Hi, there! I'm Lola and I'm a hair snob.....*waves at the crowd*
Seriously, I started my hair journey 2 and a half years ago and I started length checking everyone in my head! Then it was ends checking...."chewed up" "fried off", " pulled off"!
I accept it, I will help if I am asked but really, I can only zip my mouth shut and try not to stare hard at times.

I go to a multicultural church and everyone's hair is so pretty. I feel like the ugly, short-hair duckling when I am there. Most of the black women do wear wigs/weaves but their hair underneath is very healthy!

...but when I do see some very damaged hair, I cringe!

OH Angie, I'm qute sure your hair will NEVER make you look like the ugly duckling, come on! your hair (and you) is gorgeous!:notworthy

I don't always associate short hair with unhealthy hair. I have short hair (SL) and its healthy. I have lots of bounce and I get compliments.

I have seen women with long stringy pieces that you can see through and that is unhealthy to me.

I guess I am not really a snob I only pay attention to hair I really like. Everyone else...meh, its their regimen not mine.

I'm a hair snob. I don't give advice unless someone asks for it, because I don't like to waste my time. The funny thing is that sometimes people try and give me tips. I just look at their hair and then I'm like "I'm good".

I was joking with a sister at my church and I said "I wanna do a class on hair care" and she got all excited and said she will be waiting for it. I think I'm gonna try and put something together by this spring because them sistahs at my church need some serious help!

Girl, you ain't never lied. When it's time for offering at my church, it's like a parade of the unhealthiest hair EVER!. I thought about offering a class too, but I want my hair to be on point first (and I'll admit that my hair is NOT on point right now). Hey, did ya'll ever pamper your bangs....even when you had a chewed off nape? I see that all the time.

I cringe when I look at old photos of myself (just 2 years back) where I had the most damaged, dry, bleached out hair. Eeek! I am so happy I found this forum. I also cringe inside when I see women walking around with unhealthy hair (of any race, mind you...) I'm constantly looking to see who needs a trim, who needs some moisture, or a deep condish!

I am "hair aware" as well; I just love looking at other people's hair: healthy and long, short and damaged, long and damaged (yes, it does exist), short and bangin', etc.

Sometime I find myself looking at hair and just staring like...it get's a little creepy. lol.

I agree. I realize not everyone is into taking care of their hair as I and others may be. This thread to me just seem like a bunch of ladies who think they are better than other ladies who don't have healthy hair. :look:

I agree. When I see women with damaged I feel more sad for them and anger at their stylist. It isn't like they wake up and like what they see. I know they see women with nice hair and feel even more inadequate. My hair hasn't look horrible, but even when it was just mediocre and people didn't understand why I wouldn't put it in a nice style ( it was so thick that I just wore buns everyday) it would hurt my feelings. It wasn't like I enjoyed looking bad, my hair became this burden. I literally didn't know what to do plus I was low income. So even if I did I wouldn't have been able to anyway. The issue is serious especially when you consider the history/background surround black women and their hair.
The person that originally stated this opinion was not being rude. However when people started attacking her, she didn't get alittle upset which reflected in her latter posts. :lol:I guess people didn't like the rain on their parade. Just because the majority of you are looking down on women doesn't mean that it's right.

You know... I honestly don't think anybody calling themselves a hair snob or hair aware really feels like they are sitting on this pedestal looking down on all the woeful women with bad hair. I initially read it as a funny way of saying "I know better about hair care and seeing women with bad hair drives me crazy." I don't think people who are truly snobs call themselves snobs. I'm kind of the same way when I see people buying soda at the store. I did a mini-cleanse about a year ago and began to see things SOOO differently after that. I still drink soda sometimes, but anytime I see somebody get a 24 pack of soda I always think to myself, "You might as well be pouring acid on your stomach with all that soda." :nono: Should I care what someone is putting in their shopping cart? Nope. Do I make judgments and assessments of people based on what they have, wear, say, etc.? Yep. I think we all do. It's only human. I do think that there are people who make that FINAL assessment of "I am better than you and you are less than me b/c of X,Y and Z," but I don't think any of those ladies are on here. Just saying....

Also, I was expecting something more judgmental from OP b/c of the title, but surprisingly I didn't get that.

Just my :twocents: Now let's hug it out.:grouphug3:
