Im starting to think my sides arent going to grow back it's been almost 4 years. Everybody who loses their hair by perms get it back withing a few months. Doctor said nothing wrong with my scalp now im starting to think otherwise i dont know what to do. I cant do nothing to my hair because of the thin sides. Im really considering giving up

Have you checked with a dermatologist? They know more than a regular doctor about skin issues. Don't give up. Try another doctor if you have to.

I read a post about Surge Hair Revitalizer 14. A couple of people said it really helped them. I tried to get some, but they don't sell it here in my area yet. I called and the guy said Walgreen's will have it in September. Have you tried it?

Dejuan, now it's me you wanna make cry. It may not be as hopeless as you think. And will you quit comparing yourself with other people? How about checking out that Nisim website. If you find something you would like to try, I'm pretty sure you can order it from there or www.dotek.co.uk And if you go online at the latter website, you can actually talk to live to someone and explain your situation and see what they say. If you do a search online for hair loss you might get some encouragement. From what I understand, hair loss doesn't have to be permanent. And you need to stop worrying and fretting. Stress can cause your hair to fall out too. So focus on improving what you have now and on finding the IDEAL PRODUCTS FOR DEJUAN'S HAIR. Perhaps you'll wake up one day and be surprised to see your hair grew back without your awareness...because for the first time you were not counting hairs, or measuring them or comparing yourself to anyone. But you were busy researching and experimenting to try and find what can make what you have look its best. If you like to read, get yourself a book called The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. If you read and practice what he suggests, you may have a more positive outlook. And it's not just Peale who says that if you believe it, you can see it. Even the Bible goes to great lengths to emphasize that (Check out Hebrews 11.) And even if all this might sound like mumbo jumbo superstitious crap to you, depression is definitely one sure way to make everything else in your life go or seem to go wrong. So you need to cheer up.
Please take heart. We are in this together, Dejuan. And it could be worse: you could be going through this without the blessing of having LHCF as a source of guidance and support. You could've gone bald and been really without any hope, short of hair implants. So count your blessings... But even if it ever comes to that, wouldn't it be better to have saved what you have now in its best condition; plus you'll have all the tools to keep any implants looking sharp. Also consider how much wiser you are today than you were yesterday. That in itself is a blessing. Then there's the fact that this board is here 24/7 so you're never alone. There is a leave-in out there that'll agree with your hair like no other. Seek it with all your heart believing you will find it. Let that be your focus right now. And any that doesn't work out, use that failure as a stepping stone. I'm sure if you do a search on this forum or any other, you'll find a story similar to yours but with a happy ending. And someday that will be your story too. So don't you dare throw in the towel!

Keep trying. I still haven't found the right products for my hair but I haven't given up hope. In fact my hair is pretty much the same length when I had a perm.
im fed up. i bought this carrot tea tree oil from organics now and it didnt change anything. My hair still feel like carpet and a broom. Yes nonie my hair is sad as it sounds. You should have seen how much hair was in my pick after i tried to comb my hair with the carrot t-tree oil my hair is ridiculous

Since they can find nothing wrong, can they prescibe something to grow it back? Have you tried Rogaine or any of the other ones? Don't give up....Maybe you need something to jumpstart your growth...then you can maintain it.

Have you tried using Sage tea as a rinse? I don't know if Minoxidil is the only hair grower out there (that's what's in Rogaine). The problem with that is that once you start using it, you have to keep using it coz if you stop, you will lose the hair you grew from using it. Also the hair grows back very fine...which is probably better than nothing at all; but don't forget once you start, there is no quitting so cost may become a factor. I found a thread on which I quoted something about hair loss from one of my favorite reference books, Prescription for Nutritional Healing. Maybe something in that excerpt might be of help.

Have you tried massaging your sides with Vitamin E oil? Maybe it'll help... I used to do that when I had this quarter size bald spot (from a relaxer touch up gone wrong) and it helped a lot.

Dejuan, perhaps you could order online? Mountain Rose Herbs is a great source for essential oils. And this website has a recipe and directions for use.
Or if you prefer to order a ready made concoction, here ya go . The direction on this website don't say use a plastic cap but everywhere else I've read, the wearing a cap overnight after applying the oils is recommended.
For what it's worth, I'd go with Mountain Rose Herbs coz I have heard great things about their products and I think it's pretty cool to know how to make your own aromatherapy remedies. Let us know which you choose and how it goes.

2 drops cedarwood
3 drops lavender
3 drops rosemary
2 drops thyme
1/2 teaspoons jojoba oil
4 teaspoons grapeseed oil

Check out Riquette's books and products. Someone posted two of the recipes on another board:
Riquette’s Basic Stimulator
Apply every night.
6 teaspoons rosemary oil
3 teaspoons basil oil(if available; otherwise use 2 teaspoon of rosemary oil)
3 teaspoons lavender oil
2 teaspoons lemon oil
Put the oils into an amber bottle with a glass dropper top.
Close tightly and shake well to mix. Label.
Pour two teaspoons of Basic Stimulator into a glass bowl.
Massage into your scalp with your fingertips. Divide you hair into small sections at the hairline and work from the forehead to the crown
Concentrate on the areas of balding, and then distribute the remainder over the rest of the head, hairline and ends of the hair.
Leave the Basic Stimulator on your head overnight.
Most of the oils will have been absorbed by your hair and scalp, so you need not be concerned about getting oil on your pillow. If you still want to play it safe, cover your pillow with a terry cloth towel.
In the morning, wash out with the Hair and Scalp Shampoo or your favorite shampoo. The Basic Stimulator is a nightly treatment.
Riquette’s Super Stimulator
Apply once a week.

½ teaspoon castor oil

hey, i actually had the same problem, when i used to perm my hair, my sides would always break off and the top of my hair doesn't grow that long without breaking off until i finally figured it out. I had to grow out the relaxer. I fortunately live in los angeles, where finding a person to press your hair is readily available and they do it well enough that it stays straight for two weeks...if you go that long... the thing is if i where you i would start by keeping my hair braided, but not the tiny braids its too much stress when i put small braids in my hair it would break off a lot, so i had to put the bigger braids and keep my scalp oiled and not leave them in longer then 6-8 weeks max.. or the breaking would start.. it just sounds to me like you have a sensitive scalp, and it needs to stay clean and oiled. I wash my hair about once a week, one week i go to the salon and then the other week i wash myself, and press, but not as good as the salon, but i can't go two weeks without washing my hair my scalp gets too dry.. anyhow, i would do the braid thing for about 6 months just keep getting it braided every few weeks, and then give it a rest... but in my opinion the small braids pull too much and if you have a sensitive scalp by the time you take them out you will have globbs of hair coming out with the braids.. but the first step for me to get my hair to grow was taking out the relaxer.. the back of my hair is almost to the middle of my back now... the front still has issues but my sides that would never grow are now to my shoulders... so give it a try... it took me about two yrs to get it this way, so you have to have patience, it doesn't happen over night.. good luck

The essential oils mentioned here are helpful, for they do work. I have a more defined hairline because of them. Also, at nights, I would pop a Vitamin E capule and rub the contents on the hairline.
My question is how often do you perm your hair? Do you wear a satin scarf at night while you sleep?

Home Remedies
Several home remedies have been found useful in the prevention and treatment of hair loss. The most effective among these remedies is a vigorous rubbing of the scalp with the fingers, after washing the hair with cold water. The scalp should be rubbed vigorously till it starts to tingle with heat. This will activate the sebaceous glands and energise the circulation of blood in the affected area, making hair growth healthy.
Amla oil, prepared by boiling dry amla pieces in coconut oil, is considered a valuable hair tonic for enriching hair growth. A mixture of equal quantities of fresh amla juice and lime juice used as a shampoo stimulates hair growth and prevents hair loss.
Lettuce (Salad ka patta) is useful in preventing hair loss through deficiencies. A mixture of lettuce and spinach juice is said to help the growth of hair, if drunk to the extent of half a litre a day. The juice of alfalfa (lucerne) in combination with carrot and lettuce juice, taken daily, also helps the growth of hair to a remarkable extent. The combination of these juices is rich in elements which are particularly useful for the growth of hair. While preparing alfalfa juice, the leaves of the plant only may be used, when they can be obtained fresh.
Daily application of refined coconut oil mixed with lime water and lime juice on the hair, prevents loss of hair and lengthens it. Application of the juice of green coriander leaves on the head is also considered beneficial. Amaranth, (chauli ka saag) is another valuable remedy. Application of its fresh leaf-juice helps the growth of the hair and keeps it soft.
Mustard oil, boiled with henna leaves, is useful in promoting healthy growth of hair. About 250 grams of mustard oil should be boiled in a tin basin. A little quantity of henna leaves should be gradually put in this oil till about 60 grams of these leaves are thus burnt in the oil. The oil should then be filtered through a cloth and stored in a bottle. Regular massage of the head with this oil will produce abundant hair.
Another effective home remedy for loss of hair is the application of coconut milk all over the scalp and massaging it into the hair roots. It will nourish the hair and promote hair growth. Coconut milk is prepared by grinding the coconut shavings and squeezing them well.
Washing the hair with a paste of cooked black gram dhal, (urad dhal) and fenugreek (methi) lengthens the hair. A fine paste made from pigeon pea or red gram (arhar dhal) can also be applied regularly on bald patches, with beneficial results. Regular use of castor oil as a hair oil helps the luxuriant growth of the hair.
Certain home remedies have also been found useful in case of patchy loss of hair. The seeds of lime and black pepper seeds, ground to a fine paste, is one of the valuable remedies. This paste applied on the patches, has a mildly irritant action. This increases blood circulation to the affected area and stimulates hair growth.
