ccd--I also rollerset my hair, which use to be the way I wore my hair mostly--unless I was wearing a sew-in weave. I am a recovering weave-addict. haha Lately though, I've been wearing my hair airdried. Since I just got my hair trimmed--my hair airdried looks 100% better. I'll post some new pics soon.
When I rollerset--I use the same products that I use with the knots. But when I airdry, I still use the Mango Butter, but I also use Dark & Lovely Naturally Honey Wave Glaze--this stuff is awesome. I think it's a little hard to find though.....
I'm interested in tryng this style model, but a few more quetsions....do you wash daily and do this or do you do it once a week. if it's once a week how do you maintain it day to day?
I'm tellin' ya--the Honey Wave Glaze is worth trying!
nelle106--I can usually make this style last about 3-4 days. The first couple days, I of course wear it down. At night I pin it up with bobby pins so I don't smash the style. Usually the last day or two, I'll do some kind of pinned up style with it. Check out my photo album (not the hair album)--the very first pic titled "Miami"--is my normal pin-up style.
No--not pinned up in knots, just pin up the loose hair so it's in sort of a puff on the top of my head. This helps maintain the style--I also do this with rollersets as well.
I don't really moisturize it daily unless it happens to feel dry--but that's why I luv the Mango Butter because I find that it maintains the moisture in my hair for a good few days. I DO however spritz my hair with one of those shine sprays--or oil sheen daily just to refresh the style.
I tried this yesterday night before I went to bed. It came out good but I wanted to come out great. I will keep practicing though
I used :
Carrot Oil / Emu oil
Neutragena Leave-In Silk Touch
The Serum also by Neatragena
Feels Like Silk by Elasta QP
1. I sectioned my hair. I had six sections in all. Two in front Two in middle and Two in the back.
In each section I did the following:
1. Comb throught to make sure I did not have any tangles.
2. Put a dab of carrot oil/emu oil
3. Put Neutragena Leave in - just enough to coat the hair.
4. Neautragena Serum - just a dab.
5. A little squirt of Feels Like Silk and preceed to twist the section of my hair around itself.
6.Secured with a pin.
When I finished all of my sections I put on my head scarf and went to bed.
In the morning I took off my head scarf and took pins out and unwinded each of the 6 sections. It was still a LITTLE damp though. I was in a rush to leave so I just put hair in a pony-tail because the curls were not going in the same direction. But overall it looked good. I will retry it tonight but I will make sure I twist my hair in the same dirertion. This was my first attempt but I liked the results. I will give the style a 8.9 out of a 10.
FYI:
I am relaxed but have not had a perm since Dec.
My hair was not soaking wet... meaning that I did not
wash my hair before I did the Bantu Knots. I had washed and blowed dried and did a horrible job of flatironing it 3 days before so i did not feel the need to rewash it.
Maybe I should try this style after I wash my hair and sit under the dry for a little while
Thank you for inspiring me to rock such a great style !!
P.S. Can I take over your Volkswagon Convertible Beetle? I don't want you to mess up your do girl with all that wind.
I always wanted a beetle since I was a little girl. I did not care if was ragedy or rust.lol When they came out with the modern version of the bettle I was so excited. But when I saw the modern covertible beetle I was 110% convince that it was my dream car. If you ever need a car sitter I am always available !!
Nope, I don't necessarily twist in the same direction--actually I think I twist each side of my hair in opposite directions. I haven't found that this is really a major factor of how it looks in the end...
Aaliyah--my hair is always damp the next morning too--so now I sit under the dryer for about 30 min. and then I go to bed.
Awww, girl, ur so sweet. I am going to have to take another one of my 'self' portraits so more than likely u guys will get a glimpse of that damn flash
