I go into Sally's, all I wanted was a deep penetrating conditioner that says leave in for More than 7 mins.

First of all when I walk in I don't get a hello, but the (european) lady that came in two sec. behind me got a big ole hello:rolleyes:

I am looking all over the store reading the labels studing them carefully.

The lady that came in behind me was apparently interested in hair dryers, She asked the woman that worked there which one was good. The woman said oh anything above 1600 watts is good. So the lady goes on to say, I really need something that will not make my hair freeze, the store clerk oh yeah any of them are good for that, conair is a great product everyone loves it and they make your hair shine, they don't make them frizz up anymore.

I was like hmm no mention of technique how to hold the hair with right amount of tension, It would have been a great opportunity to rec a good heat protectant or something.

So I was like hmm let's see what's she knows, so I say excuse I am trying to find a deep conditioner that directs you to leave in for 7 mins or more.
The clerk says to me, oh you can use any of them for a DC. I smiled and said oh well I really need something specifically designed for a DEEP condition. She says I don't think it really matters :nono:

Then she runs over to the other side of the isle and says here's one, I am like oh great I get over there it's MOTIONs, I read the ingredients the second ingredient is Mineral Oil I was like eww. So I put it down THEN I found ORS deep penatrating conditioner:yep:

I was very happy, So I head to the register, the store clerk is looking at me kinda cross eyed, like hump why ain't she got the one I picked out.
So I was smiling I said I decided to get this one the motion has mineral oil as a main ingrediant It's not going to penatrate my hair like this will.

She wouldn't even look me in the eye she just was like oh ok. Maybe she figured I was talking out the back of butt since I have a crochet style in.

Now see I guess I am different but whenever someone has some knowledge for me I perk up and listen dang:rolleyes:

Oh well without LHCF I would have been walking out with some jacked up products that would hurt my hair, once again thanks Ladies!!

I just wonder how many customers walk into Sally's thinking the cashiers are hair experts and follow their advice

Girl - I don't ask those chicks in Sally's ish...

They ask if I need any help and I am like "only when I get to the counter".....I had a funky experience when I walked in one not to long ago and the older yt lady offhandedly try to route me to the "ethnic products" and politely told her that I would be wrong if I routed her to the anti-aging...(caught me on a BAD day)

Those folks are there to get a check...no more - no less...

:lachen::lachen::lachen: Warn us when you having a bad day cuz I don't want you directing me to the weightloss supplements:lachen::lachen::lachen:

I've never been to a Sally's but I couldn't live with my Motions Moisture Plus, I love it!
My hair and Mineral oil have never gotten along, I have girl friends who hair thrive with LIVE, PINK Oil, and Motions but my hair it's just sad:nono:

Of course the clerk didn't know that, but she didn't have to be a sour puss about :ohwell:

I don't ask for help at Sally's and when they offer it, I say "no thanks". I don't know about all Sally's but at the locations where I go, they don't know anymore about the products than I do (probably less). Several years ago they recommended Dr. Miracle's to me and that's when it was pretty much confirmed that they don't know what they are talking about (in my opinion). I've also noticed when I watch them help other people that they always seem to direct the black people to the "ethnic product isle" and everyone else to the other sections. That's a no-no for me. Just because I'm black doesn't mean that I want to use Motions or Dr. Miracle's. I use whatever works.

I find that my hair has nothing against mineral oil
in fact the motions oil moisturiser works a lot better than the ORS olive oil moisturiser
obviously those people just work there so i dont really expect them to know anything about black hair

Yes, I can't stand sales clerks with bad attitudes, I can take my business elsewhere.

They only work there. They aren't specialists or they wouldn't be working in sally's. When you go into beauty supply stores YOU should have some idea of what may work for you.

Sales people are not trained on ingredients, how products work on different types of hair etc., They just applied for a job to sale stuff. LOL

I think we come to boards like this, get information, and expect the rest of the world to automatically know what we learned on here, without them ever being here.

I thinks it's asking way too much of them.

Amen to that.

And yes, I learned many, many years ago about the sales people at Sally's when this black chick whose hair was tore up from the floor up tried to recommend a product to me. I took one look at her jacked up hair and decided it would be in my best interest to ignore her recommendations.

I used to go to Sally's in San Marcos which is about 10 miles down the road.
There was a saleslady there that was so annoying. She'd follow me around and always asking if I need help and wanting to be "friendly." She's made being friendly feel like you're being stalked.

A Sally's opened up in my small town and I was like, "Good. I don't have to deal with that lady anymore."

Well I show up in the new Sally's and guess who the manager is? Barf! So she continues to be annoying. The last time I was there, she hollered out to the rest of the sales team, "Oh... she's here all the time. She just LOVES to browse."

Now I do like to look around. But you can count on one hand the number of times my PJ-self didn't find SOMETHING to buy.

Anyway... now when I want to go to Sally's I get in my car and drive the 10 miles to San Marcos. It's worth the trip to skip that chick.

Okay what is up with Sally's for real? Over priced products with bad customer service. But you can't help going there cause they always have what you need lol.

I didn't discover Sally's until I moved away to college out into a suburb township. When I walked in to this store the cashiers (white or black) would never say hi, ask you if you need help, they would always be playing around in the storage room/BS’ing while putting products on the selves and have you on ignore mode. They would let you walk up and down an aisle in obvious product distress and would roll their eyes at you. If you asked them question about a product they carried they were like dears in headlights or had an attitude like you were bothering them.

I always just thought it was that store. Since I moved back to the city (there are no Sally's around here) so I haven't been to one in about 3 years or so. But from the past stories posted on here. I am starting to believe it’s like a Nation wide thing with Sally's and their bad behavior, lack of simple product education, common sense, and customer etiquette. They suck!

They need to do something about that!

I agree with you, what bothered me more was the way she was actting like she KNEW what she was talking about, I would have been ok with her saying "you know I am not sure"

That "fake it til you make stuff" shouldn't appy to bad hair advice:lachen::lachen:

I no longer shop at Sally's. Those bitties in there that day almost had me act a fool about some rollers :wallbash: and the sad part is I experience bad customer service there everytime I go. :look:

The only thing the clerks at Sally's can do for me is point me in the direction of an item I want IF they have it and ring up my purchases!

THAT IS IT!!!

I just wonder how many customers walk into Sally's thinking the cashiers are hair experts and follow their advice

A lot, it's a sad procession of folks that I see everytime I go there. Frizzy, short dry, ugly hair dye jobs, you name it, I've seen it all. People just don't educate themselves about hair (yt people too)!

ITA about LHCF, I'd be one them jacked up hair folks wandering around Sally's:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

I just assume that anybody working at Sally's or Ulta is just an employee and not an expert at anything. Its not like Best Buy or Sears where they're "trained" to figure out what kind of tv you want.

I asked a simple question at ULTA one time. I wanted to know which CHI product is the heat protectant, for some reason I couldn't find it. The girl just looked at me all confused, she passed me something and I was like umm no this isn't what I asked but thanks anyway I'll figure it out.

The Dominican BSS I go to (its in Central Sq Lynn for you Mass ladies) the ladies there are usually really good with answering questions, even give advice when I don't ask for it. Any other place I just see them as retail employees just trying to make a living.

I don't have a sally's around me but sometimes when I go to a bss to get a product. I'll ask which is good and most of the time, the people would lead me some cheap product. I realize that 1. They don't know what product is good and 2. I must look like I don't have any money cuz they would never steer me to the "good stuff" unless I ask. So I don't think that Sally's is the only place that does that....shoo it happens in irl all the time, my friend used to give wrong directions to lost motorist. I'm like if you don't know then why give them the wrong info? She cuz they asked and I'm like wtf?:nono:

:lachen::lachen: - Girl - I would be the pot calling the kettle black!!!

The clerk wouldn't even KNOW what you were talking about...their training consists of making sure that store is neat, prices are correct, and puttin' that ish on the shelf...

If they happen to know ANYTHING, it is either because they use the product themselves or on a slow day they may be bored and start looking at the products...

I have come across some nice salespeople at Sally's but the majority of the time its the older yt women who are probably mad that they have to still work or mad that they have to work there (especially with the teeny boppers working there) and to see US fly-a** sisters walkin' just ticks them off (just speculating)

Something similar happened to me, i was looking for a keratin treatment and the lady gave me a PERMANENT relaxer with Keratin, i was angry on how ignoant she was. Grrrr

:lachen: :lachen:

I so want to use something like this on my next bad day!!!!

I don't ask the clerks at Sally's or the Asian bbs anything.:nono: Except to direct me to a product I either already use or have already done research on.

I also used to avoid Sally's bescause I thought they didn't have any Black hair care products. Once I learned that there is no such thing I ventured in..... it's true. They have no idea what is in there. I went for a shower hose to put on the sink one time... met with confused faces.
Another time I was at the register with a bonnet, a lady came in asking if they had satin bonnets, they told her they had du rags and that's it. I showed the lady where the bonnets were.
A third time I went and asked fo a denman... they looked at be befuddled a d-what?I told them to show me where the brushes were. Then I ask if they had differnt versions once I found it. the lady said no...even though she didn't know what it was a few seconds ago. I only go there for specific things and I don't ask where they are. I won't say where are the seamless combs. I just ask for the combs and look for the model raved about here.

Also Korean merchants tend to know about the products I don't think that's an excuse for Sally's employees. One time I asked a lady for a pony puff in number 2, she looked at me and said you are a 1b. I bought the 2 and when I put it up to my hair in natural light, she was right. I took it back and exchanged it for a 1b

Sally's is a hot mess. They don't even attempt to educate the staff on products, techniques, nada. But whatever. I research what I need, and look for it myself. I don't like store staff up in my face anyway, esp when they don't know a tenth of what I do when it comes to what MY HAIR likes/needs.

I prefer to buy things off the website anyway, as it always has a better selection than the stores do.

Now, at the Korean BSS, it's really hit or miss. They know ALL about some weave, but don't try to ask about a conditioner. I'm lucky they even carry that stuff at all, seems they make the most money off weave.

In both stores I just find the section I need and then look for the product I want, just like afrikurl. I know I need a brush, I go to the brush section and see if it's there. Those chicks in there don't know and don't care.

I had almost the EXACT same thing happen to me.

I went into a sallys once looking for a sulfate free shampoo and when I find my product and come up to the counter this white hispanic clerk says to me: "You know, you should really try this product its good for ethnic hair like yours and mine"... I looked at her 2a silky hair and was like "You use this product?" And shes like "Well no, but we are ETHNIC (and she said it just like that) so we should be using these products.." (DH was with me and when she said this he was like  "oh no here it comes...")I was like.... "So you want me to use something that you wont even put in your own hair?" I pick up the jar turn it over and point to the second ingredient... "Mineral oil is probably the worst thing someone could possibly put in their hair, I only use good products on my hair... but thanks for the recommendation anyway... let me know how this works on your hair!"

She just looked at me like WTF? I just went on about my business and paid and walked out of the store. I couldn't believe that mess.

Also, there was this other time I went in there and the woman handed me a lye relaxer after I asked her for something that would help me soften my hair and would lay the frizz down. She goes "Oh yeah, Have you ever tried using THIS? They use this to stop that frizzy hair". I was like... "who is THEY? And I wanted a CONDITIONER or a leave in not a chemical treatment!!!"

I was so floored!

needless to say I dont ask questions in Sallys anymore... I really pity the girls who do go in there looking for some help though and leave with relaxers and mineral oil. :/

I say about....four phrases when I go to Sally's:

1. Good morning/afternoon/evening.
2. No, thank you.
3. Is/Isn't this on sale?
4. Thank you, and have a great day/evening/weekend.

I smile the whole time, and nothing else leaves my mouf. To date, there have been no problems.

See? Why can't that fool at my store do that? Why does she have to be all up in my grill?
