Miko & Miss Jessies/Curve Salon Back in August

I read on Miko's website that she is returning to NYC in August 08. I want to know if any of you ladies will return or visit for the first time when she reopens?

I'm glad that the sisters worked it out and realized they needed each other. Miko's testimonial pictures were pretty terrible and I doubt that all the drama, the lying about their grandma, and the salon closing helped her business in DC. Most members here can recreate the silkener process themselves. The value really seems to be in the haircuts.

Yes, the story I learned here was that their grandma did not come up with the silkener like they said originally. Miss Jessie was real, but the story was not.

ETA: And, also there was something about their original product was a knock-off something else, they were sued and had to change the formulas. Do I have that right?

Yeah ummmm she needs to go back to NYC. those before and after pics sucked. most of them looked like they had over processed hair or looked like bone straight clients attempting a wngerplexed not cute.

You probably won't believe this, but my mother's ex-boyfriend was the father of Miko and Titi. Without revealing too much he lives in Harlem and is a real estate broker. They almost got married but just broke up this summer.

ANYWAY, I'm not too sure why they broke up but I think it has something to do with Miko moving to DC seeing as though their business and manufacturing warehouse was in NY. They were also involved in a lawsuit back last year (I'm not sure if its over) which THEY didn't tell my mom, Miko's son blurted it out, something about their product being a straight jack off of another product thats already on the market.

My mother's met them and I met Miko @ her apartment when she lived in Brooklyn. Also babysat her son one time.

their cuts, products, EVERYTHING are too dang on expensive. i only got the buttercreme cause it was ten bucks on the exchange forum...i love it but i cant afford to keep trying their products. i want that angle/balance thing but nuh uh.

Wow this stuff is expensive. With the "recession" not sure how they can stay in business with these prices.

There is so much more on the market that women can get now that does the same or almost the same. I wish them the best.

I am happy that the sister's have reconciled. I probably won't be going back to them, I am happy with the cut I get from my current stylist A. Dickey.

I like their products and they are a staple for me. I make sure to purchase in December when they have the two for one sale. It gets me thru the year along w/my S Curl products.

They always did a great cut on you So1913. Looks like Dickey's handling his business too.

I would LOVE to get my hair colored and cut there, but it's expensive for my tastes. I may treat myself next year when I plan to visit NYC again...maybe...

I stopped by the Miko salon a few weeks ago to purchase the 2 newest products and got a chance to meet and briefly speak with Miko herself. She was very nice and personable, she thought I was there for an appointment and complimented me on my hair twice. I just had to share that because I had been a fan of their salon since I found their site in 2002....Anyway....she mentioned the DC salon would close on August 2nd and she going back to NYC. However, she didn't say that she was returning to MJ's. Also, a good friend had her big chop done there about a week before I stopped in and she had already told me Miko was returning to NYC and opening up a new salon. My friend asked was her sister going to be there and she said no. So I don't know.... I guess we will know for sure next month.

ETA: I tried to observe as much as possible while I was "reading" the ingredients on the products... The salon set up was very nice and it was buzzing with activity. She had a nice spread of food out and was very focused on each client. She was rotating everyone thoroughly. She also had a team of assistants and gave them very direct instructions but she did all consults/pricing and cuts and chemical herself. All the client seemed pleased and very happy to be there and did not flinch at the prices. I caught the tell end of price consult and the client was like "I want my hair to look good". So the price was not an issue for her. I also got a free Miko T-shirt! I must admitt I almost made an appointment just to say I had the experience. That was until I had the receptionist go over the rates. At this point in my hair journey I'm not sure if I need the Miko experience anymore. I've pretty much mastered most of their styling techniques and don't want a major cut. But if I had $300-400 bucks to just blow on whatever....I would def go.

Maybe one day I will splurge!

I have ordered all of the Miss Jessies products are they are expensive. I will get more in December when they have the buy one get one free. Also I ordered the two new products that will arrive to me on Monday. I will let you all know how the two new products work.

Went there early in my journey, for damn near 200 bucks they colored, DC'ed, trimmed and shingled my hair, and their products made my scalp burn. After informing them of the issue, they tried to make it seem like I put something in my hair prior to coming to their shop which had a negative reaction to their product (I didn't) and if I did, they shampooed my hair, which would have gotten out any so called product I did have. Their shop sucks. Most people leave with the same styles, a shingle or a braid/twist out...occassionally a flexi rod set.

Check out so1913's hair...he does her cuts. I think he is still expensive for a cut....$187 at least and it may be more because that was last years price. But if you think about it, you only need 2-3 hair cuts a year so its not so bad.

Yes, I saw that last week. That info was not on MJ site back in July when i first posted. But I'm glad the sisters are back together, but sad we don't have the option here in DC anymore.

whomever said that everyone leaves with the same style and cut is right, you will unless you tell Miko to cut it differently you will get the same angle curly cut. And you will spend $500 or better between the service and the maintenance products.

Compare that to Orlando Pita's salon, who is a top high fashion stylist and you will probably get one of the better haircuts you will ever have ever in his salon and you'll spend less than 300. But if you are particular about your hair do you.

The price was the same when I went a little over 2 months ago...I'll be seeing him in a few weeks! I have straight hair pics in my Nov 2007 album, that was after a cut and flat ironing from Dickey.

I've been wondering the same thing, no one has answered this yet. I do hear a lot of neg. feedback about the 2 and i'd like to know whether or not her DC salon had caved in.
