I need to know how to pack for my hair? LOL!!!:grin: I know it might sound kinda crazy....but i've never been there and i don't kno wwhat to expect and so i'm wondering what i should do for a whole week? I do want to wear it straight though.

What do u usually take with you?
 
I've never worn my hair straight there or anywhere in the Caribbean. My curls love the salt water and climate so I just let it soak it all in. Do you not plan on swimming?
 
I've been there. You might not want to wear your hair straight there. Trust me, it won't work out. The only thing you need out there is a regular conditioner. Use Braid-outs as a daily style. Puerto Rico has Walgreens, even in the tourist area so you really don't need to bring anything. Not to mention, in PR they sell tons of dominican products. I would go there with nothing.

Well, they have everything that LHCF mentions. Everything. Just ask any female when you get there. What city are you going to? Like I said, don't bring anything.

When I saw that I just busted out laughing! :lachen:We LHCFers are something else! :grin:

But on a serious note... I've been a couple of times and I always just wore my hair like in my siggy. Whenever I go on vacation, it's always with a fresh relaxer. That way if I go swimming, I can wash or co-wash and basically airdry without dealing with NG. I would just take a good moisturizing shampoo, a cheapie condish for co-washing, and maybe a deep conditioner.

Also, it's so hot in the caribbean that after an hour or so in the sun, I can't stand having the hair on my neck/back and end up putting it in a ponytail.

I'm not exactly sure what city....I think San Juan....not sure though.
I'm gonna go and LURK up some Dominican Products...lol...Thanx tho!

Ok. But i do wanna rawck up on some Dominican products and i will be relaxing my hair this month.....but i know that by the time its time for my trip....i'm gonna have some serious newgrowth!!

You can still rack up on Dominican products, but to be safe I would personally take tried and true products with me... just in case.

Girl... you better STRETCH that relaxer until a couple of days before your vacation! You wanna have FUN... not worrying about nurturing new growth!! :yep:
 
I would like to...but i have an event coming up this month and so i was waiting for that to relax....i'm 8 weeks post right now!!....and it's not really all that great for me to stretch my relaxers longer than 10 wks.....i get serious shedding and tangles.
 
Muy bien....yo habla piqito Espanol.....lol!! I'm a Floridian...so even though i don't really speak it...somehow i understand it...lol!!
 
OK Straight is not going to happen. So if you're texlaxed try wearing it curly, maybe do braidouts, buns... Bring mad conditioner (you'll be able to buy it there easily though so if you wanna keep your bag light don't pack it) and moisturizer. Also a shampoo that's for swimmers you may want to buy.
 
I spent the last 6 months of '08 in PR, and the Walgreens carry most (if not all) of the products they stock in the US.

If you want to try Dominican products, I recommend La Bomba deep conditioner and rinse.

There's also a store called Gente Linda (pretty ppl) in Old San Juan that is owned by a Dominican lady, so she stocks some products that Walgreens doesnt have.

If you are going to be in San Juan, there is a Walgreens in Condado, the tourist district. Just pick up some hair stuff there. Pack extremely light. Don't bring anything for your hair except a scarf.

That lady talked us to death!! She was so sweet though and was excited we already knew what we wanted.

OP I agree w/Angelicus. I wouldn't load my suitcase down w/hair products, especially if you plan on bringing other stuff back with you frm the trip. If you're in the Condado or Carolina area, that Walgreen's is open 24 hours and there are a few grocery stores just outside the area as well as a couple shopping malls. You'll be okay. When there or anywhere else, I wear my hair in twists while @ the beach or pool then later in the day I take them down if we're going somewhere special.
 
Thanks ladies 4 this thread. DH & I r leaving 4 San Juan on Monday. I'm natural & will be going 2 my stylist on Saturday evening 4 flat twists 2 the back. I will keep the twists until we get there & rock twist outs 4 the entire week. I'm def going 2 check out the Dominican spot, though.
