LHCF's pH Balanced HEALTHY Hair Strands Challenge

i'm using this mix and I love it. It has done some wonders for my used to be bushy ends.

I love Kimmaytube.
Her leave in has transformed my hair in just two weeks.
My hair ends are no longer bushy and my hair is so much easier to detangle.
I am using it as a moisturizer too, as part of the Cathy Howse challenge.

I could join this challenge too.

Maybe you can post where to get pH strips from.

yeah Marhia! i'm gonna try the mix using AOHR & WC 1st! I'm hoping... thinking this may have a lot to do with my hair "sticking together" so much (raised cuticles) after washes & cowashes dry

I didn't cut my hair off for nothing.... This is go hard or go home time! Plus this chemical product play fits much into my area of work:lick:! Looking forward to it!!!

I'd like to do this but I have no idea where to get ph strips. :/ I've been to like 3 pet stores, lol. I would rather just buy them locally but it seems i'll have to get it online (which means it'll take me like 5x longer to obtain it)

see i get confused about ph, because when i test products that are homeade with butters (afroveda, etc) they have a ph of about 6 but they work really well.

Most products are going to have a PH from 4.5-7.0. However for a leave-in it is ideal to use a product with a range from 4.5-5.5.

I have Talijah Waajids Protective Mist Bodifier. The PH is 7.0, it works really well. I added AVJ to it and dropped the PH to 4.5-5.5 it works even better now, especially on my dyed ends that I cant wait to get rid of.

tHeHaIRLab - I know I've never met you but.... I think I love you for this thread & challenge:clap::clap::clap:!

Every since I learned about the pH theory and tried Kimmay's (I love her too) recipe for the leave-in I noticed a difference in the texture of my naturally coily 4a/4b/3c hair. Sometimes, in the past, it would feel nice and other times it was rough - I mean real rough:wallbash:. With the pH balanced leave-in it always felt great. It kinda seems like a lot of work to make a new batch every week but I still do it (I've been doing it for about 3 weeks now).

I bought the universal pH strips online when they were $5 and I got my shipment within a week (not long at all). So I love the pH balanced leave in but didn't know where to go from there.

I recently found a gel that would define my coils (Eco Styler is da truth :dance7:) I tried others but nothing worked for me. Not sure if it is defeating my pH balanced goals or not or even if I'm taking my hair on a rollercoaster ride.

I want pH balanced healthy hair strands too :grin::grin: Count me in! I will add my products later this week. I used Kimmay's leave-in recipe (as I mentioned) but I added more ingredients.

YAY!!!

I'm not going to officially join this challenge, I'll be watching closely from the sidelines- ready to try out some of the great recipes you all come up with.

Mix all in a a bowl and distribute sparingly on the hair. Sit under the steamer for 20 minutes or use with a shower cap for 30 - 45 minutes.

primarily the same concept.... from the natural living forum

SOMEONE ASKED ME THIS AFTER COMMENTS ON THE pH thread....(LOL) the IDEA IS HOPEFULLY FOR YOU LADIES TO ADJUST "YOUR FAVORITE mixes or any adjusted PRODUCTS" TO FALL CLOSER WITHIN AN OPTIMAL pH RANGE.....HOPEFULLY no one will throw out products they love in doing so!!! using aloe vera juice, aloe vera gel, distilled water, oils, acv, lemon,..... checking ph.... no biggie)

this sounds so interesting and my colored ends would definitely appreciate it. are there any ready made ph balanced conditioners and leave in's? i'm the worst at mixing stuff up.

I have aloe vera juice in my kitchen, the kind you drink. i purchased it from Trader Joe's. Is this sufficient? I also have castor oil and grapeseed oil, but I can always purchase jojoba. Would white camelia conditioner be okay to use? I have some of that.
You ladies mix up these four things and use it as a deep conditioner or just a leave in?

Thansk Hairlab.
I've used AO HSR and WC. I don't really see a huge difference. So, my question is, has anyone seen a difference between using Kimmay's home made leave in vs. AO HSR/WC?
My hair is feeling a little rough right now and my ends are even rougher from color that hasn't faded yet.

would it be possible to use aloe vera gel if i don't have the juice

or to leave out the jojoba oil all together (since i dont have that either), and maybe coconut oil (which i do have)

and i was thinking of using the tresemme naturals cone free conditioner instead of knot today (because i have it hahaha)

i know this is trying to change the recipe, but i'm a broke college student and don't really have the money to spend but i do have some of these things on hand

advice?

from my limited knowledge... i don't see the properties of your choice in oils changing the composition of the mix! and many have used aloe vera gel (i however hated it in my previous mixes.... ALWAYS ALWAYS MAKES MY HAIR HARD), I think you should definitely try it if you have it available!

I use different oils, last nite was my 1st go at kimmy's formula, used AOWC... so you definitely can use the conditioner of your choice

your choice (in conditioners) will affect your ending pH though, so adjust as needed, if no strips to measure... I'd just go with the formula

the aloe gel i have is alcohol free, was yours? and how is your hair handling the aloe juice?

well from the ph balance database that someone quoted, the tresseme naturals was posted as a 5 i think

my hair completely... utterly:look: loves the juice!! softens my hair like nobody's business! soothes my scalp! loves it! both of my aloe vera gels (from walmart & vitacost) are alcohol free:yep: BOTH make my hair hard:yep:

i use them in ecostyler gel b/c the idea is to not manipulate after drying
will not repurchase:nono::nono::nono::nono:

all the gels & juices run slightly different in pH as well

well...i'm going to try to mix up my concoction tonight and see what happens. haha.

my transitioning hair has been giving me the worst time. i'm just looking for something to work
