I wear this scarf thing daily.
Im wearing it until I can get a decent ponytail.

I wear my hair like that to work on Fridays. :)

They look so beautiful....
Yes, we still cover after marriage because it is a commandment from God that serves a social good not as a marker of possession by a man (lol we don't even take their last names!). The idea is that when men AND women observe a certain level of modesty in dress and behavior that society as a whole benefits.

That said....

AS A WARNING TO LADIES PARTICIPATING IN THIS "CHALLENGE":

1. PLEASE don't forget that although covering the hair is a plus, the MATERIAL you use MATTERS! Wool, cottons are TERRIBLE for your hair! They are drying and WILL cause breakage! Just like how we don't want our hair brushing against our collars made of these materials, it's 100 times worse when it's ON your head. Be careful!

2. I have noticed that since I started wearing the tied back style that I do, my edges have suffered GREATLY. I never ( I don't think?) had those problems when I wore traditional hijab, so this is something you may want to look out for. Maybe the "safest" bet in terms of protection is just a silk oblong casually tossed over, like how Kenyan or Pakistani women wear. Then you would have the benefit of both (but I wouldn't recommend it if you wear for religious reasons because of the slippage!).

This site has lots of options and free shipping:

Hope this helps!

I simply love this thread. I am a Muslimah who covers as well. I sincerely appreciate all of the respect that has been shown toward us who do. Honestly I too have noticed a difference in my hair by it not being exposed to the elements.

As another sister stated I do see a difference in my edges when I do not cover in the traditional sense but simly tyed to the back. I just pray for the courage to begin to wear it properly daily. It is not easy but with such positive feedback I am inspired once again:)

its sold out. who is guilty of buying it. come on people!!! they just have this ugly green color left. :wallbash: where else can i find that scarf? lol thanks

Want me to see if I can find a crochet pattern? This thing looks easey peasey to make.

Trying to learn so looked it up:

"mashallah.

Literally, it means “as Allah has willed”. "

Sooo, Kamilah looks "as Allah as willed"??

I dunno for sure but I think the point is, "glory be to God" as in she looks beautiful not coz of her own doing but because of God's handiwork. Methinks.

In other news, this is one of the best threads I've read. I wear scarves all the time and I have had warm hood scarves but never thought of how similar they are to a hijab or even thought of wearing scarves like that. I even had a tube-like thing (looked like a sleeve) that you put around your neck and then lift it over your head. Yet it makes so much sense to wear scarves that are so covering as it is bloody frigid out there.

Thanks y'all for all the cool ideas and very practical look.

They are worn under the hijab with the beautiful embroidered section to the front.

Thanks ladies - I especially love these looks. I'm in the Bun for a Year challenge and my poor little bun is so pitiful. I love the bun wraps and I will definitely try some of these! I'll ease into it with solid colors and only wear them on casual Fridays and weekends. :yep:

I would love to join, I did not know anything about it. It gives me a reason to post pictures. Thanks for starting it and for the great pictures. I wish my sisters was on the this forum it would be soo fun.

Why does it look so lumpy!?!

Now that I'm looking at it again, I'm sure you're right, Kiya.

Hijab and scarf-wearing ladies,
How is your hair growth coming with such complete protection?
