Yesterday I went to a Haitian festival and I was surprised at how many naturals I saw there. When it was over I was walking by one of their tables and they all complimented my hair and I was complimenting their hair because they have much longer hair than me. Then we started talking about protective styling, hair regimens, styles and then we branched out into movies of all things. :lachen:It was hilarious. They invited to hang out with them later on. To think all this started because of our hair. Anyone else experience this?

Yup. When I started a new job me and another new hire with natural hair sparked a friendship that began with natural hair. Since I've been there a little over a year, I've made many new friendship that began with asking hair questions. It's funny!

Can't say that I have. Down here in New Orleans,I don't get approached by anyone while I'm rockin my natural hair. I on the other hand have NO problem complimenting other naturals on their hair. Yes they look at me like I'm slightly retarded, but I do it anyway. Now that I'm moving to Puerto Rico next month,I have no idea what to expect.

:lachen:I know right? Maybe it's because you know right off the bat that you have something in common.

NikkiQ From my experience there are a lot more naturals in the Caribbean in general as in the US. Maybe things have changed with the natural hair boom going on right now but that's what I saw when I lived there.

Hey caribeandiva!
Lol allll the time. I think its cute.
Its like a secret language, because nobody else has any idea what we're talking about.
Using terms like cowash, pineappling, shingling. My relaxed friends look around like . . . :look:
Lol, I think I just like using hair terms outside of the board. :sekret:

I live in a college town so I see a lot more naturals here than at home. Everybody seemed to jump on the natural bandwagon down here a few months ago and BCd so I'm actual one of the naturals down here with long hair even though nowhere near as long as LHCF standards. But since I'm one of the naturals down here not sporting a twa I get questions all the time. I actually find it kind of flattering and its always fun talking about regimines and hair products. I've actually met many people through my hair. Lol.

I usually get approached by women who are transitioning or who are natural and want to know what products I use on my hair. I haven't made any friendships, but it seems I'm often in a conversation with strangers about my hair.

I can be anywhere, at the doctor's office getting my blood drawn, as the needle is going in, "so how many twists do you put in your hair?"

A lot of times I don't feel like my hair is all that, so it helps me to appreciate what I have.

Exactly! My relaxed friends were giving us all weird looks and stuff. They here like: "Here she goes again" because they know that I'm passionate about hair. lol
