Is It Possible for African American hair and white....

They typically do grow at the same rate. Generally speaking, hair is hair and grows at a rate of 1/4 - 1/2 inch per month. Although it seems as though "white" hair grows faster thann A/A hair, there are lots of extenuating circumstances to consider when comparing the two.

Of course it is. Some people have slower growing hair, some faster, but everything I've read says the average is about half an inch per month. If you look at the threads we've had with polls on average growth per year you'll see it's the same for us.

I think if AA's don't keep the ends tight (moisture, no split ends) then it breaks off and looks like our hair isn't growing.

This isn't really an answer to your question just an observation:

I am no expert but it seems that the A. Am. ladies hair here, grow faster than the White ladies at LHC...

I don't know why

I know that my hair grows way faster than my white sister-in-law's hair. She's had butt lenght hair but since she cut it to about an inch, it's really struggling to grown.

I think AA and Caucasians tend to grow at the same rate. ITA with Jasmin, alot depends on how you take care of those ends. There are alot of bsl, wsl, classic, thigh and even calf length over there. I also noticed that although they share product reviews etc they dont tend to have popular product bandwagons or very much product bashing or making products or ppl feel inferior about their choices. However, dont get me wrong they have had some threads close esp when talking about techniques. But over all, they tend to be cordial and will answer any ques that you may have. It's very unusual to see a ques posted with no replies over there. just my 2 cents. Have a nice weekend. :)

I'm confused about what this has to do with the question asked ???

i duno, but my hair grows a inch and i know a chick whos white and her hair grows around 1/4 per month...she also does her own weaves but her hair just breaks off or doesn't grow at all, she hasn't had roots for months.. I have one friend (white) who's hair grows around 2 inches a month...getting her roots done every 2 weeks, and her diet is rubbish.

and at LHC they were shocked my hair grew an inch per month and they couldn't even tell i was black...so i dont think its a black/white thing. its genetic and with the aids of vits and care etc we can always grow more, and so can they! If u ask me, asians hair grows quicker than anybodys!

I don't know the answer to your question. I do know that I frequent a white salon (white stylist and 90% of their clientele is white, 5% hispanic and 5% black). My stylist has commented each time that I go that my hair grows really fast compared to his other clients. My mother -- also African American -- also goes to my stylist when she is in town visiting and he thinks she has very fast growing hair too. He touches up her gray hair and it has to be done every 30 days without fail.

So, I guess, in my opinion the need to cover gray and get touch ups for perms/relaxers is the "proof" that African American hair is growing. The reaction of my stylist is further "proof" that the growth is comparable.
