I'm Getting Cornrows...help

Okay, Im getting some cornrows this weekend, and plan on keeping them in for about 2 weeks, 3 tops. I want to know exactly what I need to do, before, during, and after to continue all the wonderful maintenance Ive learned here on LCHF. I want to keep my own hair moisturized, and use BT while I have it in.

I should wash and DC before right? Protein or moisture, or does it depend on my hair?

What type of hair is best for cornrow braiding? I read somewhere something about kanekalon fiber. Is that synthetic?

Do I wash during?

Clarify after?

What else do I need to know?

oh, and I am only 2wks post relaxer.

I've only worn cornrows once. That was about 5 months ago. I was nervous about the care of them too. I do remember DC before I got them. I sprayed my hair daily with a braid spray for moisture. I can't remember the type of hair purchased, I just know it didn't cost much. I took them down after 2 weeks. Sorry, I couldn't help much.

I'm sure some of the braid experts will chime in.

thanks babe. :)

In my opinion the best hair for cornrows is Kanekalon. I don't get the ends burned but dipped in hot water afterwards to seal the ends, and this prevents them from getting unraveled.

I usually clarify and deep condition before hand. After which the only product I have in my hair is a leave in, and I will blow dry it. This makes it easier for the braider to handle since it's not slippery with moisturisers, and at least I know she won't be tearing through my hair because it's not knotted.

Hope that helps.

Hi, Lucy,

I do a pre-poo, shampoo, and DC before I get the cornrows, and during, I will spray them with African Pride braid spray twice a day, as well as Infusium 23 (diluted), and Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla leave in and Tui leave in. I only wear mine for two weeks (sometimes a week and a half depending on how they look).

After I take them down, I pre-poo, shampoo, and do a DC for a little longer than normal, and either roller set or roller wrap.

HTH!

I WASH AND DO A PROTEIN TREAMENT AND DEEP CON BEFORE BRAIDS OR WEAVE I TAKE MY OWN COMB AND I TAKE MY OWN LR OR NATURES BLESSINGS I DONT LET THEM USE THE BLOWDRYER OR USE FIRE OR THAT BROWN GEL AND DONT BRAID TO TIGHT I SPRAY WITH MOISTURIZ EVERY DAY AND PLEASE TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR TEMPLES:lol: I DONT LET THEM USE A RATAIL COMB CAUSE THEY LOVE TO USE THEM:mad: AND WHEN I TAKE THEM DOWN I DO ALL OF ABOVE ALL OVER AGAING:)
