I decided to do a youtube video on why and how I went natural, and the reasons why I haven't gotten a relaxer since. Like I said, I had no intentions of having a fro or anything like that, I just wanted undamaged, thick hair! I just had to cover some common misconceptions and a few things that I wish I knew about before I BC'ed or transitioned. Enjoy!
 
You and me both. :perplexed Some days I want it relaxed so I can go to the Dominicans and get that bangin rollerset or even get an updo or just set it at home! But, when I relax it I KNOW I will regret it, because my hair is thriving right now. I'm going to wait at least until year number two because I want to see how much better my hair can get!

Me, too. Why did you have to go and do it. I pay little attention now to people who have lots and lots of recommendations because it makes it seem like almost everything works for their hair. But with all them products you got and you took the time out to give such a strong recommendation for the Aveda. Dang, I do not need no more products! Does it help you with overall health, is it most helpful with breaking?

Just want to say that Aveda is a great product. It has contributed to my hair health and although it is expensive, I WILL be purchasing it again because it does work!
 
Great video, I hope you do a lot more...I love it when you guys get all in your bathrooms and show all of your hair products, etc.
 
I'm glad you all enjoyed the video! I just wanted people to know that I wasn't all into the "natural hair movement" or the "earthy, one with nature" stereotype. I just wanted healthy hair!!! And now, I have it! The last time I got my hair straightened, my family was like WOW, Your hair is much thicker and healthier than before! I still want all the styling options that I can get, and I am not going to run from heat or anything else, damnit!

I'm telling you, I don't understand why that line is so amazing, but it is!!! It's basically repairs your hair, and also protects it from almost any type of damage. I have very little breakage and when I do comb my hair, I rarely have anything caught in my comb. I'm retaining more length. I can't get enough of it! Do a search on here for Aveda Damage Remedy, I promise that you will have see TONS of raves for the line. I blog about it ALL the time!! I wouldn't live without it!! Here's a link to the entire set. I use the conditioner and treatment about once a week, and the shampoo maybe once every two weeks.

Loved the video, i loved how you showed all your products :lachen: keep it real girl.
Im no a real PJ having too many products overwhelms me but i'll definately consider the Aveda damage control becuase i would like to try straightening my hair one day and i really don't want damaged hair - at the moment i don't use heat on my hair at all, not that im scared of heat but im still trying to find out what products will prevent or reduce damage when heat is used.

Anyhoo thanks for sharing, very inspiring even as a natural myself.

My mama told me "go head and try, but when your real hair starts coming through Chanel, you're not gonna be able to handle it"

I did a seven month stretch in 2005 and let's just say it wasn't pretty.:lachen:And suddenly all the memories of wash day as a child came flooding back. The last memory I have of being natural was one particularly horrible wash night for my sister and I. We had waistlegnth(pressed) nappy hair and all can remember is crying throught the detangling into the wee hours of the night, and look of sympathy on my mother's face (she's half japanese with effortless hair). Like 2 days later we had curly perms...and the saga began.

I won't have cute coils or spirals or waves or anything. That gene skipped me. My hair is hard and coarse. And honestly I'm not ready for a fro. I just like the look of straight hair. I pray one day I have the guts to just let it go, especially after my last relaxer broke my BSL hair off down to the newgrowth in the nape area from the shampoo b**** not rinsing and neutralizing properly, but that's another thread. *Sighs* Sorry. Venting.

I have taken the plunge to a new healthy head of hair. I did my BIG CHOP on 2/19/2008 and I couldnt feel better.:grin::grin::grin::grin: I have freed myself of all the foolishness ladies and I am starting anew. So will be posting pics shortly. So I am a natural newbie. Anyone with info on newly becoming natural PLEASE HIT ME UP !!!!!! THANX
 
OMG. That was so helpful and inspiring. I was on the fence about going natural, especially after a "friend" of mines told me "You shouldn't go natural, because I've seen your hair nappy when I relaxed it, and I don't think that would be a good look for you." It kind of discouraged me because I consider her a clsoe friend. But I had to realize that 1) she's kind of a hater at times 2) her hair isn't past her ears and I'm almost SL so why am I listening to her? Your video definitely eased my mind and helped cement my decision of going natural. Thank you so much. =]
 
Chanel, damn. :perplexed All I can say is to take it one day at a time. I am 100% sure that I would not be natural and not have the success that I have without LHCF. So, maybe things will change. As I said in the video, I didn't have this texture as a natural child, and nobody in my family has this texture. My whole goal was to get a fresh press every two weeks. I've only had one press. Whatever the case, think it through!!! And I swear, while I was transitioning, had I not cut as I braided/weaved/wigged, I wouldn't have made it either. But, I'm not part of a natural cult!!!!!!! :peace:So don't worry, think it through, and if you decide that you don't want to go natural, you can always relax again!! If I made the decision to relax again, I want to only use Phyto relaxers, and I would do weekly rollersets. Ok, that's my schpeel.

Naturallong81-LOL...That stuff is a trip. Now, my trick is to apply and saturate my dripping wet hair with it, then rinse it out without really tampering with it.Well, I try to "stretch" my hair by acting as if I am putting it in a ponytail. Then I shake my head like a wet dog. This way, my hair isn't weighed down with it. I do it in the shower. I also do this with curly pudding. Once it runs out, I won't buy anymore. I feel like Fantasia IC does the same thing!!!

FilthyFresh-DO YOU! My new growth while transitioning was NOTHING AT ALL like my real texture. It was scab hair. It was so dry, couldn't comb through it, scraggly, omg it was awful. But, after I grew my hair out a bit, it began to soften up. So tell her to sit the hell down. I hate when people act like that toward natural hair, like having unprocessed hair is a terrible or hideous thing!
