Hello Ladies!!! Here's my story.. I have been lurking this site for almost two months now trying to find answers for my "non-hair growing trouble". Currently my hair is relaxed with permanent color hair, that is about 3 inches from my root (growing out). Well this weekend was my first time out after having my beautiful baby boy two months ago, so I decided to actually airdry my hair and style it straight, I have been bunning it every single day. So anyways I proceeded to go to ULTA and buy some Keracare products after hearing so many beautiful ladies rave about it...I came home washed, conditioned with Humecto, airdried with silken seal and flatironed, and I must say my hair WAS BEAUTIFUL AND SILKY, felt like the salon, but once I felt my ends, they were SO HARD AND DRY!!!!!UGGH!! SO I gave myself a quick trim, and it helped a lilttle but not much... I truly believe my hair is overprocessed even though I just succeeded at stretching my relaxers to every 12 weeks, I just think its the combination of color and perm damage. Well to make the long story short, I wore my hair up this weekend, and yesterday I went to Sallys and purchased Roux Mendex Hair Repair Treatment, Oh, my god WHAT A DIFFERENCE :p !!!Now ladies I know that all of this colored and relaxed hair needs to just be cut off, but do you think that I can keep slowly trimming it every month or so to get rid of the damage and keep using the above named product, or do my ends have to go IMMEDIATELY!!! PLEASE
HELP!!!

BY THE WAY THIS IS MY FIRST THREAD!!!!!:D I FINALLY GOT MY SUBSCRIPTION ACTIVATED!! I AM SO EXCITED TO FINALLY BE APART OF THIS BOARD NOW.....:p

I love Mendex, as well. I use it on my hair after relaxing because of its low PH.

But, is does have alot of protein, so I have to up my moisture conditioning after its use.

I always feel that clipping slowly over time is better than chopping it all off. But, that is just because I do need some of my length for styling.

If I were you, I would start adding more moisture and trim a little bit at atime until you are satisfied with your ends.

One day you are going towash your hair and look at your ends like  because they will be in so much better condition!!!

Welcome Ms. Lepe {{{{ Hugs }}}} :) Your family picture is so beautiful. I wish each of you nothing but the rich and loving blessings of God.

Would you believe your post was an answer to a question I had tossing around in my head for a few days? God always leads me to the answers or brings them to me.

My hair has been growing like a 'weed', but I noticed my ends were a little dry, not much, but enough for me to consider another cut of at least an inch. But as Honeydew shared in her post, I also need the length for the protective style that I've been wearing (a loose bun). My hair is approaching shoulder length and I didn't want to cut that much, yet. I even prayed, "Lord what else can I do?"

Right here, the answer, gradually cut the ends and try the Mendex. I've been neglecting my ends lately, but now it's been caught in time.

Again, I sincerely thank you for your thread. You were not only helpful, but walking in 'obedience'. Keep posting, you have much to offer. :)

Loving blessings, :)

I have never had ALL of my hair colored but I have had chunky highlights along with a relaxer with no problem.
Do you think your ends were already damaged before you got the color. You explained your recent regime but maybe knowing your past regime could answer a few questions.

I think it is possible to maintain healthy, double processed hair, but it is a lot of hard work. You may have to dust off a few dead ends but as long as you perfect your regime for the future you should be able to maintain your color and relaxer.

Shimmiegirl, you truly made my day with your reply..The same thing happens to me when I am searching for a solution, and then Ouila! It apprears!! Only GOD knows!!!!:) I too have been bunning, so cutting them off would not help me AT ALL, thank goodness I found Roux, and the kind suggestions from Honeydew will hopefully help me savage my ends until I am ready to part ways with them...LOL...Thanks for the compliment on my family :) So sweet...

Hey seemingly, I know exactly what I did wrong girl, DOUBLE PROCESSED!!LOL.. I did this before I learned properly on how to apply the relaxer ONLY to the newgrowth. I recently switched to LYE, and a friend of mine told me that its okay to apply it to EVERYTHING (THE OLD NO-LYE), just this once!!!! It had to result in my overprocessed ends..Now I am cowashing every 2 days, bunning and using the baggie method, moisturizing then sealing with oil, and let me not forget deep conditioning once a week, and protein every other week...Do you think I should increase my deep conditioning??? I dont want to over do it where my ends start feel like mush, because the rest of my hair feels perfect....

Hi MsLepe, I've also been lurking around for a few months on this site and I love it too. I would treat the damage and trim my hair slowly if I was you, it will take more time to grow your hair out the way you want it but in the end I'm sure your hair will look great:D

Welcome. I agree with the other posters about trimming gradually. Also, try limiting your use of heat. You may want to consider wet sets. If you absolutely must use heat, take care not to use oils on dry hair prior to flat ironing. It can make a bad situation, worse!

Mslepe, your family is so beautiful! You will get nothing but support and the best advice from the ladies on this site.

THANK YOU SO MUCH TBROWN, AHSIAR, DYNAMIC, CRLSWEETIE AND MESTIZA for your WARM WELCOME TO THIS FORUM!!! It really makes my day to know that in all of our hair woes we are DEFINTELY not alone, and a quick click online we can get PLENTY of advice....LOL...My husband is Mexican, so I KNOW he is TIRED of hearing about BLACK HAIR..LOL  And I am gonna take yall advice and just treat the damage and keep trimming it slowly, and like dynamic said dont use oil on dry hair to combat the sizzle.LOL

I agree with you plan. Trim slowly...and treat your hair like silk as you grow out. Your hair will thank you for it.

Welcome!!!

And I agree...You and your family are gorgeous!!!! Congrats on the baby!

MsLepe:

Beautiful family! Wow!

Anyway, I have texlaxed / perm colored hair and I trim slowly, over time and only when I need it.

I own my own hair cutting shears and keep them sharp. I notice much better growth like this.

What is your natural texture?

Mslepe your regime sounds great...I wish I could be that diligent.
What do you use in between co-wash days for moisture on your ends? Deep conditioning is certainly the way to go but you also need daily moisture

When you say protein what level protein are you referring to (mild, medium or strong). Are you sure you need protein that often, because too much protein can cause your hair to become brittle and dry.
