Me too. I've been using Affirm Mild No-Lye for Dry Hair & Sensitive Scalp for about 5 years... I've thought about switching to the Fiberguard but I figure if it aint broke, don't fix it!!
My stylist agreed with me, too; he said my hair does well with the no-lye.
Sherry, I live in Parkchester in the Bronx, hey Bronx Sistah! I think your hair is georgous. I have to admit though, you look like you got some indian in you girl if you know what I mean. You look like you have the natural nice grade of hair. Your still my idol though. My little girl has that curly wavy hair texture 3B or something and I am fighting with it. My hair on the other hand is coarse. I would like to try this relaxer you talk about on my hair. Do you know if I can find it in any of the BX BSS? If not, where did you find it? Please PM me with a response if you don't mind.

I know this is OT and I'm not trying to be offensive or mean, but the term "grade of hair" should be banned from the African Diasporan lexicon. This is just my humble opinion

I, myself, am beginning to take this matter very seriously. That's why I recently switched to PhytoRelaxer Index 2 which is totally lyeless. Sometimes my scalp itches so bad, it is ridiculous even though I was my hair every week. It could definitely be the lye in the relaxers......
Thank you for bringing up this subject........

Yep I start itching like crazy right on the 6 week mark post relaxer. Nothing stops it.
Thanks Sassy...I still don't know if I am in the safe zone or still screwed either way. Granted, no matter how you look at it, its still a "harsh" chemical which changes the texture of your hair, just the same with color (bleach that is)
it does not leave anything on your brain. it leaves a film on your scalp. this is why people get scab hair when they decide to give up chemicals. no where on NP.com does it say that if affects your brain.

Somebody school me on this.
We use Type (4, 4a, 2 2b, etc) is'nt this the same thing as grade ?

Not exactly.
While I'm not particularly fond of Andre's hair typing system, saying you have a certain hair type is different than saying you have a certain grade. The words have different connotations. Graded hair implies that one hair type is better than another, which isn't cool.
I've alway used a lye relaxer and my scalp never itches badly, my crown hair isn't coarse and it doesn't break off. In fact my crown is one of the healthiest parts of my hair and I definitely don't need a relaxer after 3 weeks. My hair actually is still jet black. And my hair is always bouncy. I think it depends on what type of lye relaxer you use. I use creme of nature mild lye relaxer and never have had any problems.

Oh, ok. Thanks.
Seems like just one of the technical, play on word things..
I DON'T suggest that you grow your hair using NO-LYE relaxers or wear extensions over your hair with a no-lye relaxer in. NO LYE relaxers are very drying and tangle excessively when shampooed. Abba Moisture Scentsation Conditioner and Pink Oil Moisturizer helps maintain hair with no-lye relaxers in. LYE relaxers perform better.
If you want to grow out your NO LYE relaxer and keep length, you must use braid extensions. Each time you take out the braid extensions (after two months) and have new growth, cut the NO LYE relaxed hair off a little at a time.
The reason you may have suffered from LYE relaxers is if you overprocessed your hair, kept it in too long, did not pay attention to strengths, or didnt perm ONLY NEW GROWTH. Do not relax all of your hair...just new growth...
I hope this message was insightful

Pink oil moisturizer is the worst stuff for hair on the earth. It is the only thing that will make hair greasy and hard all at the same time.
Deep condioning, being gentle, and taking it easy on the heat will help hair to growth whether you have lye or no lye.

I agree pink oil moisturizer has never done me any justice I use no-lye and my hair grows quite nicely I just have to keep it moisturized, but I'm thinking of switching to the phytorelaxer.
