....should know how to cook?

If so, what is it?

I fall into the "soon to be married" (not engaged yet, but...) category. So, help a sista' out. Is there one staple, knock out, just in case dish that every woman should be able to pull off?

What do you ladies think?
Name one dish and one dessert.
Let's hear from everyone on this one.

Right now my "should know how" dish is a roast. I don't even eat red meat, but it's still good to know.

I would say the dish that your man likes the most ideally...............

can't say every married woman should know how to make a slammin jammin out of this world cheesecake that will have your man bowing at your feet.................

if he's lactose intolerant

:)

A basic roast chicken.

Though I would say that for singles too. 1st night, it's roast chicken with whatever side. Next day, you can have the meat on a sandwich or over a green salad. Next night, some variety of chicken soup.

Of course, if you or he is a vegetarian.... It's like Tiara said.:look:

Agree on knowing how to prepare his favorite dish and dessert and basically you should just have whole list of dishes he likes to eat and what he absolutely hates. All men are different but I think it's safe to say most would like variety.

That's definately a thing that has to cater to your man because every man doesn't eat the same.

I had a man fall in love with me over my Gumbo. He literally fell in love and chased me for months after he had it. Unbeknownst to me, soups were his favorite type of meal.

So definately get to know your man's preference and master that.

Thanks ladies.

He likes fish. I think fish is boring, but.... I brought some recipe books to switch up my fish tactics.

Roasted chicken is a good one. Can't go wrong with that.

I agree with everyone else, find out what he likes to eat, and do the thing in the kitchen. I do know that I make some slamming hot wings! I made them for a party and so many dudes were like "Who made the wangs?:lick:" It was cute.

Engagement chicken
Serves 2 to 3

1 whole chicken (approx. 3 lb.)
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
Kosher or sea salt
Ground black pepper
2 lemons, plus 1 for garnish
Fresh herbs for garnish

Place rack in upper third of oven and preheat to 400°F. Remove giblets, wash chicken inside and out with cold water, then let it drain, cavity down, in a colander until it reaches room temperature (about 15 minutes). Pat dry with paper towels. Pour lemon juice all over the chicken (inside and outside). Season with salt and pepper. Prick two whole lemons three times with a fork and place deep inside the cavity. (Tip: If lemons are hard, roll on countertop with your palm to get juices flowing.) Place bird breast-side down on a rack in a roasting pan, lower heat to 350°F and bake uncovered for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and turn it breast-side up (use wooden spoons!); return it to oven for 35 minutes more. Test for doneness--a meat thermometer inserted in the thigh should read 180°F, or juices should run clear when chicken is pricked with a fork. Continue baking if necessary. Let chicken cool for a few minutes before carving. Serve with juices. Garnish with fresh herbs and lemon.

Man-loaf meatloaf
Serves 6

1 tbsp. olive oil, plus olive oil spray
1/2 medium yellow onion, diced
1 garlic clove, minced
1 bay leaf
1 medium red pepper, finely diced (about 1 cup)
2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
2 tbsp. chopped fresh thyme
2 lbs. lean ground beef
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
1 cup ketchup
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, spray with oil. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions, garlic and bay leaf until onions are tender (3 minutes). Add red pepper and cook until tender (5 minutes). Stir in parsley and thyme; cook for 2 minutes. Remove pan from heat; let cool. Discard bay leaf. In a large bowl, combine beef, eggs, bread crumbs, 1/2 cup of the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and cooled veggies. Mix with your hands. Transfer the mixture to a baking sheet and form into a loaf. Coat it with the remaining 1/2 cup ketchup. Bake for 60 to 90 minutes, or until firm. Let set for 5 minutes before slicing.

Maggiano’s Tiramisu

6 tbsp/ 3tbsp Granulated Sugar
4 Whole Eggs, Separated
6 oz. Cream Cheese, softened
16 oz. Mascarpone Cheese
1 tbsp. Vanilla Extract
2 tbsp. Marsala wine
6 oz. Heavy Whipping Cream, whipped to stiff peaks
32 Ladyfinger cookies
3 cups Espresso
4 oz. dark coffee liqueur
4 tbsp. sugar
¼ cup Cocoa Powder

Tiramisu Filling:

Using an electric mixer in a large 4-5 quart bowl, whip egg yolks with 6 tbsp. of granulated sugar until pale yellow and thick. In a second bowl, mix cream cheese with vanilla extract and Marsala wine until smooth and free of visible lumps. Then add the mascarpone cheese and mix until incorporated. Next, add the egg mixture, blend and reserve for filling.

In a third bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Add 3 tbsp. of sugar and beat until firm peaks form. Add egg whites to egg and cheese mixture slowly until incorporated. Fold (already whipped) whipping cream into the mixture.

Ladyfingers:

Mix room temperature espresso, 4tbsp. sugar and dark coffee liqueur in a bowl. For each layer, you will need to gently dip (7-8 seconds) the ladyfingers into the mixture and place directly into the pan. In a 10”x10”x3” pan, place first layer of dipped ladyfingers in the pan. (2 rows of 8 cookies)

Add half of the filling on top of the ladyfingers and spread evenly. Next, add second layer of ladyfingers on top of the filling in the opposite direction of the first layer. Cover with remaining filling and refrigerate for at least 6 hours. Using a shaker, dust cocoa powder over top of the entire Tiramisu.

GET YO' MAN CHICKEN

Ingredients
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 6 chicken thighs, skinless
• 1 teaspoons salt
• 1/2 teaspoons pepper
• 1 medium onion, sliced
• 1 cup chicken stock
• 1/2 cup white wine
• 1 (14.5-ounce) can crushed tomatoes in thick puree
• 1 teaspoon dried thyme
• 1/2 tablespoon dried rosemary
• 1 tablespoon lemon-pepper
• Hot buttered rice
• 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves

Directions

Heat the oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat.
Pat chicken dry with a paper towel and season with salt and pepper. Brown the chicken, meat-side down first, and turning once, about 4 minutes on each side. Transfer to a plate to reserve.

Pour off all but 1 tablespoon of oil from the pan.

Add onion to the pan and saute until tender, roughly 3 minutes. Add the stock and wine and stir, scrapping any brown bits off the bottom of the pan. Turn heat to high and reduce by half, about 3 minutes. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the dried herbs and lemon pepper. Add the chicken thighs back into the pan.Cover and cook on medium-low heat for 40 minutes.

Remove chicken from liquid and serve on hot buttered rice. Ladle the sauce on top and garnish with fresh chopped parsley.
