LISTERINE=LONGER HAIR?

What are the ingredients in listerine?

Lol I did look like that when I read the title.

The peppermint content in listerine must be very low and the alcohol content high

I wouldn't do this. I have sensitive skin and don't use listerine as a mouthwash because of the ingredients.

Diluted peppermint oil sounds like a better idea

Bad alcohol, no thanks, no way.

I hope it works out for anyone who tries it though!

Who is the feature of the month who did this???? :)

ETA: Nevermind. Found it. Unbelievable! lol

The active ingredients listed on Listerine bottles are menthol, thymol, methyl salicylate, and eucalyptol. Ethanol is present in concentrations of 21.6% in the flavored product and 26.9% in the original gold Listerine Antiseptic. Thymol is an antiseptic, methyl salicylate is cleaning agent, and menthol is local anesthetic. At this concentration, the ethanol serves to dissolve the active ingredients. Contrary to persistent myths, methanol (which is frequently confused with menthol) is not an ingredient.

The peppermint thing was just a thought, the first thing I think of when I think of Listerine is minty fresh (peppermints). Yea Listerine is composed of a whole bunch of alcohol. I'm pretty sure it will burn the scalp.

Someone did this in the past before a relaxer and burned her scalp, if I remember. This is not a good idea.:nono: Just put peppermint in a spray bottle and water if this is what you are looking to do. It's much safer that way.:lachen: There is an old thread about this, somewhere.

Maybe (keep in mind I'm no scientist here) it kills the fungus in the scalp as well as stimulating bloodflow? Sort of like and MN peppermint oil mix? Still, I'd rather not...

:lachen: :lachen: :lachen: LHCF has a looong looong memory hahahaha

Anyway, I've read a few posts on this on the longhairccommunity forum. You might want to do a search there.

I wouldn't do it tho'. Good luck.

Waiting for somebody to bring it up:burning:
:lachen:

i did not want to be the first to post about the thought of using listerine so since y'all are talking about it.......................................................i ain't skurrred! i just tried. i was in the cayenne challenge so i thought this would only be a walk in the park. and as i thought, it was. it is nowhere near cayenne. it just made my hair feel minty fresh:grin:. although i had listerine tartar control and the orange flavor...i'll pick up the original and give it a whirl.....let see how much fire it can stir.

dapper it's not that bad. i think if maybe one has scratched their heads prior to listerine, they may feel the heat, but as far as that....it doesn't burn. and this is coming from your's truely....i can;t put toner on my face b/s that tihs actually burns my face....listerine, nah, not even close.

no seriously, listerine B4/after a relaxer!:lachen: nah, i'd tell a stylist to get back with that tihs! she/he would get hit with a bottle of listerine first.

Do NOT put listerine on your scalp...

For anyone crazy enough to do this, just read the thread that doriannc linked to.

Growing up I knew a girl that used listerine on her scalp because she had horrible dandruff. She had long thick hair. Her scalp would be white. But if I remember right she was probably APL or maybe an inch or so short.
