I picked the on the fence option (even thought I don't want anyone's hair to fall out).

Maybe I'm a bandwagon breaker or something, but a lot of times when I jump on something from the board that's new to me, as soon as I get on everyone else get's off, or I get a setback from it. I know everyone's hair is different, but I think henna would harm my hair more than it would help it.

Also, most of the ladies on the board who are having the most success with henna are relaxed, and of the few people with transitioning or natural hair, they had more problems with henna at some point.

And we do that round here. We get on stuff it stays hot for weeks then 3/4 of us jump ship. I think it's smart to be cautious. Like Vixxen I do a lot of research, but I am a bit of a risk taker (or early adapter as it's called) and new stuff is what makes like fun for me. Call me crazy.

Kinicakes and others...Henna doesn't have to be that messy. I mean u put conditioner in your hair and it doesnt splatter everywhere, right? Just mix it to the consistency of a conditioner (add conditioner to the mix) and just sorta take your hand and smoothe over your 4 sections of hair. no combing, so it dont even splatter anywhere. I can apply henna in like 3mins flat.... :look: HTH.

I do all that........ and still hella messy. :ohwell:

When i put conditioner in my hair, im typically in the shower, so if it splatters i dont notice. And even then, im just putting it in my hair in big globs. Whereas with the Henna, im actually dividing my hair into small sections, and applying it to sections at a time, like a virgin relaxer. I section it way more than 4 times. And i dunno..... it gets all over my hands and so forth, and occasionally little pieces fall off my hands or the sink, and before u know i glance down at the rug and see a piece there. *smh* Its weird for me.

Ive been Henna'ing for several months now, and this hasnt changed. Sure, Ive gotten quicker and more adept at it...... but still the occasional Henna chunks fall about, and it is annoying to clean up.

So...... i dunno. The results are REALLY great and all, but it may just be a fad for me. We shall see! :D

Ive been complaining about the messiness/smell of MTG, and yet ive been using it for over a year now! So who knows where i'll be with Henna in the future.

For the cassia users:
I just recieved my cassia and am planning to use it next week. I have a few questions. Should I use the whole package 100g? I was thinking of mixing it with a moisturizing con and some EVOO. Is that okay? Do you have any other suggestions for a mix? TIA.

I'm planning to work my way up to actual henna. I want to use it with indigo to have jet black hair. Right now I just want the strength na dthickness from the cassia.

And the color looks amazing with your skin tone. :yep: But ITA. It's messy. I can minimize it, but the fact remains. :(

I'll be doing henna for a long time. I love it. And at this point I can apply it quickly with virtually no mess.

P.S. Do yall still do hardcore Aphoghee treatments evern though you are using henna?

I still do hardcore protein treatments, I have to. As strong as the henna makes your hair seem, it cannot take the place of protein. My hair demands it! :)

With the improvement my hair has seen, I will keep using henna and indigo. I love the thickness, the shine, the gorgeous color. I'm not giving that up.

*throws henna gang sign*

Henna for life, yo! :lachen:

That's cute. :lachen:

I'm still on the fence, but I'm not waiting for anyone's hair to fall out!   Henna's been used safely for millennia, so I'm not worried.

Though technically not henna, I purchased some cassia months ago (along with amla powder), but I haven't used it yet. Maybe in a couple of weeks I'll try it, but I'm not in a rush to experiment with conditioning formulations.

Another card carrying Henna for Life member checking in. :yep:

Henna gives hair unmistakable bling, color over greys and strength. Plus I love that it's cheap too. :D

And that's what has me dying to try it, mess and all.

I'm a devoted member of the Henna for Life Club. :yep:

It's a safe way for me to color the few grays I have. Right now I use it bi-weekly, but I'll probably do it once a month after my henna fever wears off.

It's the only herb I'm addicted to.

When I hear questions about products and continuing regimens, I am reminded of how much really good information we share which continually shapes our thinking about the choices available to us. I began with Shapley MTG because I wanted the thickness and growth and moved to Naturallady's Boundless Tresses to avoid the smell while reaping the benefits. It is amazing and wonderful to me that one of our members saw a need and created a business to fill that need. I took biotin exclusively until I learned of MSM. I may move from MSM to something else if a viable choice is presented. I used to depend on my Dominican conditioners until I learned about henna. I will remain with henna until a better choice arises. I can't imagine what that would be but that is the beauty of this board - I am sure that someone will offer an intriguing alternative. Sorry to be so long as a newbie.

Use all 100g - 100g is enough for one application unless you have lots and lots of hair that is extremely thick.

Go here http://www.mehandi.com/hair/cassiaobovatadoit.htmln and read what Catherine from Henna for Hair/Mehandi says. You can add some conditioners and EVOO, but it's best to keep it simple the first time around (just use warm water) until you are more adept at using it! HTH!

I'm definitely a henna for life girl.:yep: In fact my wonderous results with it are what has led me to find other Indian herbs and oils and the principles of Ayruvedic personal care that are rapidly improving the condition of my hair. I love the color and strength of my hair:love: , yay for henna!!!:creatures

You sound just like me. Substitute MN for Boundless Tresses and we've even taken the same path. I love that about being here.

You also made my whole point, but much better than I did. That point is... sometime along the way you'll discover something that you realize you will NEVER replace, for me that's henna (Aveda DR and MSM but that's OT). I guess I started this thread to gauge how many others had reached the same conclusion and how many had moved on.

I dunno...I'm thinking. Just making sure it doesn't make me a card carrying member of the "Bald in '08" Club.

Henna has been used for hair conditioning and coloring for thousands of years so I don't see it as a fad. I see it as a part of my hair care, a very healthy part. :)

Exactly. :)
I havent tried it yet, I may try it once my hair is completely natural, the benefits seem to be great. :)

I'm in the "Henna for Life" club.
It's easy to apply without any mess here.
I use the same brush used to apply a relaxer and it works out great!

You know I thought about that once...

I must be one of the few that disikes henna (actually I'm more afraid of it). I'm still recovering for my henna mishap, 1 yr later!!!

I've decided to stop waiting for folks' hair to fall out:lol: I've ordered cassia but not henna. I've got to get past the patch test first, then I'll vote.:D

I say Henna for life. THe conditioning and coverage of gray (I don't have them yet) are enough to keep me down for the long run.

I think it might have been my own fault because, I had previously dyed my hair and then used henna (about 4 mths later). Anyway, after using henna, my hair was always dry, full of split ends and kept breaking off in tiny little pieces. I've been slowly cutting off the damage ever since. Thankfully I have only about 1" of bad hair left.:) I woud like to try henna again but, now, i'm scared.

Do you know what type of henna you used? If it was Body-Art-Quallity (BAQ), I doubt that would have happened. The research I've done and ALL the posts I've read here and on other websites leads me to conclude that most people who've had a bad experience with "henna" purchased and used henna that is not recommended.

Sorry this happened to you. :( . If you decide to rediscover henna, read and learn all you can about henna and then try again! You will be pleasantly surprised!

Honestly, I don't remember what brand it was. I've done some research on henna since, and apparently henna and synthetic dye don't mix?!?
When I see all the sucess other people have had with henna, I think I MUST have used it improperly. I would definitely need to learn more before I try again.
