Congragulations on your Journey! This is my 3rd Time Natural and The Longest I have been natural and this time around I Am In Love with my natural hair, The first 2 times I was really lost at what to do with my hair and gave up because it was dry and I couldn't style it, Products was getting to expensive, But This time I found that I can Rollerset it and it will come out smooth, I can cornrow it and attached a fake bun, I can twist it etc.

I don't know what hair type I have I just call it Natural Nappy Hair LOL!!!!

Good Luck To You!!

Good for you! i've decided to transition too, 2 weeks post relaxer and i've decided i need to go back to natural

Congrats. I just did it again for the the second time last night. My fiance shaved me and let's just say that I'm thankful that I'm a female b/c my head's shape ain't as pretty as I thought it would be (although my sweety begs to differ). Good luck with your transitioning or big chop (which ever you choose to do).

I have a question - why do we act like relaxed and natural are on two opposite sides of the spectrum in that you can't love them both?

Its like once you go natural you CANT go back.

I dunno, part of the beauty of natural hair is the freedom it provides. I think of my natural hair like my roundtoed boots - I love 'em and they look oh-so-cute on me. One day I might go back to my pointy toes (relaxed hair) and then come back to my round toes (natural hair).

I'm just having fun with ALL of it, and learning to love ALL of it in the process.

Random thoughts - sorry for the digression.

I agree with you, MsNadi. For me, being natural relaxed is just an expression of personal style; it's NOT a way of living. It's just hair to me.

I don't think it's the "you can't go back". I think it's the "it takes AGES to grow it all back" that makes many people feel they won't go back. It's not easy. I BCed the first time and this time I'm not going to. It takes effort to transition and I honestly don't see myself making this "trip" again. If it was as simple as changing color I would say no biggie but it's not. *My* thing is the whole time spent gaining length back...makes it hard to do the flip/flop thing over and over. Some may not mind but I don't get 6" a year so I'm more careful now. Also depending onhow it affects a person's hair, you will get "can't go back" comments.

I was having trouble with feeling guilty for wanting to change my hair back and forth. But I LOOVVEE going back and forth and changing my look whenever the mood strikes.

I feel ya. I feel ya. I FEEL YA!!! My goal is to grow my hair long/big and I would feel like I 'waisted length' seeing as how I cut 4-5 inches of relaxed hair off to be natural just to turn around and relax again? AWWWW HELL NAW!!!

If I were to relax my hair today it would hang to my shoulder blades, but if I hadn't cut off those 4-5 inches then I'd be between armpit and bra-strap. I'd never stop kicking myself. :wallbash:

For the more flexible ladies who can change their hair anyway the wind blows more power to ya, but I ain't down wit da flippety floppety!

BTW - congrats saratess!:)

Thanks Ladies!!

Hopefully I can transistion longer than 3 months this time. I would like to go a year by wearing braids since my hair is short.

Wonderful. I hope the transition will be easier this time. I love being natural. Let us know if you need any support.

girl - I think you are my hair twin. And if you are, I can totally understand why you are going natural. I think about it all the time and I just simply DO NOT HAVE THE GUTS. I can't do it! I admire you soo much.

My hubby gave me his blessing after seeing me go thru some serious hair trauma. I'll be natural soon as I can find me a good stylist. I'm too afraid to cut it myself.:ohwell: Congrats on transitioning.

Because for some of us, we've been programmed that it's ALL ABOUT STRAIGHT HAIR. And there's such a mental and emotional battle about getting it long and straight that we exhaust so much money, health, self-esteem, and personal value to achieve that goal....

I admire those people who treat hair like an accessory and can flip the script on a whim. I do not know what that is like.... I hope our future females can be free of the stigmas associated with certain textures and just be free and happy.

ETA: Congrats to the OP and much success on your transition/return to natural!
