I go through cycles with the things I do for my hair. I actually used to use this on a regular basis 10-15 years ago, (red henna not the indigo) but stopped for some reason. I dont recall having as much mess as I do now. I definitely like the henna results. I sent an online pic of my twists to a friend. She said they were pretty but that I used too much grease. I had to explain that wasnt grease, that was henna bling!! (and a lil help from the camera flash) So I dont consider it a fad, but I there is no telling how long I will continue to do things, especially if I get lazy.

I have one of those! People come across it in my album and ask me what kind of grease I use. I don't even have vaseline in my house, much less hair grease. :nono:

ETA:It does look kinda nasty. :ohwell:

Hi Kinikakes! I have a "dream" home and I use the gel mix when I henna and when I indigo I use CMC with it. I have NO mess!

To learn more about it visit, Mehandi.com.

January noir how does the gel mix work ?

I will continue to use Henna for as long as I can stand it...the shine ALONE is enough for me to keep using it...in addition to that the color and strength is second to none and will eliminate the need for some products I use (money-saver). I havent had a problem with mess at all. I just use my gloves glob it on and thats it, havent messed up the bathroom yet.

Hi princesslocks!
You mix either pectin or CMC (CMC is the stuff that makes salad dressing thicker) into you henna or indigo and prevents it from splattering and smattering when you are applying it to your hair. The fruit pectin makes the henna a consistency of haircolor gels and makes it easier to smooth into the hair.

Hi Lucia,

Neither items effect the results of henna or indigo.

Pectin is purchased from any grocery store in the jellie and jams section (it used to make jelly) and it very inexpensive. You can even buy it at Walmart.

I purchased my CMC (the first time I ever heard of it) from the Mehandi.com site's Indigo page. It's at the bottom of the page.

As long as I have access to henna, I never plan or want to stop using it. The benefits have been so great, I don't think I could. I don't want to chance going through the withdrawal.:swearing:

I think I just did. :(

Henna Head fo Life :) at first I thought it would be time consuming and messy, but I've got it down to a science now. I mix a big batch (henna, almal or cassia) with just water, divide up mixture & place in ziplock bags, freeze. When I'm ready to use, thaw out the bags (takes about 20 min), mix in oils and condish. Application only takes me less than 10 min.

It's realy improved the condition of my hair and I just love it.:p

Love Henna, used it twice, however what I hate about it is that it washes out after each shampoo, I thought once it was in, that's it. I'll only use Henna to cover grays but it's not something I'll use for its conditioning properties.

Henna is supposed to be permanent. I've washed my hair a few times since I used henna and the color is the same, grays still covered too. How is it that henna has washed out of your hair at all? Did you use body art quality henna?

I don't know but I bought my henna from Mehandi.com and got the henna wrapped in the silver packetr - which I believe is body art henna -- however after every wash i see red stains. I've also ruined a shirt because of this.

Can't wait until I am out of this weave so I can use this method!!

I love hearing about all the great success everyone is having with it. My only concern is about my new porcelin bath and kitchen fixtures. My DH will kill me if I stain them.

I haven't had any trouble with it staining the porcelain, but it has stained the caulk around the sink.

Try filling the sink w/ water and dunking your head in. Kinda swish it around. Apply a cheapie conditioner, finger comb it through, then dunk again. I used to have a problem w/ henna bleeding, staining and makin' my head stink. :perplexed I've learned to use conditoner to help me get it all out.

Hennahead for LIFE!!! Esp. since I'm starting to actually be able to SEE the reddish highlights in my hair! Henna may be the only thing that keeps me away from the chemical dyes....

The henna color is permanent in your hair. The red stains after your washes only mean it was never totally rinsed out.

I agree with Sareca and her method of rinsing well with conditioner. I didn't use a sink but I kept rinsing and rinsing until it was out. :)

I love henna but not the mess. I'll probably stick to using black rinses and folowing them up with clear henna.

I think that I will be a henna for life lady. I do not use it all the time, but I think that it is how you use it and care for it after that will determine how you feel about it. It certainly helps with thickening and strengthening. Also the quality of the henna is so important in re: to the feel and texture of the hair afterward. I plan to use it at least once every 3 months. I had taken a break for about 2 years because I needed to learn more about my hair and what it needed more, without henna, plus I wanted to try the Bigen and go Oriental black. Now I want a change again. bonjourHTH

I voted on the fence and I don't want anyone's hair to fall out. I want to try it. But I have hair that is really prone to dryness and I have heard henna can make your hair very dry and I don't want any color in my hair. But I really want that bling and my hair needs strength. I do plan on trying henna one day when I start getting grays. Because I don't want to use any dyes.

For those with problems with it being messy or not rinsing out well, I don't have either of these problems using plain yogurt.

Most of my mix is yogurt, about 12 oz of it. I use 1 oz hot water and oil, too. With the yogurt it rinses/shampoos out well, and I get NO dripping and it does not get all over the place.
