Hey ladies - yeah ANOTHER bkt thread - lol

I know alot of pple are worried about the formaldehyde but i think its the greatest thing since apple pie - and i only plan to do it twice a year. i'm 75% natural, 25% relaxed 3c,4a - bsl length. I just got it done two weeks ago - the chocolate formaldehyde FREE global one.
take if from an INSANE hair addict, the treatment is great. Relaxers ruined my hair with over and underprocessing - and transitioning in the beginning sucked. i also tried a naturalaxer years ago that ruined my hair as well. BKT is different and its not permanent - its especially good at helping to retain length for those of us who get alot or breakage. its the only thing that blends my natural and relaxed hair and also helps me see LENGTH. and dont worry about the heat - all i had was a light blowdry ONCE and then a reg flatironing in small sections. If your just using if for manageability - u NEVER have to use heat after that initial application. if you do wish to use heat, u can do that too - ur hair will be protected and get straight alot faster.
I'm not getting paid for advocating this stuff, its really THAT good.
I've attached some pics
1st is my before pic - the way my hair normally looks dry
2nd is my hair day after reg salon blowdry and wrap -its poofy like cotton candy
3rd is my hair day after BKT

unfortunately i did not take a pic after my first wash. i might take one after the next wash. I didnt have to put any product in my hair - it just airdrys in waves.

p.s. if the attachments are hard to see, they get a bit bigger once u click on them

ETA - i added wet and air dry pics - see page 4

ETA AGAIN - i added 3 months after pics as my hair begins to revert - see page 6

Looks good, I'm too scared to try it because of all the heat that it requires but it looks nice.

Your hair looks great!!

Yes, this treatment is the best thing since sliced bread. The bolded and red parts are so very true!

Is this the brazilian keratene treatment? Did you get it at a salon or can you apply it yourself at home?

I have the same problem as you excessively dry hair and I had my bc in Nov 08. I have been thinking that I have to do something because it's getting ridiculously dry and hay like. I've tried the HS 14 in 1, and the Miss Jessies products. Today I said to myself let me spray on some of this s-curl activator that I have. I did it and it softens my hair but I hate hate hate the residue it leaves when I touch my hair. I really don't know what eles to do. I am really trying to stay patient with my natural hair, but dang something is going to have to give here. I think I will do some research to see what this product does and does not do for natural hair ladies such as myself. Thanks so much for posting this, maybe this will do the trick for me because I swore I would not go back to relaxers but at this rate I am getting a bit sick and tired of my dry hair and the way it feels!:spinning:

Mmmnn, you are the first to make me a little interested in this stuff. How often can you get it applied?

B/c of the cost and b/c i ALSO like my natural hair - i only want to do it twice a year. A person who ALWAYS wants it straight should do it every 3 months, but according to several stylists and websites, u can get it done up to once a month if ur hair grows fast.

i went to the salon b/c i wanted it to look GOOD - lol. i get tired and lazy and start slacking on the last pieces of hair when i do haircare at home - lol, but alot of pple on this board buy it and do it themselves.
i did it for the same reasons as you may have - i WAS DESPERATE and refused to relax my hair b/c i was not gonna to be a slave to the crack. now i found new crack that wont weaken or damage my hair - its finally growing - woo hoo!

your hair looks great! where did you order it?

I got it done at the salon and they want to be all secretive about it, but i knew all the brands from LHCF, so i just kept mentioning them and mentioning them until she told me which one it was. i guessed the global keratin one and i was correct. there is a link on one of these BKT threads, but im guessing you can just google it if anything.

Your hair looks great. Did you see anyone that's fully relaxed getting it done? If so, what were your thoughts. Also, I see you're in NY, can you PM me the name and location of the salon you went to? Thanks!

You had great result with the formaldehyde free version. I am still researching and I will be following people's result to be sure it is reversible. I really dont want heat stretched hair.

I PMed you. i didnt see anyone relaxed getting it - i was the only one getting it that day - same the last two times i had it done (both at different salons) but i hear its AWESOME on relaxed hair.

This is the third time i've had it done - and somehow the formaldehyde free version came out the BEST. i dont know if it was the stylist.....
In any case - im not rich, so i've let the treatment wear off and yes my hair reverted and its not heat stretched. My avatar is my hair in-between BKT treatments while wet - i think it was starting to wear off at this point but sometimes its hard to tell. i dont use alot of heat on my hair as a general rule - thats why i only do the treatment twice a year - to get a good length pic. if i want it decent w/out the treatment, i will just rollerset, blow the roots and wrap to make straight - the second pic on my original post - you can DEF see the difference so i know my hair reverts - lol.

I still can't do it unless I see a fully relaxed lady get her's done. I'm too chicken. And I'm 18 weeks post. I was hoping that this would allow me to stretch up to 24 weeks, but I can't take that chance if I don't see any relaxed ladies taking the plunge.

Thanks so much for sharing. Your hair looks absolutely gorgeous!!!

In my research, I keep reading that relaxed, texlaxed and otherwise chemically processed heads have the best result. Something about the cuticle lying flatter on virgin heads makes it more difficult to penetrate.

Here are a few links for you. The second lady in this vid is relaxed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-gfpD7n6lc&feature=related

These youtube vids are of a BKT in curacao. Fantastic results. It's a different kind of product, probably with higher formaldehyde because the hair only has to stay straight for an hour before they wash it out. Awesome results. The first link definitely looks chemically relaxed.
