Macherie's Blowin' in the Wind Challenge - No Heat for 4 Months!

Oh i'm totally in!!! (if it's not too late)

I'm going to cowash every other day
braidout/twistout/buns will be my hairstyles of choice

I plan on experimenting with different conditioners and moisturizers/leave-ins this summer as well

Ok ladies, so I have been doing the wavy/curly look for all of this month so far. I am trying to take it back to the throw back style. i washed today and DC'd, I applied a leave-in and some lacio lacio and wrapped my hair, I added some mango butter around the edges, hopefully to hold down the NG. I wrapped it tightly in a scarf so it dries smooth. Hopefully tomorrow I can post some good results. Wish me luck

Good Luck!!

Hey lady,
I still haven't used a pass, still no relaxer... and after seeing FM's beautiful braidout I think I will try it tonight. The only heat I've had is this hot a3$ Texas weather... that doesn't count right... if so then I need to get the boot :lachen:

Girl, tell me 'bout this heat going on in TX right now!!! Whew!! Also, when you do your braid out, if you roll the ends with perm rods, I use end papers...it makes the ends have a real smooth curl...HTH!

So here are the results of my no heat wrap. I put the details in my fotki, but here is the pics. I'm pleased, especially since I am five weeks post. Trying to make it to 8 or ten weeks before I relax.

Quick question. Can I use hot oil treatments? I ask because the oil will be hot, but I don't use additional heat.

WOW! Great job! I think i may be a bit to thick in new growth to do this... Oh well.......

It looks nice! I think you can do the hot oil treatments as long as you don't do direct heat (heat cap, hood dryer, etc.). Heck, the water from the shower is hot:lachen:, i don't see why you can't use hot oil...i dunno, tho-, you better wait for an official response...

Hot wasn't the word for it this weekend and today... goodness! Thank you lady... I chickened out on doing my braid out, but I am going to try it! Yours looks so beautiful... so whatever suggestions you give me I will be all ears!!!!!!!

HOT OIL IS A GOOOO! :woot::clap::yay:

i will be co washing everyday and bunning or braiding and pinning up.
i will mostly be using vo5
but sometimes i will deep condition with aveda.
i will moisturize with sheabutter and carols daughter hair milk and sealing with coconuti oil or keracare essential oils.

I was thinking that same thing today in the shower. I was thinking I could apply the hot oil, prior to the shower and rinse it out in there after my bathroom got steamed up and the goodies soaked in.

Your hair is pretty. I love the texture. Ever think about transitioning?

Thanks. I have thought about it, and I plan to seriously attempt it in the not so distant future. I think it mostly depends on if the Sedu turns out to be a miracle appliance, because if I can't get my hair straightened (and to stay that way) when I want being natural won't be for me. I straightened a section of my hair yesterday and noticed before I was even done with the one small section, my natural roots had begun to wave up and rebel. (But I don't have a Sedu... yet)

Girl, this week is no joke in TX! Good Lord!

I kinda followed Traycee's method and it is working SOOOOOO good on my hair.

Here's what I do:
  1. I wash and condition and/or DC
  2. Use about a half dollar sized amount of V05 conditioner (just plain cheapie kind) as a leave-in.
  3. Use about a quarter size amount of pure coconut oil all over that as a sealant.
  4. Braid 'prolly 3/4 of the way down, put an end paper on the end and roll up to where I stopped braiding. I do about 9-11 box braids
...that's it. I usually wash at about 9pm when I get my kids in the bed. It takes about 30m start to finish and I put a triangle scarf on to protect my edges and go to bed. When I wake up, I just take the rollers and the braids down. I don't separate the sections, tho bc my hair is usually still a little damp. After about 1 hour, I can separate the strands with my fingers to get the more full look. It's so easy, I hate I haven't been doing this before. I think I will prolly do this A LOT throughout my transition and even when my hair is fully natural...:yep:

Yeah sure. We are going to the end of summer. For some ladies that August. For others, thats September. You are alotted 3 passes. Notify us when you do. Enjoy it! No Heat increases your hair's thickness significantly.

Thanks for adding me:yep:
Also i want to add that the styles posted in the beginning of this thread are lifesavers!!!!!!!!!!!

They look good even on my inch or two away for shoulder hair!!

I love you guys!LOL!!!

Thanks ladies.

I have to say thanks for this challenge because today my SO told me my hair looks stonger and thicker. Also that the natural redish color is coming out more naturally and popping. No heat is very good for my hair. It was just blowing in the wind while he and I were outside discussing our plans for yardwork. It shocked me, didn't think he noticed.

I will join this one. I am already having trouble getting my newly relaxed hair to act the way I want it to. So I am in. I will probably keep the wash and go alive for this challenge.

:grouphug:We love to you!

Awwww shucks!!
Thanks lady!*sniffles*

Okay so i wanted to ask a question.
Since we can't deep condition under the hooded dryer,is it okay to do it in the sauna at the gym?
I'm in the deep condition challenge also, but slapping on some condish and going out in the sun has been working for me,so if i can't use the sauna then i'll keep doing it like that instead. Thanks!!!

Thank you hair Idol #1

I'm going to go ahead and join. I think I will be doing twistouts for the rest of the summer, and I don't need heat, so why not... I'm going to be washing weekly, and co-washing every 2 days. I'll use AO conditioners for my DCs (with no heat, of course), so I can do that before I wash.

I'm going to be relaxing my hair soon :( I was planning on not relaxing until August but my mom is getting on my nerves about it... 21 weeks still is a good respectable stretch... hopefully I'll be getting some Megatek soon and have it immediately afterwards.

Oh I detangled my hair with my spritz mix and put it in some celie braids... it's horrible :lachen: I'll be back with a pic to show how short my hair is all shrunken up and post to compare and see how much it stretches when it's straight. My family is trippin'!

I have ONE more pass left...:nono: I relaxed my hair this week. It came out great.

Yay! I'm glad your relaxer came out good! :yep:

I still have my two passes and I don't think I will use one of them this weekend like I planned. My braidouts have been so nice looking, I think I will wear that to the bridal shower instead and not worry about using a pass or straightening 3 month post NG...:lachen:

This is the first weekend that I actually had to fight the heat urge. I haven't straightened my hair since I joined the board two months ago...now I have three more months to go :perplexed I'm gonna ride it out and pray the urge passes
