Ladies can I coat my strands with an acidifying rinse or conditioner

before going to the salon next week for my relaxer? I have asked that the stylist use the complete Affirm fiberguard lye set in normal. I plan on basing my scalp well before going but wondered about what to protect my hair with. Will an acidifying rinse/conditioner interfere with the relaxer processing in any way? I am going from a texturizer, that is both over and under processed, to bone straight relaxed hair.

Any advice/suggestions is greatly appreciated.

IDK, it might make some kind of weird reaction with the relaxer.

Relaxers are alkaline and need to be to work. If you do an acid rinse, methinks you might "dilute" the relaxer by neutralizing it and thus make it less effective. I know hair is slightly acidic in its natural state, so one might argue that a rinse will just be keeping hair in its natural state. In which case, what's the point if it won't make a difference? Acids close your hair cuticle, but you need it to open up for a chemical reaction to happen inside the strand so that there'd be a change in the texture. So why would you aim to close the cuticle which in a few minutes needs to be opened up for the chemical processing to work?

I wouldn't do it.

An acidfying conditioner will probably make you underprocessed since the pH of it is so low. Hair cannot be relaxed if it doesn't reach a high enough pH.

Make sure the stylist uses the profectiv protectant that comes with the system to proctect the hair that you don't want processed by the relaxer.

I don't think it should matter. Dry hair has no acidity. The relaxer might take longer to process since your cuticle is 'shut' but it's the relaxers job to open it up!

Only aqueous solutions have a pH.

pH is the measure of H+ and OH+ concentrations of a solution.

Yes, Preservo is the second step in the system and is applied to the dry hair before the relaxer cream.

. I am calling to confirm my appt. tomorrow and ask again that she use the complete Affirm fiberguard lye-normal system. I looked for the protecto in the bss here in town but they only sold the keracare line. I was able to find the Summitt sensitive scalp base to base my scalp but they didn't have the protecto creme.
