Is there anything specifically good about the Denman Brush?

I got it a few months ago after reading all the rave reviews here and elsewhere since I began transitioning.....I'm still transitioning...right now, I don't like the denman and I don't use it...I've used a natural boars bristle brush for years on my relaxed hair.... it slided across my hair - barely touching the scalp....sometimes I've used a plastic paddle brush (with the little balls on the tip) I like the way the paddle felt as it massaged against my scalp with the relaxed hair...I wouldn't use the paddle brush now, especially not with all this new growth...

but I tried the denman during my early months of transitioning, and I didn't like it...it was rough on my scalp, unlike the paddle brush, and it felt like it was ripping my hair out unlike the boars bristle brush which glided across my hair and smoothed it out...but I still have it and I will keep it...maybe a year from now, when I'm fully natural I will like it...right now I mainly use a wide tooth comb to detangle and maybe the boars bristle.....

however once I did straighten my hair and used the denman to wrap it...but I still preferred the plastic paddle brush better..it was softer against the scalp

I used to wonder what the hype was all about until my hairstylist started using it on me. That thing is the TRUTH! It detangled beautifully without pulling any hair out, and that was at 10 weeks post. She also uses it for blowdrying, and my hair looks great (and straight) afterwards.

oh my gosh your hair is gorgeous. how did you get your hair like that? what is your hair type? what is your length straightened?

Thank you so much. I just used water and moisturizer along with the denman brush to do the BC. Um, the pic in my avatar is after the BC and I just put a scarf around my head and pushed it back a bit. The denman brush helps define curls, I guess that i was what made mine pop. I believe my hair is 4a with a dash of 3c. I haven't straigtened my hair as yet since the BC, but I pulled a piece by my ear and its past collar bone in the front and the same piece is past my shoulder in the back. A piece in back is almost to the end of my shoulder blade.

Hope that helped. i Have some pics in my thread "New Year...New Doo"

I've got a D4 that is great for detangling new growth. I do have to be gentle when running it through the length of my hair though. When I was natural, the only way I could smooth down my hair for a bun was the D4.

I have the paddle brush but I have only had success using it for wrapping my hair. I think I've got too much hair for regular use.

I've never tried the Goody rip off, but I don't think there's that big a difference in price. I got my D4 for $8 on sale @ Sally's.
