"Kitchen" Issues..

Re: "Kitchen" Issues..

OnePraying,
you could try basting the area that you do not want to relax with vaseline or any grease that is rich in petroleum/mineral oil, that will protect the area from the relaxer. If the length of that area is long enough secure it in a ponytail band/tie, to protect the area. This will keep penetration of the hair shaft in the areas you do not wish to relax to an absolute minimum.

When an area is over-processed try washing the area with the neutralising shampoo and leave it on your hair 10-15 mins longer than recommended, rinse and then do this again (3 x in total after initial neutralisation), this cancels out the relaxer and makes the hair stronger. Then deep condition preferably including a hot oil treatment to soften the hair.

Re: "Kitchen" Issues..

I'm going to try the S-Curl as lunalight mentioned. That area of my hair never grows; it's always beedeebee's back there. My hair length is right at my shoulders. I dare not wear a bun because I can't tame those naps back there.

How long do you think it would take to see the results from using S-Curl every night?

Re: "Kitchen" Issues..

For me, my kitchen grew when I went natural. Now that I have a perm again, my kitchen is my weak spot.

Re: "Kitchen" Issues..

To OnePraying,
Thank you so much for starting this thread. You asked the question and so many wonderful ladies chimed in with such loving and helpful advice. I am new to the boards and I feel so encouraged and hopeful, like never before. I just trimmed my damaged kitchen. I put some humectress conditioner on it directly like a hairdressing and that seemed to work quite well. I'm also surging. Next, I guess I'll have to try that S-Curl idea--sounds promising.
Good luck to you,
Hopeful

Re: "Kitchen" Issues..

Hopeful you gave me a great idea. I have my Surge sitting in the closet so I might as well use it on my nape area. I too cut mine off recently and also evened my hair out into a bob.

I'm hoping that it will grow out nicely since I'm starting from scratch.

Re: "Kitchen" Issues..

bocagirl,
Good luck with the surge. I went out and bought the s-curl this evening, tried it right away and it was like magic. My kitchen felt much softer and almost immediately, even looked fuller.

Re: "Kitchen" Issues..

I used to have problems w. my nape being only being an inch long and never being able to grow (I guess because of breakage). :ohwell:

Now, thank God, I don't have that problem any more. I noticed the other day how long my nape has gotten and was quite impressed! I wear low buns practically every day (twisting the hair around itself to form a bun usually). I still do relax my nape...the only thing I'm doing differently now is stretching my relaxer. Also, I don't use any heat. I think my hair has just gotten stronger...I'm just happy it's now growing even though I'm still relaxing it.:)

Re: "Kitchen" Issues..

I was always wondering why my nape wasn't doing so well and it was because it was overprocessed. I'm in braids and I found that those really helps to gain length in that area. I'm also using S curl now and will continue to use it after the braids- at least in the nape area.

Re: "Kitchen" Issues..

My kitchen has never been longer. I noticed this a few months after I started transitioning. I've been using more S-curl moisturizer/gel and more Surge too so that may have also helped my hair grow. And I CO wash everyday which contributed to me having alot more grow overall.
