I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted pics

I'm guilty of this...but wait, I don't have a camera. So, ummm I guess that is an excuse.:look:

But i was just thinking that we only see the people that do pic updates on fotki and how many more women have used LHCF to grow their hair out without posting pics.

On one hand, i think "Wow, is that good to come and get all this information, use it for two years to grow one's hair out and not post pics for others to have as inspiration?"

But on the other hand, I think "Okay, there are more than enough people with many varying hair textures that are showcased on LHCF through their fotki. If a newbie comes on, sees all of this and still makes excuses that "black" hair won't grow, then my fotki or anyone elses won't convince them,"

How do you all feel about this?

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I've grown my hair to WL and not posted a picture. I don't have a dig camera which is one reason why I haven't posted pic. Also, to be honest, I don't have the energy to keep a fotki updated.
I think if I were more active on the hair board as far as giving advice, I might be motivated to keep up with the pic's but since I'm not, I don't.

i don't have a dig. camera either. I don't know, I just feel like if you say your hair is X length on BHM (haven't experienced it here much) people act as if you are lying. But truthfully, I have nothing to prove to anyone but I did think it would be good for newbies to see my hair growth.

I just don't think it is that serious to get a dig. camera cause they have so many other people to be inspired by.:look:

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I don't think anyone is obligated to show pictures of their hair...or anything else. It's perfectly fine to come here and participate on the board and not keep a fotki or otherwise show pictures, no matter what your hair length. JMO. :)

I have had someone PM me here asking to see pictures of my WL hair. :ohwell: I don't know if she thought I was lying but, since I did borrow my sis's camera when I made WL I sent her one, back fat and all.

I'm sure some ppl think if there are no pictures claiming a length like WL is suspect, but like you said, I have nothing to prove to anyone. If I were all over the board giving advice, I could understand though.

Also, BMH is um, different.

wow, that just made me feel so much better. I guess I was feeling a little obligated because the myth of black hair is so prevalent.

I totally agree with your statement.:yep:

I agree with the bolded. If the numerous fotkis/pics available won't convice someone then what will?

Well, I grew my natural hair out longer than it is now before knowing that LHCF existed by patience and consistent care. The relaxed hair tips are helping me get back there. Will be eternally grateful.

When I stumbled upon LHCF learned about fotkis, the idea of having one never appealed to me. I also remember it not being a condition of LHCF membership, because honestly I would have just lurked. I am stingy with the limited free time I have, and maintaining a fotki is not my idea of fun.

I feel like sometimes too much emphasis is placed on pictures, because with due diligence one can determine if something is for them, and results are not always the same across the board. I also do not claim to be a hair guru. I know my hair best. Anything about my hair I post about could be "proven" by doing some research. I think understanding our own hair is where it's at.

I am also guilty of the no camera thing. The digital cam my Dad offered me is still sitting where I left it in his house in Dec. I guess if I remember and care then I may use it. I am a terrible self photographer, but I take a camera pic every so often for myself. I am not up to the  from my people who think belonging to a hair board means hair obsessed.

I agree. but if your hair has greatly improved, pics would be nice to see:yep: but to each their own, its not a big deal.

But there is a member hair who's hair I would love to see. I doubt she'll ever show pics though.

aside from my avatar, i've never posted a pic either. like you, i don't have a digital camera, so that's one reason. and while i don't think any of the beautifully long haired divas should feel like you HAVE to post pictures, i LOVE to see them. why? because they are inspiration. because i'm looking for those with texture like me (so i can copy their regimen ) because i like all the examples of black women, light skinned & dark skinned, with long, healthy hair, natural or relaxed. the more and more we see, the easier it becomes to shut up the nay-sayers.

but again, no one should feel like they need to "prove" that their hair is of a certain length. of course, its easier to shut up doubters with photos. but some people just need something to complain about and even with a photo won't shut up.

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I don't think there's anything wrong with not posting pictures. I wish more ladies with luscious long hair did, but - it's their choice, ya know? I don't think anyone should be pressured to take pics of their hair, and pressure to set up and maintain a fotki - *snort* - I'm uber hair obsessed, and I still don't feel like messing with fotki. And I take a LOT of hair pics, too.

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I'm kind of on the fence about this. Honestly, when someone claims a length and has no pics to back it up I don't believe them. :nono: That's the honest truth. IMO if I was waist length and beyond I would have TOO many pics of my hair! Y'all would get SICK of seeing my hair! :lachen: So, for a black woman to say that they don't want to post any pics of waist length, etc. hair makes it hard for me to believe tha they really have that length.

Now, the other side of me says that if I didn't have a digital camera I don't know if I would have a fotki. I STILL think I would occasionally take a pic or two of my hair with SOMEONE'S camera, though. Just about everyone I know has a digital camera, including teens. So, now that I think about it I think the "no digital camera" factor is an excuse. But that's just my opinion.

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I don't think anyone should be pressured. If someone says they're Wl and they're not, they're only lying to themselves. I like to see the pictures, but everyone has a right to do what they want.

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I've only very recently posted any pics of myself... and I took them down shortly after.

The reason? I'm overweight. I have stretch marks. I dress funny. And I don't want to hear any lip about it. There are some people on here who have personal issues to the point where they constantly talk smack about folks and thier appearance.

I had read something on here about doubting a person's claims of success without pics. Now, I don't have long hair (yet) as I am only APL. But I BCed down to a TWA 2 years ago and grew my hair from that TWA to APL in that time. I wondered if the comment I had read might have pertained to me... so I posted the pics just to remove doubt. Then I took them down before I had to hear any BS about jiggly arms and stretch marks.

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I wasn't directing that comment to anyone in particular, but I am directing it to anyone without pics, if you get what I mean. Joyous I do feel where you are coming from because women with low self-esteem eat at the chance to talk about other women to make themselves feel better. :ohwell: It's sad that those of us who would like to see someone's beautiful hair can't have that opportunity because of sad "women" who are eager to put someone down.

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

When I see pictures it motivates me to keep taking care of my hair

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I was lurking on LHCF for almost a year before I bought the subscription and put up photos. I always knew that I wanted to buy the subscription but before I didnt have a camera so it seemed a little pointless. I knew I wouldnt be able to participate fully without pics. I too dont have the time to do a fotki but that is why I made my myspace available. So that I could show my progress in some kind of way.

I also know that a ton of people look at this site. I have recommended it to people that ask me about my hair. Before I had 10mnts of growth I felt a little self concious I didnt want the world to see me bald...but I got over my issues with a little more length and realizing that this is more than just a hair journey. It IS a spiritual one and as such I should share it with others who may be going through the same thing.

I personally think if you can post a pic then post one, if on the other hand you cannot dont stress, itll just be a bigger badder pic when you do. Also yeah people shouldnt be pressured to do anything. I know that now that Im an official member there is a whole lot more that you get by getting a subscription and posting the pics. Lastly, I think about the one other girl/woman out there who does have a texture like mine and uses me as inspiriation. Even though we all have different type of textures, its still unique to us and the different styles that we do reflect our personalities. It also reinforces black beauty and unique-ness.

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I really think that someone who would go so far as to call you a liar b/c you dont have "proof"....needs to get a life.

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

^^I agree.

Why I gotta be a liar cuz I don't want to post my pics on the Internet?

You want me to post a pic of my high school diploma to prove I graduated from HS?

Do what feels comfortable for you. It's 10 other WL chicks that I can look at for inspiration if you don't wanna post your pics.

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I take people at their word unless proven otherwise, I'm appreciative of all the ladies who post helpful info and pics and can understand some ladies dont wish to.

Does it really have to go there? :look: OP asked a question and people have answered. It's not far-fetched for people to see proof in order to believe something. :perplexed

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I don't care what others do or don't do, but...
when I reach waist length, everbody and they momma gon' know about it....'cause I'm gonna have pictures up the ying-yang all over the freakin' Internet! :yep:

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

I'm a newbie and want to see hair. It's a hair board. No one should be commenting on your weight, looks or anything but your hair. This is not an exercise board, or skin board, etc.

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

Disclaimer: I have very short hair.

My hairline was thinning/bald & I did not want ANYONE to see my pics.SamanthaJ suggested I take them for myself. I finally posted them on the MT board & was wonderfully surprised how supportive everyone was.

I never even knew what a fotki was until I came here. Due to my caseload & teaching schedule, I don't have a lot of time, so I can't even imagine how I could manage to maintain a fotki. However, I have to admit, that it helps me tremendously to look at others' fotkis for inspiration, ideas, information & just to see. And...when someone does say they have such & such hair length, texture, etc. I will go to their profile to see if they have a fotki & am disappointed when I don't see one listed.

So I appreciate and thank all those who do maintain fotkis. Now I am no where near "any" length hair:lachen:, but I am sure if someone saw my pics when I first joined - even until now, they could be inspired? - let alone if I ever got to WL.

So I know having one helps others. Yes, it is sad that people may comment unkindly on other things, so I admire those who are brave enough to share with the world their struggles and their triumphs.

So for those who do post pics, I personally thank you. For those who don't, I understand & respect your choice. Maybe one day I will decide to do so. In the meantime I will enjoy ALL that I get from this forum.

Guilty. I'm forgetful AND lazy. Bad combination...

Girl please, I'm all those things and no one ever insults me to my face. In fact I find that the LHCF, NC and NP ladies (and guys) are the sweetest people ever. My Youtube Fam is also. It's all about angles anyway. My hair probably isn't as long as yours, but I can get hella good pictures and you don't see anything but my face, chins and my hair.

I keep telling y'all to work your angles. I don't want to see naked ladies, but if I have to deal with that to ogle your hair, I'll do it. I could care less about the background, your face, your kids, your food, your backrolls, your gucci purses, your "funny looking clothes," your spotless rooms... just show me the follicles!!!!!!!!!

Re: I wonder... How many women have grown their hair to great lengths and not posted

Bottom line it is just each individuals personal preference. Some people might not feel comfortable exposing themselves on the internet, some people just want tips and dosen't desire to reveal themselves or personal information about themselves with LHCF. It is their preogrative. Just because they don't post their pics don't mean they haven't acheived great lengths.

I agree. I don't have the time and I don't want my pictures on the internet. My hair is 10.5 inches according to the LHCF t-shirt and that's all the proof I need. Also, I have two styles I do, twist-out and buns, not very interesting. I will let the style divas take pictures of their hairstyles and I will sit back and enjoy.
