I'm Giving Up On Natural Hair

Wow. I know how you feel. I relaxed my hair yesterday after 7 years of being natural.

I had loose hair then locs, then back to loose hair this january I couldn't be bothered with it, plus I wanted different styles that I know wouldn't look right if I press& flat iron it.

mochalocks

Did you cut your hair too?

Well it's done! I'm no longer natural and have no regrets whatsoever. The funny thing though is when I rinsed my hair I kept looking in the tub for a huge hunk since all the bulk is gone:lol: I'm not gonna cut YET. I actually have a little bit of length, right at collar bone length.

I'm going to apply the same healthy hair practices that I did to my natural hair. This is the first time in 3 years I've felt air on my scalp and it's so nice:lol:

I'll take some pics in the morning. It is a little thin. I kind of could tell it was even as a natural but the texture nearly hid it.

Anywho thanks so much for the support and to my ladies in PM land who walked me through it!

Congrats on your decision. If you get a chance, post pics.

Also, consider rollersets. For many, it's a healthier way to achieve a straight look on relaxed hair. Good luck!

I'm subscribing to this thread. I am 4zzz with a couple months of new growth as a new BCer & I'm living my life like it's golden since I can wash & go but I have some concerns about things will go as my hair grows.

I'm glad that you shared your journey and decided to do you!

I feel you on the hair. I have that same zzzz ball hair  It just always looks startled  And she's really pissy about everything for the most part.

Do what you need to do. I believe there is a thread on here for women who were natural and now relaxed. Is that true @judy4all?

i'm over her cracking up at "startled" :lachen:....

OP - i say do what makes you happy. congrats!

have you ever thought about sisterlocks?

Oops just saw your update. Do you girl, at the end of the day you have to keep yourself happy and there's nothing like not feeling pretty with your hair.

Ok ladies I took some pics this morning. Doing this on my phone so hope they don't come out too huge. My edges are thin but look light years better than they did natural. My pony tail is a bit anorexic but that's because my crown area is shorter than the rest due to the constant knotting I'd get there:nono: BUT it was so nice to unwrap my hair this morning, take these pics, pull it back into a loose ponytail and go. It was a dream! Ok no more jibber jabber, on with the not so stunning pics lol.

Please excuse the sleep deprived face lol.

It looks kbragg. I don't even see much reason for cutting so glad many people told you to hold on the cut. Enjoy your new hair.

kbragg your hair is pretty long, u sure u wanna cut it? It looks healthy. I think if anything you should just blunt cut with some pretty angling around your face.
What are you planning next?

I was so certain it was gonna look chewed up and I'd have no choice but to chop it all but it actually looks decent and much better than when I was natural. I think cutting it would just created more maintenance for me and I'm liking the ease of the loose ponytail/bun right now. I'm just gonna trim my ends, wrap and/or roller set to style and keep it low mani. Maybe I can hit APL by the end of the year :)

@kbragg

Have you thought about your new Regimen? Hang out in some of the Relaxed Threads.

I haven't been natural since my teenage years, but with the exception of Relaxing, I pretty much try to use Natural/Handmade products. I shy away from most cones, mineral oils, parabens, SLS's etc.......

So, hopefully, whatever you were using as a Natural will be able to transfer over.

Enjoy Your New Hair Journey

I'm just going to keep it simple. I want to see how my relaxed hair likes Supergirl's products. They worked great on my natural hair. My plan is to DC twice weekly, once with protein, once with moisture, wrap and silk scarf at night, Moisturize and seal daily. Loose bun or ponytail daily, rollerset for style on weekends/special occasions if needed. No heat. Oh and sulfur oil (NJoy's recipe) every other day.

I'll throw a cowash in as needed due to my workouts. Plan to shampoo every two weeks or as needed.

Looks nice kbragg :)

Be careful with wrapping as it can be hard on fragile edges.. the few times I do wrap I do most of the manipulation with my fingers and a wide toothed comb, your wrap doesn't have to be super smooth or tight to have nice results in the morning. I would advise staying away from brushes around your edges or in general, they tend to cause breakage. Even tying a scarf too tight around your edges at night can be damaging over time..

Pretty hair! We would love to have you in the APL thread. Most of us are about your length. We are very supportive of each others hair journeys.

I tried to go natural again a while back, and I failed miserably! I thought I could do it again since I did it before when I was in my early 20's. Boy has my hair changed since then. Just like or bodies, our hair changes with age. It was a hot high maintenance mess! I will just stick to relaxers and keep it as healthy as I can. Relaxers are just easier for some people.

Girl I feel you on this one kbragg. I am mildly texlaxed and can't seem to get rid of the ssks, so I will mostly likely be joining you next relaxer session. I am very close to this decision myself.

Girl do you and enjoy every moment of it. I am proud of you!

ETA - Your hair looks great in the pics above by the way. As IDareT'sHair said, hang out in some of the relaxed hair threads and work on thickening your hair. It will come back, and at least you won't have the knots to contend with anymore.
