How did you get through the in between stage? It seems that now I've learned how to take care of my hair the right way it's taking a long time to grow. Before I took the time for my hair it grew really fast, but it was damaged. I just need a little encouragement.

I know I'll get there some day!

I'm a woman that has experimented with many a style, that sometimes I forget that there was an "in-between" phase. I would wear braids, cornrow my own hair and sport a wig, do ponytails and falls.... how's that for a start?

i feel for you, jellynote! i wore braids for most of the in between time. i liked it because while i wore them, i really didn't think about my hair much at all. otherwise it's kind of like watching paint dry...

Oh it was a pain in the neck! My pictures show my displeasure at the thought of doing it everyday because it was too short, but too long to do nothing to it. I'm just glad I got through it.

Sometimes my hair looked jacked up, but during this time the headband became my quick friend. I would whip that on, and curl the back some into some semblance of a style. I just did that and waited impatiently for the hair to hurry up so I could get enough hair to squeeze into a ponytail.

Sorry, no good stories from me!

Falls are those partial wigs, where you can let the front of your hairline be exposed. If you want, you can try Sensationnel's Quickweave. They have a lot of cute styles. There's this cute style that I used to wear. I used to get a lot of compliments on it, especially the color.... light brown with golden blond highlights... great for summer!!!

As a flight attendant, the air in the airplane was so dry that I'd lube my hair real good, put it in cornrows and put on a wig cap and then plop this on top. My hairline was out and I'd smooth it down with a narrow headband. This piece is shorter than my hair and is a shake and go thing. No combing!

Re: Ladies with shoulder length and longer

When I went from the old Halle Berry cut, I just remember waiting form my hair to be long enough to catch in a nylon band and then wore a fake pony tail until my hair grew longer than the ponytail.. I can be monotonous like that... I'll sport the same hair style for months and just forget about it, which is probably why Im having no problem with this bun challenge---just yet anyways. Just try to focus on other things. The time will pass before you know it.

Re: Ladies with shoulder length and longer

Phonytails helped me a lot.

I bought mine from Sally's Beauty Supply for @ $9.

Oh, yes how I remember those days...they weren't that long ago.

Here's a little timeline of my hair journey thus far:

July 2001: Thought I was Halle Berry and cut off my shoulder length hair.

Sept. 2001 found out I was pregnant again with baby no. 3 (baby no. 2 was only 6 months old!!!) I was wearing my hair with a head band, kinda wash and wear.

Nov. 2001 got a weave, kept it for two months and then attempted to take it out myself cutting out my own hair in with the weave to just to get the @#$%$^^%^ thing out.

Feb. 2002 I got braids. I was quite large at this point and didn't want to deal with my hair, or lack thereof.

April 2002 took the braids out and relaxed. Yay!!! I looked human again, according to my brother in law. My hair was about neck length and I was so happy!!! I could make a very tiny pony tail. I bought the drawstring and used that sucker to death!!! My edges suffered big time.

May 2002 had baby...continued on with the drawstring...I really didn't relax my hair much during these day. I was at home with the kids, didn't really have many to impress and I was looking straight busted. However this gave my hair the chance to really grow unhindered, so to speak.

Dec. 2002 I didn't perm again till just before Christmas. I remember at New Year's everybody was gushing about how my hair was growing back. My friend who hadn't seen me in a while asked me if it was a weave.

All the attention my hair received led me to research on the net. This is the part where I find LHCF. Here I am now just 3 inches away from BRA STRAP!!!

This is my long winded way of saying don't lose heart, stick your regime and try not to obsess. You will get there, you'll see...:)

Re: Ladies with shoulder length and longer

I've thoght about a weave, but can't find anyone over that does a good 1 so cornrows or wigs are my only choices right now. I'm wearing my hair in ponytails and phonytails a lot nowadays. I know my hair will grow, but I just hate this in between stage.

When my hair was above the shoulders, that was the hardest time for me. But if I remember correctly, I left my hair alone. I always kept it simple. This prevented me from doing something stupid that could've possibly set me back. I think I just wore my hair either in ponytails or wore it out or wore curls (this is generally when I came straight from the hairdresser). I didn't do any protective styling, but I always kept my hair moisturzied, so I never had a problem with breakage.

A few months later, my hair was past my shoulders again.

Just be patient and don't be strenuous on your hair. Wear loose styles.

Re: Ladies with shoulder length and longer

My hair went from 16 inches to 23 inches in one year when I learned how to properly care for it. I just stopped obsessing over the growth. I looked up one day and noticed my hair was getting longer and longer. I only measure my hair every 6 months. Like Honeylemondrop said "just forget about it."
