Or is it for anyone who wants to nurse their hair back to health or start a healthy hair journey? What do you think?

Joining a hair board is not for addicts. Staying on the hair board 24/7 might be though. ;)

I think more people aren't on hair forums sometimes b/c they just don't know they're out here. And some people simply have NO patience to even try to learn a new tip or two to help their hair.

I was talking to a girl on msn about this board and encouraged her to join, then she asked some more tips and let's just say I only got to the part where sulfates in shampoos are bad for you and she was already tired of listening to me:blush:.

It for almost anyone. There are others boards outside of the hair board were a lot of non hair addicts hang out.

I Joined Strictly to become a DIY'er after a Salon Disaster and My Decision to For Once, take Control Over My Own Hair Health (and no longer leave that up to Stylists, Salons etc...).

So Hair Addict....No:nono:

But Someone on a Quest for Learning how to Grow and Maintain Healthy Hair themselves with the Support, tips, Guidance of Other Like-Minded Individuals....Yeah....:yep:

Once does not have to be an addict to learn from the boards. I was not a hair addict when I got here.

No, not at all. I wasn't an addict when I joined the board nor am I now. I think it's great for anyone who needs a little help or is curious about different products and methods.

Oh yeah, I learned EARLY in the game that hair talk is not for most outsiders. They will beg you to know the truth or the secret and once you open up to tell them you get the,

  • "Girl, that is to much." OR
  • "Oh, okay. Maybe I will try that one day." OR
  • "You mean I can't use heat every other day, please." OR
  • "I am not doing that." OR
  • you see the glazed over eyes and know they are not listening, understanding, or following you anymore.

No, I seriously doubt that everyone who joins a hair board qualifies as a "hair addict". I don't even think you necessarily have to be an enthusiast either. It really depends on the intentions of the joiner, in my opinion, in addition to what is expected from the experience. Unless the joiner is a troll, there obviously has to be a level of interest in hair/hair care above what is considered the norm to seek out information exchange on something rarely revered by the average person as much as it is here...it's called special interest. But addiction is a pathology and that's not everyone nor the majority.

That's pretty much the reaction I got and it's the second time it's happened to me, all they're interested in is: what products are you using? The only people who really listened to me are my two sisters.

Ok now another question just popped into my mind: what about people like Macherieamour who want to open healthy hair salons, what will the response to that be? Do you think people will be more eager to listen because in the end someone will be doing it for them?

No, I believe the later, I also believe that a lot of us have no one to talk to IRL, like I mentioned in another thread I started. It's nice to talk with common minded people.

I think so... at least the people who don't want to do the leg-work themselves or are just used to having someone else take care of their hair. It seems most people I know IRL would prefer to do that- we're the exceptions.

btw, did I tell you I love your screen-name? one of my favorite fruits. :)

If a salon opened in my neighborhood that knew how to do relaxed AND natural hair, knew how to do dustings, trims, BKT's, use heat protectant and was about hair HEALTH more than style I'd be ALL over it!

Uhhhh, maybe!!!

Hello, my name is FNP and I am a hair junkie
I joined back in 2005/2006 and my DH would get soooooo mad because I was always on the board. It's not that I'm hooked, there's just SOOOOOOOO much to look at, and it changes by the minute!
Now I'mm sitting in a casino sportsbook, watching footballl and grazing with my mini thru the board. He's looking at me funny again!!!!:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

I think it turns you into a hair addict.
Totally agree!
I started here when i turn natural because i dint know how to take care of my hair in its natural state. But 2 month after that i started my blog and now i have my own board, facebook fan page (everything in spanish) and i paying my own domain. So yes, i turned into a hair addict

Joining a hair board is for people who are brave enough to recognize they have a hair problem and need help. People who want to interact with other people with the same problems. So, No, I don't think joining a hair board is only for hair addicts. I am certainly not a hair addict, I am just passionate :)

Joining? Nope but...
This board gives us gifts and jewels that are hard to get elsewhere. Much like Vannessa Bryant we have a hard time walking away.

Both!

I was a (HEALTHY) hair addict LOOOOOONG before this board!!! I was a master stylist for years and was looking for a way to "stay in touch and help other ladies" after I left the field.

I get that look from my DH. :lachen:

ETA: This is Kinda off topic, but the other day I bought a bottle of Aspirin and my DH asked, "Is that for pain or for your hair?":lachen: He was dead serious when he asked! And my response was, "No, its for my face":lachen: No further questions!

So thats what the boards do, they make you do things:grin:

-that has happened to me a couple times; Now, I don't even bother; It annoys me too much; I gave a friend of mine this website to read up and she said it was "too much stuff to dig through". I wish someone had given me this website a long time ago!:wallbash:

Very funny, and I totally agree with bolded. But I must say, I am an addict and I think I'm MILD compared to people on this board. Sometimes I'm like, WOW, they're doing all that!! Jeez!:drunk::drunk::drunk: But in my friend group (non-hair board girls with lovely, healthy, long hair) they think I'm a complete nut, and make fun of my hair board interest daily. I mean I get played yall....but I stick up for us!! LOL
