I don't think most people were comparing, just making an observation. Not that serious. Carry on.

Sometimes I swear people come in these threads just to start mess....:nono:

yes i agree, i was going to reply but i think everything just went over & around her head.

No sweetie I wasn't saying that to "start mess". Just seems weird that women would call themselves "hair snobs" which is snobs nonetheless. I mean most of them seem like they are nice from other threads. And the girl said she would look at other women and wonder why they didn't take care of their hair (assuming like her). So Im just saying....for the OP and a very few of the other posters they seem nice I just didn't understand why they would say that. Im trying to understand that. Which is what I said. Reading is fundamental :yep:
But like u said.......carry on.

Lol, you know I could say something to you as well.....but I choose to be nice. Im pretty sure its something you don't mind but you make it painfully obvious for others. So....yeah. Carry on....hair snobs, lol!

Attacking me is not going to get you anywhere, nope, its not. And im sure there is nothing that you can say that hasnt already been said about me before. I am sure Tom, Dick, Harry, Junior, Aunt Kathy, & Cousin Jay-jay have said it too.
I am also sure you are trying to prove a point but there is no need to get angry or ignorant. Because once again, that is not going to get you anywhere.
And Weren't you just saying that it was mean to care about other ppls hair? Ok.. so.. Why are you caring about me? & how are you any different to "TRY" and attack others on a hair forum?:ohwell: This is just a hair forum, this is just the internet.
This thread was about observing others hair. OK fine, I get it if you dont like what others have said but you gave your opinion, so you should just move on already & leave this thread alone. Why waste YOUR time, not our time but YOUR time.. Why stay around to pick a fight? There is simply no need. So yes do carry on:yawn:

Seriously??

I mean, just like we'd notice someone with really healthy hair, we'd notice someone on the other end of the spectrum.

Wow, I mean....Im sorry and no offense to anyone but that's like....mean! Why should anyone care how someone else takes care of their hair? The only ppl I know that compare themselves (especially their hair) to others are ones with low self-esteem or something. Hey that is my opinion but dang that's mean.

I agree. I realize not everyone is into taking care of their hair as I and others may be. This thread to me just seem like a bunch of ladies who think they are better than other ladies who don't have healthy hair. :look:

I went to a party last night and that's the first thing I noticed too. I used to would've been jelly of hair SL and longer. Now, it's much more to it. When hair is long (and I use this term loosely) and straggly, I just wanna give them some moisturizer and a wide toothed comb. I have to hold my tongue. It's crazy that after years of not seeing someone the first thing I look at is the condition of their hair.

And don't even get me started on the permed-to-death little kids hair!! :nono:

I like to consider myself 'hair aware' as opposed to being a hair snob:giggle:.

I think I'll borrow this term. I was at meeting with my sister last week and the first thing we notice was that we were one of maybe 3-4 women in a room of about 20 not wearing a weave or wig. The only saving grace was that most of them were older so I gave them a pass.

I have a girl in my class who's relaxed with dry thin hair. Its almost always out, rubbing on her clothes and I'm sure causing her lots of unwanted breakage. Sometimes I have fantasies about clarifying, deep conditioning and moisturizing and sealing her hair.:lachen:. I don't know why, but every time I see dry damaged hair this nurturing part of me comes out. Maybe I have a future as being a hairstylist...

I catch myself daydreaming about slapping some conditioner in someones hair when I sit behind someone with painfully obvious wrecked hair. Especially on my relaxed sisters.

Come on...
It's not that serious :blowkiss:

No need for reaching

I'm definitely more hair aware!

I don't think I 'm any better than those with damaged EL hair though. Hair is important to me and makes me happy. Chances are they put their energy into something more important to them (exercise, dieting, kids, work, their business etc)

I know EXACTLY how you feel! I'm a middle school teacher in a low-income community and it saddens me every day to see these young girls have completely ruined their hairline because of poor hair practices. My students are amazed at the versatility and length of my natural hair. I really wanted to start a Healthy Hair Club after-school hahaha

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share the knowledge with an audience that wants to hear it. Ignorance is bliss and I am surrounded by serial weavers with edges that can rival Naomi. Though I feel for them I do not bring up hair until they do. Some chick has even been so ignorant as to tell me, "oh well your LIGHTSKIN and your hair just growns that way." Ummmmmm..:nono::sad::perplexed :blush:I have had one young lady take my advice and run with it. I told her she was too fly to walk around with chopped up hair and she is now past shoulder length. She sees my stylist and chopped it off to start over and she doesn't perm. As long as I reached one I am cool..
As I sit here with a head full of henna on the LHCF I am reminded that IGNORANCE IS BLISS to some and they have to embrace their dissatisfaction at their own time. #youcanleadthemtowater...

I think you should do it...Tactfully. You'd be surprised what we invest in when we get tired of looking tragic!

Being a FL girl, yes please do something lol. People here have no clue-it's always a hot mess!

I like Hair Aware...that's a cute saying. I have to go through this with my sister all the time. Asks me all the time what to do, but when it comes down to doing it oh I forgot or I'm just too lazy(her words lol). Well having 6 of your 8 kids at home is exhausting. I just wish she would do something with her daughters hair(all 4 of them).

I'm a hair snob, too. But, I don't give advice unless asked. I don't mind being the only one in the room with "good hair." (I'm 4a.) :giggle:

I didn't think that could be possible

Me either but I learnt to save my breath. Even women who run me down for advice and products, after I take time to work out a regimen complete with products, I see them a few weeks later and they back in braids or weave, talking bout they don't like the length of their hair or it's too much work or some other excuse. Any questions I get now I just say, keep it moist. Moisture is key and that is IT.

:yep: I agree with you Honey A.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

Healthy Hair growing is just as much about changing mental attitudes as it is about using good products and eating healthily. We've all been there and have to change some otherwise concrete methods and manage damaged hair.

I've tried to help friends and family members until I'm blue in the face. All they do is object every suggestion I make but that still does not stop me from trying
In situations like this, actions speak louder than words. I've converted a heat addicted friend to embracing her curls and minimising heat just by showing her how good curly 3c/4a hair looks without heat. Keep doing what you're doing and sooner or later those who want to change will follow suit.

I really thought i was the only one that thought this. This forum has given me so much valuable information that sometimes i see young ladies with hair in terrible condition and i just want to help them and grab them and tell them to come to this forum or i will be more than happy to share what i have learned. Sometimes when i go to the salon and see young ladies come in and their hair is so damaged and they insist on getting a touch up..OMG..i wanna tell them thats not the answer, dont do it, get ur hair in shape first, etc. I had a beautician i used to go to and i used to mention products and regimen recommendations from this site and she would brush the info off. There is no place like this forum that i have seen so many women of color with such healthly long hair, hair in some cases that reach their mid-back and beyond. I am inspired and acheived more length now at 46 yrs old than i had when i was in H.S. I have spread the word about this site to my friends and they love it. I just wish more young ladies would take the time and learn more about their hair and the proper ways to take care of it.

Too funny but so true. I think the same way when around a woman that I know could benefit from knowing how to properly paper her hair. When I first started out on LHCF I was learning so much that I wanted to share it with the world. I would approach women in the supermarket and start explaining to them what I thought would help them....I quickly learned to keep my lip zipped. :shopping: :hardslap:

I was in church this morning and I saw my little friend (3.5 years). I just wanted to take her home, wash her hair, mix up some shea butter leave-in, and put some braids in the baby's hair. Literally, she has not retained an inch of hair in two years! She was sitting between her two aunts who were wearing two of the worst wigs I've ever seen. Not a single woman in that family has any hair!

What is upsetting is that her grandmother (RIP) and her aunts' mom was a licensed cosmetologist and didn't know any better than to keep dying and relaxing her hair even though you could see clean through to her scalp. My mom used to tell me I was wrong because every time I looked at their hair (once again not a single one of them have any) I said I would NEVER allow their mom within ten feet of my hair with any styling tool or product--and this was before the start of my HHJ!

The upside is that they are some of the nicest people you ever wanted to meet. The baby girl is my little friend!

I agree. When I see women with damaged I feel more sad for them and anger at their stylist. It isn't like they wake up and like what they see. I know they see women with nice hair and feel even more inadequate. My hair hasn't look horrible, but even when it was just mediocre and people didn't understand why I wouldn't put it in a nice style ( it was so thick that I just wore buns everyday) it would hurt my feelings. It wasn't like I enjoyed looking bad, my hair became this burden. I literally didn't know what to do plus I was low income. So even if I did I wouldn't have been able to anyway. The issue is serious especially when you consider the history/background surround black women and their hair.
The person that originally stated this opinion was not being rude. However when people started attacking her, she didn't get alittle upset which reflected in her latter posts. :lol:I guess people didn't like the rain on their parade. Just because the majority of you are looking down on women doesn't mean that it's right.

I don't think those who have become "hair snobs" or "hair aware" walk around thinking that they are better, I think its sort of the same as when we see a bad child acting up in the grocery store and the parent(s) seem to not know how to properly handle the situation. We pass with our shopping carts thinking, tisk, tisk, If that was my kid, I'd.....

I go to a multicultural church and everyone's hair is so pretty. I feel like the ugly, short-hair duckling when I am there. Most of the black women do wear wigs/weaves but their hair underneath is very healthy!

...but when I do see some very damaged hair, I cringe!
