I was using my flat iron on 450. I now use it at around 370. Believe it or not, my hair got just as straight at the lower temperature!

Usually I set mine to the highest, which is 395 degrees. But lower ones get my hair pretty straight. I should use them more often.

:nicethread:

The temperature that I flat iron my hair on, is between 160 - 230 degrees farenheit. I don't plan on flat ironing my hair on a temperature anymore than 300 degrees farenheit EVER again! I used the Chi last year with a good heat protectant and got tremendous split ends. Split ends are horrible. as soon as you think you cut them off, they jump out the closet, and say "Here I am...AGAIN"! I think my hair was already more prone to split ends, because I had OP ends. I still am not flat ironing my hair above 300 degrees farenheit anymore. :nono:

I have a FHI 207RVI, anything below 375 and it's puffy-frizz city. Population, me

Even 375 is pushing it, most of the time I put it on 400 just to be sure my hair won't poof up

omg!!! You can fry chicken at 350:nono:

:lachen:HAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lachen: Chicken:lick:

I have tons of heat damage in the front of my hair and my stylist told me she was using 410 on my hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im getting it cut TODAY!

Im natural by the way, with fine strands, BSL when straight.

i have a cheap ol' andis, and my new growth is tamed on setting 3 (out of 20).

i just found out my ma's been borrowing it, and she uses it on setting 20 every single morning on her hair. :nono:

After reading this thread, I am convinced that I need a hotter iron. I have a Jilibre that I bought to teach myself to flat iron, before I got the more serious costly ones. I am positive now that I need a higher temp. My flat iron only goes to 350 and does not straighten my hair on one pass. The image below on the right in my siggy is after a flat iron and my hair doesn't even look like it and the iron was as high as it would go.

300

A stylist was doing my friends hair on Sunday for her wedding and he had his FHI Platform set at 400. She's natural and already had her hair super straight from a Dominican blow out. He also did the hair for the Mother of the groom's with the FHI set at 400.

He said for home use he would not recommend anyone use more than 300 unless they had super coarse hair.

Apparently, the coarsest hair can only withstand 384 degrees of heat....according to the manufacturers of the GHD iron. I don't go over this temperature.

If I ever need to re-straighten during my straight period (I'm natural). I don't go above 200.

I'm glad I'm not alone. I set my FHI to 370 each time but I have to PULL and go over it 2 times to get straight.

On the maxiglide, I used 10 which is about 430F.
On the solia, I'm using 375 or 450 depending on how I dry my hair. I use Sabino Moisture Block as my heat protectant.

I don't usually go above setting 3 on my maxiglide (and no more than 2 if I've previously rollerset it)

When I do flat iron I want my hair straight straight, and I want it to last longer than one day. I put mine as high as it goes. I just ordered an FHI Platform cause it goes to 450 versus the CHI Turbo I had only going to 356.

I also sleep without a scarf.

Depends... Im texlaxed... if I am blowdrying/airdrying and flatironing... i crank my FHI up to 370-400....

Rollersets I am at 300

395 degrees. I didn't used to, but nowadays, I couldn't care less about temp settings really. If I'm pressing my hair, I want it straight. Not half-straight, not poofy... straight. If I'm going to spend 2-3 hours styling, I will do it right the first time around and have no less than near-perfect hair.
I can deal with the possible small damage done in the long-run for slick, soft, lovely bounciness right now. lol.

Hooray for Enjoying One's Hair!
