I just IM about this for the first time today. This iron seems to mimic flat iron chase method, which helps to separate the strands as they are exposed to the heat giving a straighter result with one pass.

I'm intrested to know what material the barrell is made out of, I want a ceramic heating element. I am also a little concerned with the rotating nature of this iron since I'm a natural, it seems that it may catch a kink which could cause breakage.

I'd be interested to see posts of a natural using this product.

I wonder how long it keeps your hair "amazing" though? How long b4 my hair would frizz up again?:perplexed
 
2 things i wonder about: the brush(maybe if the bristles were at least boar), and gettin another one free(does that mean it breaks easy, so you need a spare?)

as far as the shine, it doesn't look much different from a regular iron. where the guinea pigs at??
 
try doing a search on it,someone has already used it and posted about it. I just dont remember who
 
My cousin just ordered this. I had never heard of it before, but she said it tamed her roots (and she needs a relaxer). Right now they are on sale...buy one get one free. Not that I'm encouraging PJism, but i want to try it.

I'm trying to talk her into giving me her free one.
 
I wonder about that brush as well. I had to giggle when they used Kimberly Locke as one of the models. I have never seen that chicks hair look like who did it and what for. I love how they washed it and then put nothing in it, to make it look like she has the crappiest hair...when I know she has some of the greatest curls. I watched it long enough to see her portion of the demo, then I turned.

I have a feeling it would NOT work on my hair.

I was thinking of ordering one for my DD

You pay 14.99 up front and if you decide to keep it you pay three payments of 39.99. :nono: I didn't see that at first and that's a little steep for me. But if you go in on it with a buddy it might be more reasonable.

She also said it gets pretty hot and that the bristles on the brush are stiff but not too hard. She seems to really like hers.
 
Wow that seems like a lot of money!!!! I think I'll stick to my Chi until the Instyler is available at Walmart for $30 bucks
 
Just got one today (as a gift) I want to try it so bad so I'm just gonna try it on my 1 week old cornrow (i have my hair braided for wig challenge) and will let you guys know
 
the first pic is my air dried unbraided hair with lots of product
the second pic show how it straightnd
the third pic shows how much hair I lost not bad consdrng my hair has been braided for a week-non of the hair got stuck in the bristles of the brush
the fourth pic is showing how my roots came out

the instyler did straighten my hair but I was not able to get close to the roots like I like. The bristles did not snag or pull my hair they just lightly glided over my hair unlike the maxi glide that actually combs down in the hair. I wasnt able to acheive any curl but that could be because of the amount of product and oil on my hair. I would like to try it again on freshly washed hair.

Just wanted to say the brush that comes with the instyler is very soft so it shouldn't pull anyone's hair out. My mom gave one to my sister and I for xmas and I've only used it once. It works quite well at straightening the hair because the brush stretches out the hair while the barrel straightens just like with the comb-chase method. If it was ceramic I would be much more excited about it. Also the barrel spins when you use it which is a little disconcerting for someone who is already nervous about using heat.:look:

I saw the informercial last year and I THIS close to ordering it. Seeing these reviews got me wanting to order them again. What the heck am I doing in this thread anyways?
 
I have one, had it for a minute now and I have only used it maybe 3 or four times. It allows me to section more hair than i would usually for a flat iron. I'm texlax, I get the same results as a flat iron just quicker process time.

The only thing i don't like is I'm right handed and my right sides comes out fine but my left side comes out crinkly at the ends due to the way i hold the iron. I have to hold it with my left hand which feels funny in order for it to turn out right
 
I haven't used it myself, but my cousin and her two daughters have one that they have been using (too much!) lately. My cousin and her older daughter are relaxed; the younger daughter is natural. With all three, it gives lovely straight results; and I am almost tempted to get one myself. The only thing I find on their heads is that the roots are a bit too noticeable, as if the Instyler doesn't get as close as, say, a hot comb would. I might try theirs out to see if it is worth buying.

Seemed like a great product at first then i thought about that too and the fact that, with my clumsy self:rolleyes:, i would forget that the whole barrel is hot and burn myself all over the place!

At that price, why not just use that good old flat iron and do a chase method?

I did not find this to be true. Can't speak for how close a hot comb gets to the scalp, but it definitely gets as close as my FHI flat iron. I think it's all about technique with this tool, if you ask me.

I've used it twice so far this year, I just got it in February.

The brush does not pull your hair out. I doubt that it will cause any thinning; no more so than a flat iron or pressing comb. Any hair that is in the bristles was probably gonna come out anyway. Like another poster said, the bristles are VERY soft and flexible.

I'll be using it each time I iron my hair out from now on until it dies. I really do like the Instyler.

My niece just got one of these. She's 13 and bi-racial with hair (when straightened) is past her bottom, and shrunken is apl. She straightened her hair for my wedding this past saturday. Initially she didn't think it was gonna work with her thickness and curls. It didn't get caught in the bristles and was very sleek and shiny when done. It only took her 30 min to do her hair including bumping her ends. It looked really good, and I will have to post her pics here (before and after) so you call can see it.
