I've never had a change in texture. If anything, I think that it is getting kinkier. But maybe I am not taking enough for all of that, I only take one or two of the GNC small dose pills.

Okay, thanks golden. I was using silica at one point a long while back and had wanted to start again. This business about hair going straight worried me though. I guess if I don't take more than I did before I should be okay.

My experience is by no means objective. I could be very wrong. All I have really is a timeline.

MSM... henna... silica. It could be all three or a long-term effect of MSM and silica is doing nothing. I had one 3b PM me and say she's 2 now and she blamed silica too. I've had a couple of of 4's say they aren't anymore.
But, like somebody else suggested, it could my hair was just dry as all get out and a little TLC made waves.

Silica does do wonderful things for skin and hair. My hair felt like it had a natural slip (nothing dramatic but I noticed). It's hard for to discourage people from taking it unless I get to run controlled tests. Ya know.

ETA: Cichelle your hair has gotten so long! Is that BSL?

 :perplexed

Anyway, I was asked a few times today if I texturized because my 4a texture seems different than before. I do henna but I think it makes my hair coilier than anything. I can only think it is because I'm finding products that agree with my hair.

Angel, I must admit your hair in the avatar looks a bit different than on pics in your July album.

I understand. It's hard to know exactly what caused it but you are giving your best guess. The thing that makes me go  is that your prior texture is not returning! But dang...your hair looks BEAUTIFUL!!!

Yeah, I'm finally at the bottom of my brastrap. The shrinkage is no joke, but it's all good. Your hair is growing fast. You'll be at BSL in no time!

Hmmm pictures from July, I don't have a July album for 2006 but I think I know what pictures you're talking about...that was right when I cut my hair and was on the road to getting it healthy again because it was a mess when I took my micros out. Well whatever it is, I'm going to keep using the henna and the products I've had success with because it must be doing something.

You would like as much as I lurk in henna girls' albums I'd have yours memorized. They're in Random Photos.

GIRL I lost my black card a long time ago!:lachen: It wasn't my fault though, it's the fear of God my grandma put in me anytime I talked with slang or an accent! She said "I don't care if people say you "talk white!' If using proper grammar is talking white then talk white all the way to the bank! I had a hard time in school for being a sell out because I "talk white" had good grades, and was in accelerated classes. It was painful growing up!:perplexed

But now I'm glad I took my grandma's advice of speaking correctly, getting good grades, applying myself and working with a spirit of excellence! Now I earn $500-$1,000 a week working 10-15 hours a week from home that increases every month. I should be at 10,000 a month withing the next 7-12 months "talking white" on the phone! Those girls that gave me a hard time...still single, on welfare, bunch of kids out of wedlock living in the same neighborhood. Never applied themselves in life, but stayed broke all in the name of "keepin' it real."

I lost my black card permanently when I married a white man!:lachen: It's all god though 'cause he lost his white card too ince he never "acted his color." He's not one of those types that "tries to be black" he just loves our culture, our music, our women, our hair, and especial out booties (which ironically I did NOT inherit but for some reason he married me anyway, flat butt and all!:lachen: Dang I'm good!:lachen:)

So here we are, 2 sell outs! I lost my black card, he lost his white card. My daughters have NO cards!

The good news is God doesn't judge us by our skin color for He chose that color when he knited us together in our mother's womb. He doesn't judge us by our hair texture, relaxed, natural, texturized, do you realize He knows the exact number of hairs on our head? Really ponder that, evertime you comb or brush you hair He knows exactly how many you shed, how many are growing in, etc. Me and Joshua picked up our Christian cards in place of our race cards and our lives have been completely transformed and have never been the same.

If by putting good things into your body, that are depleted from our soils, your texture returns to the texture God designed it to be in the first place who are they to judge you? If a person chooses to relax their hair who is anybody to say they hate themselves and are trying to be white?:perplexed Maybe they (gasp) like it that way...

Don't want to get tooo off topic, just want to say, your hair is absolutely stunning!:) Your texture is to die for (I want it now! )

Check out this book, it elped me a lot with race issues and forgiving those who judge me for who God designed me to be, in the end it's only HIS opinion that will matter anyway:

PS: Yes, I am a Bible thumpin' foot stomping, tongue speaking, Holy dancin' fool for Jesus!:lachen:
I love your comments and congratulations on your success Kbragg!!

Hi Mestiza. I didn't know that. A lot looser or a little looser?
Mestiza said:
ITA! :yep: I use henna and my waves have become looser.

Hi, Sareca!

It changed a "hairtype step down" looser. I know that I didn't word that right. Let me give you an example.

My hair was 2b/C/iii (overall) w/ some 2a waves. Now, my hair is 2a/1c/C/iii. The hair on the sides and back of my head are pretty straight w/ a "barely there" wave or two.

I just thought I'd stop by and add my $0.02.

Personally, I think you're still in the 4's category. The only reason being is because your hair looked very similar to mine when I was transitioning. The only thing that made it appear looser was the fact that I had those relaxed ends pulling it down, therefore, it was stretching out my natural texture. So, in your case, I think it's because you have it pulled back in a bun, that everything seems more defined. However, I've never seen your hair before in any other pictures, so I could be wrong....

Case and point:

I'm a 4a/b all the way, but I can still get waves.

If I didn't allow it to shrink up, it would appear looser, but when it dries, that's a different story!

*** As for that whole 'black card' thing --- some folks will still be ignorant @ the end of the day. There's nothing you can really do about that.

ITA! And great illustration too
OT: You have pretty hair!!:)

Don’t worry, Sareca, you still look like a 4 to me. :) Don’t worry about the assumptions others will make about you based on your hair/appearance. That’s just their ignorance. And I’ll tell you, I had to open my own club a long time ago!!! :lachen:

It was not so much based on my appearance, but I was raised a certain way and did not grow up speaking *ahem* “citified” like most of my peers. I couldn’t say anything without being compared to encyclopedia text (which I am unashamed to admit I read habitually). :o So, I just grew up marching to my own little drumbeat, and now I think very little of what other people think of me. Just the other day someone (in fun) called me a “Chocolate-covered White Girl.” It was an awful thing to say, but I found I just didn’t care. :D

That is so my hair! It does exactly that same thing. Let me find one of my dry hair. It still dried in a bun. I've never let it dry loose. Did your hair always do that? Mine didn't. ALL of my hair was like the back of the second picture. That's my nontrader hair.

One last question lovelymissyoli. When your out living your life, do people asking you what you're mixed with or where you're from? Or discredit your experiences because they're skeptical about your origins?

Ok, chocolated-covered white girl is just wrong.

That's definitely type 4 hair Sareca.....I don't care what 'they' say! ;)

Gimme my dang card back! *Snatches imaginary card from the air* I think I was having a hard time because I wasn't absolutely sure they were wrong.

Sorry 3c sistas, I'm going home.

I knew I could count on my girls to tell me what's up. I just love ya'll.

If the kitchen area is still a strong 4a/4b, does that count? I am 8 wks post and my hair isn't rising as it usually does. I've been on 3000 mg of MSM since 9/1/05. I increased my silica (PP brand) from 1 to 2 per day in June. I've got to say that the combo seems to be the cause. My hair is growing out straight with just a little hump in different spots:eek:

Maybe that IS it. I think I started MSM in Dec (??) and silica in March. I noticed it straightening and stopped taking silica. It didn't change much anymore. A few months later I decided, silica couldn't have done that and started taking it again. We had a bunch of threads on here about supplements not being able to change texture. I believed it. That's how I ended up with people calling it 3's. I didn't even have an argument back because I kept thinking... If that kinky fro in the middle/back is 4a (that's what I used to call it) then what's that stuff in the front/top.

My hair didn't make waves before. EVER. No matter what I did. Scarfs, gel, nothing. Nothing, but the texturizer. I had a wet kinky fro or a dry kinky fro. That's was it and I was proud. This is one of the only three things I got. I'm honored to be called nappy headed, but I must admit my hair is easier to detangle now. :ohwell:

Don't ask me why somebody else going through this helps me, but it does. But I am sorry. People don't understand until it's happening to them... :(

Sareca, There has been a request from the chat boards on what brand of silica and msm you use. Can you let us know? Thanks in advance

Ok... but you've been warned... I took BioSil silica. The first time I took the capsules. The second time I took the liquid. I took either 1 capsule or 6-10 drops. They work about the same I just prefer the liquid because I can mix it in stuff.

I took GNC brand MSM 1,500mg tablets (they were huge), then GNC brand MSM in 1,000mg capsules (same size but easier to swallow). I did that for the first 2-3 months then I got powder MSM and started taking 7,000mg/day! My periods started coming sooner and harder so I backed down to 1,000mg. That's where I've been ever since. I think it was only a 1-2 month period when I took 7,000mg. MSM doesn't have any known toxicity, actually it does but it's the same as water so I wasn't worried.

Ya'll are crazy as all get out! :lachen: Don't be sending me nasty PMs about your hair have weird straight pieces later.

I took either 1 capsule or 6-10 drops. The liquid and the capsules work the same. But I think I agree with tenderheaded. It might be the silica and MSM combo.

P.S. I got my book and my vitamin tea (sans silica) right here. :) I know I shouldn't care what people say, but it was over and over and over. It wasn't like it was 1 or 2 people. :nono: It was wearing on me.

Yes, your hair still looks 4a. You can snatch your imaginary card back now! :D

At the moment I'm not rollersetting my natural hair, but I plan to do it in the upcoming months. I really want to wear this pin-curl type style I saw, and I have no doubt that my hair can do it.

I've only been asked if I was mixed twice --- so I don't think anyone is skeptical about my lineage. Once they see my nappy hair, I'm pretty sure any questions they had are answered. I have however been asked plenty of times where I'm from --- especially when I wore a headwrap/scarf one day. I got the Islands questions a lot for some reason :look: .

Sareca, I know I'm late to the thread, but I've had the same experience. I took Vitamin Shoppe's MSM and Jarrow's biosil silica . I have straight edges and 4z nape area. I haven't had anyone ask me if I was mixed. But my braider was very confused. She's scared to braid my edges now. My texture is not as consistent as yours though. This is why I keep braids because I don't know what to do with it.

Any way your hair looks very healthy. You'll brastrap soon.
