I'm Tempted To Buy . . . But . . .

Greetings, beautiful people!

Let's (therapeutically) post!

One of the things that has SHOCKED me the most about taking this Healthy Hair Journey is how much I stay in an "I-need-to-make-a-purchase" mode. OMGoodness!

Maybe if I document my purchasing urges with a note about why I'm going to hold off, how long I'm going to wait, what else I can do/buy/use instead that'll ease the urge.

Maybe?!?? :D

What do you have the urge to purchase? And what's the "but . . ." that follows that urge?

I'm tempted to first-time purchase that Aubrey Organics protein shampoo. BUT . . . I just did a twistout that doesn't need washing out, I own at least 5 shampoos right now, and I need to be reading and writing.

Focus, Blossom, focus!

I just came off a serious buying binge and now I have buyer's hangover just like an alcoholic would have after a bender. Guilt. Pleasure. Shame. I didn't need nothing! I was supposed to be squirrling my little money away! I went on "no buy" some months ago for like two months and when I came off I went beserk. Felt I HAD to have all these condishes. Didn't want to run out, you know, cuz 20 freaking hair condishes certainly aren't going to last. I just realized after a plunked down some healthy change for Qhemet that my rent/car insurance is due NEXT MONTH. Anyway, I'm done. That includes nail polish, too, UNTIL...I really need therapy.

I have carts Walmart, Vitacost, Target and now Jet with tons of things in each. Lots of conditioners that I miss, can't remember why I stopped using or just want to try because everyone already has. I need help. Luckily I'm broke so there's nothing I can do. I used to be able to "find money" to buy hair stuff but I cut that out and stopped borrowing from other important things.

I'm tempted to buy the Kenra Professional Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner, but I'm going to wait until payday. I really do need to try chelating before I try my first protein treatment and before I test out my Naturalicious line products again. However, I can exhibit the self-discipline required to wait until payday. :)

I love this topic, I used to have very strong urges. And I am a reformed product junkie. I am a sucker for a hair product that sounds like a milk shake or something buttery or like chocolate or vanilla.

Now, I have my staples which is Komaza stuff and Curl Prep Sweet Buttah which I like but is so expensive so I am less heavy handed than before.

Best,
Almond Eyes

Man, I seriously have buyer's remorse. I found a Babyliss Pro TT Steam Straightener at a beauty supply store for $150+ tax. I bought it even though I really was supposed to use that money for some other stuff . There are no other specific flat-irons from that line anywhere. I checked eBay AND Amazon. I have 30 days to return it.

This is me. I was looking back through my Fotki at products and was like "Why did I stop using that again?" So many lost staples and I don't know why.

I'm tempted to buy a relaxer but I suck at having relaxed hair.

Also tempted to reorder from Komaza but I'm going out of town and don't want to miss delivery.

What reformed you, @almond eyes ?

I have been on this off and on natural thing since forever. I have used every product and I mean every product under the sun.

I took time off so my budget was not the same to keep buying and experimenting with new things. And it forced me to learn what products truly worked for my hair and check the ingredients list. So, even if I am tempted to buy something that says, "chocolate milk shake argan shea butter smoothie curls whipped cream", when I read the ingredients and it doesn't match my no no list I step away. I think when you have your no no list it helps.

Best,
Almond Eyes

I'm taking the flat iron back. I don't know what I was thinking, I know I can't afford it. The guilt is gone and I feel a sense of relief.

So glad the guilt is gone and you feel a sense of relief!

When it's time to make such a purchase, you'll do it. It'll feel good, and you can use the iron without feeling "funny" every time you do. You deserve to enjoy the sweet joy of saving up until you can afford it so that you can enjoy the iron 100%.

Who knows? Some unexpected money might turn up sooner than you think. Regardless, that $150+ is going to feel NICE being back in your possession for a spell! :)

I'm a product junkie, I'm proud and that's not changing anytime soon. Hardly a week goes by without me buy a hair product, supplement and skin product or supplement or some assistive tool.

I really have no desire in retiring my currently great feedback implosive purchases right now so j guess Ill be watching you ladies from the sidelines.

I could write a scroll of all the things I want to and I am going to buy. I need at the top of my list though is HSN pictured below. I am dying to try this

Have any of you ladies used it with success. Spill the deets please. A sister is desperate.

New hair dryer
Steam caps
Conditioners ( don't make me list them)
Gels
Powders
Puddings
Shampoos
Relaxer
Weave extensions

Sunscreen
Nail polish
Supplements because I always run out before I can stock up
Lip liners
Brow fillers
And the list goes on.

 Enjoy, @PureSilver !

I think if you are enjoying it, ENJOY! There are SO many worse things a person could be into other than caring lovingly for his or her hair, ya know? If you can afford it and it's fun, I think it's cool. :)

My problem is that I don't want to become a product junkie. :(

And it's more than just that: I don't want to give so much energy and time to my hair that other areas start to suffer. :(

I'm sure you are totally in control of your situation and are happy. :)

I don't want to be THIS caught up in products. Before I transitioned, taking care of my relaxed hair was a BREEZE. I spent a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of the time and energy on my relaxed hair that I do on my natural hair. That left me with free time to be with others, focused on loving relationships and good times.

Now I'm managing my budget, time, shopping trips, research, etc. all around hair. I know I need to do this for a period of time, but I don't want this to get out of control. I want hair to be hair, and the rest of life to be larger!

If I let myself become a product and hair-doing junkie just because I'm natural, I likely won't sustain it. I'll likely re-relax just on principle, for serenity.

NO raining on your parade, though. <3 Enjoy loving on your hair, ma'am! I think it's cool if it feels good to ya!

I wouldn't exactly say that I can afford it, I just put in in my budget. I am a shopaholic for everything because I hate being in need and not having what I need at my disposal so with that said I'm working my way to financial freedom where I can purchase all I need in BULK so I'm not always budgeting because I ran out of something.

Smart. That sounds like a win-win. :)

I think most of us have our "areas." When I taught school, I refused to be without supplies. Couldn't "afford" it all, but I worked to make it work! Was worth it, to me at least. :)

Blessings, lady!

Hugs!

When can you make the purchase? And what can you use/do in the meanwhile?

I'm not buying anything else until my insurance is paid next month. Can't sleep on that...and I'm really not trying to diver funds from this school loan...grrr...In the mean time I can use anyone of the other several gels I have as well as the bushel of gels I have on the way. Or I can just leave my hair up and concentrate on my school assignments (like I should be doing anyway). Getting curl definition for my hair (the front part in particular) is a hit and miss game. That butter really looked like it could do the trick. BUT I'm walking away because it would make me sick to dip into the emergency funds....I'll just have to experiment with what I already have.

All of that makes mighty good sense to me.

That butter DOES look like a product worthy of trial, just at the right time. Thanks for mentioning it!

I'm impressed, @IronButterfly , and I applaud you.

Thankfully I curbed my PJism many moons ago.

Im now sticking to my staples and then if I feel something is not meeting my bar, I'll ask the board or Google for suggestions.. and I'll give it away or send it back if I do not like it.

Right now I'm tempted to buy some fragrance oil online for this bomb shea butter mix I whipped up, BUT I really wish I could take a whiff of the fragrance oil before im stuck with an entire bottle.

I have to agree with @almond eyes , once I figured what ingredients worked and did not work with my hair I stopped being a product junkie. But there was a time I brought a lot products that I know I didn't need. Now I will get excited about a product but I read the label first and for the most part that product stays right where I found it.

@PureSilver I was being generous to a friend that signed on to distribute the ItWorks! brand and I purchased 6 months of it.

The pills are easy to swallow, they don't cause any type of stomach nausea and over all I say they are a solid HSN pill.

Will your hair grow 3 inches in a month?.. NO. 2 inches??.. No.

I do believe that I retained at least 6 inches throughout majority of my scalp this year (with trimming along the way). * My 1 year post BC is on 10.10.15.

Disclaimer: With the 50-11 things that I do that may contribute to my speedy growth, I cannot say 100% if these HSN pills have anything to do with it.

I could write a scroll of all the things I want to and I am going to buy. I need at the top of my list though is HSN pictured below. I am dying to try this
