i keep trying the pin curls and they come out too tight. i'm going to try wrapping it like you did after. i always end up busting out the curlers to smooth.

well thanks for posting the pics. don't worry, if you get that pink slip, we'll start up a collection for you!!

Don't do the pin curls. Try the alternate method (invisible roller). That would give you softer bodybeautiful curls.

Ok. maybe I need to read parts of this thread but I have a ? the pin curls are the ones in the picture right? really close to your head...when you take those out don't you get indents/marks? How did you get the final look? (3rd pic)

Yes, the pin curls are the ones pictured above. I have NEVER gotten a dent in my hair in all the times i've done this (and i use to do this all the time a longgggg longggg longggg time ago

)
to achieve the final look, i combed out the curls (very important) and wrapped it in the doobie -with pins and all- for about an hour or so. When i took it down i just combed my hair back and that's how it came out.

But i should add that it comes out 1,000% better when i do the invisible roller curl and sleep on it. The curls are more loosely defined and u don't need to comb out anything. Just shake your head and go

Cleo - Thanks for the compliment

Beautiful hair CaramelHonee, it's growing very long.

Now, what's the difference between the invisible rollers and the pin curls?

I believe that invisible rollers is when you roll your hair with your finger and bobbie pin the base so that the hair stands up as though in a real roller. So my second questions is: won't the invisible rollers flatten out when you lie your head against the pillow?

Nope, it won't flatten, crinkle, etc. I do suggest you put a bonnet over your head tho 2 keep them in place while sleeping. Heck, u can even try this a few hours b4 u go out, same effect as if sleeping overnight.
BTW, as long as your hair isn't hard when u begin, u don't have to worry about it flattening.

I definitely have to try that invisible roller set!!!

It might be a more comfortable alternative to the sponge rollers I usually use...

Thanks!
I'm going to try this on my natural hair during my next straight look - never thought to comb up - always just combed back - what do you use to secure your rollers? I have the grey ones but always a little tricky to keep them tight with the white pins/sticks they come with. Any suggesitons???

I'm gonna venture into the world of roller-setting. I don't know if this was answered in this (long) thread, but do you start at the front or the back?

Thanks for the diagram!

I start in the front.

I used to start in the front but my hair is thick and almost bra strap length and by the time I got to the back it was a mess. SO I start in the back when I have more energy. If my arms are tired by the time I get to the front then at least I can see where I am messing up

I start in the front too. I do the right and left sides first (going down towards my ears) and then i do the middle all the way to the back... then i do the left side/then right.
OT: Excellence2, your hair is beautiful
