with Mizani Purphying and then proceeded to use my Aphogee treatment. Kept it on for 5 minutes because I felt that I needed it. I then proceeded with my DC. In my DC I used Mizani Moisturefuse, Queen Helene Cholesterol, Molasses, EVOO and Coconut Oil. I left it on for an hour and rinsed in cold water.

I had a panic attack!!! My hair was breaking even more and was so hard! Here I am thinking that I could get away with an hour DC!

So... I shampooed my hair with Mizani Botanicals and DC again with Mizani Moisturefuse... but this time left it overnight. This morning my hair was super soft and super shiny and little to no breakage.

My question is why did my hair react like this. I have never really done a protein treatment before so I figured I needed it. I realize with my hair that a DC for an hour does nothing for me! Is it because of all the years of mishandling and not nurturing my hair?

Did you use the 2 minute keratin reconstructor or 2 step treatment?

The cholesterol may have put you into overload or you used the 2step. Usually when I use 2min, I dont DC after (is not bad you did it but you dont have to). My weekend reggie is usually, Aphogee Shampoo for Damaged Hair then Aphogee 2min. Rinse spray Aphogee green tea and apply Aphogee Pro-vitamin. Add my leave-ins and style.

I co-wash and do a soft shampoo during the week with Dr. Bronners Shikakai soap.

If I am going to rollerset or something, I wash, DC, then Aphogee 2min after. Since using Aphogee regularly, my breakage has reduced dramatically.

If you used the 2 step treatment, isn't there another conditioner to use after the 1st step?
I think you needed to have DC'd with a moisturising deep conditioner only, I am not sure what Queen Helens cholestrol is but I'm guessing it has a little protein in it.

If it was the 2 min reconstructor (it's creamy and smells nice), I'm not too sure what could have caused it.

yeah it was the two min reconstructer. I dont know either. I am happy I am getting to know my hair because if I didn't I would have had a major disaster:nono:!!

That's really interesting... I use the 2 min reconstructor as my cowash conditioner once every 2 weeks and I follow it right up with a moisturising conditioner cowash and I don't have any problems...

Hmmm... could the cold water have hardened the coconut oil? I mix coconut oil in my DC but I always rinse out with warm water and do my final rinse with cold water when everything's been rinsed out...

I don't agree with what you've stated here... there is no need to use a moisturising shampoo after a clarifying shampoo. A clarifying shampoo has stripped enough from the hair, you don't need a shampoo, moisturising or otherwise, after clarifying... all it does is remove more from your hair.

It doesn't matter if it says it's moisturising. If you want to add instant moisture to the hair after clarifying, it would be better to use a moisturising con for a few minutes, than a shampoo.

P.S. Protein then moisture DC is what I do after clarifying.

you dont use the aphogee AFTER clarifying. You use it after a moisturizing shampoo which is to be used after clarifying

I knew that my hair needed something to strengthen it so that is why I opted for the Aphogee treatment. I read in an article written by Aubrey Sivasthoy <--(i think you spell it that way), that if your hair is in an ambiguous state to do the clarifying which will strip your hair and then start fresh i.e. protein then deep condition. I did it the way that I thought I was supposed to. Maybe the cold water hardened the coconut oil, but all I know is my hair was extremely hard at the new growth and my relaxed hair was breaking. I am 6 weeks post relaxer. I am trying to give my hair a break from relaxing so I am trying to stretch to atleast 12 weeks. I just dont understand why my hair doesn't do well with deep conditioning unless HOURS have passed. I do suffer from very thick and dry new growth.

Maybe your hair definitely needs to be DC'd with heat or for a long period of time? Sorry this happened to you..

WHEN EVER YOU USE APHOGEE 2 MINUTE OR APHOGEE 2 STEP PROTEIN TREATMENT, ALWAYS FOLLOW WITH THE APHOGEE MOISTURIZER!!!!! The Aphogee moisturizer adds moisture back to your hair. Follow with a Aphogee leave-in and follow with your coconut oil.
Hope that helps! :)

Should I be using the Aphogee shampoo as well?

I use the 2 minute once weekly. It always gives me a lot of slip and it never leaves my hair hard or breaking. I use it in the shower for 10 minutes and then I dc.

Normally I'd agree but with aphogee most people say not to use it right after clarifying. I use it after Pantene Clarifying then Nexxus Therappe.

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience with Aphogee. I thought I'd try it but my hair hates it.... no matter what it is,,,, if it's Aphogee my hair revolts.

Can you remember how your hair felt after the 2 minute treatment? My hair is usually soft and manageable even though it is a protein but as the saying goes what works for some doesn't work for everyone. It does seem like you added a lot of stuff to your DC afterwards. Definitely check your ingredient lables for other proteins. I can't use the 2 minute treatment and follow it with CONs purple conditioner because of the protein content in it.

I'm sorry, I'm going to have to give you opposite advice. The balance mousturizer that Aphogee has (IMO) is GARBAGE. Its not moisturizing AT ALL. The only time I use it is with the two step and that is because that is considered the "second step" and even then i DC for 10 minutes with my normal conditioner. I dont want to say your main problem was clarifying because I think its good to clarify if you have tons of buildup BUT..are you sure your hair needed protein? Did you do a strand test?

I think your problem may have been clarifying and using that strong a protein at the same time. Individually they can be very drying so collectively they must have put a hurtin' on your hair. I made that mistake once and the only thing that helped was a hot olive oil treatment followed by a nice looong dc.

No way would I use Aphogee 2-minute right after clarifying. I'd definitely suggest a moisturizing shampoo after the clarifying poo...then the Aphogee.
