Ladies, I am trying to use all my PJ products and I was thinking hmmm, I didnt like this conditioner maybe with some added oils it will be aight :perplexed...

Anyways, what I didnt know and now I am a believer is using the sprush to apply conditioner like a relaxer...wow ....that application method is the truth!!! Time consuming with new growth but worth it in getting conditioner on every strand!!!

What are somethings you didnt implement or think was a good idea or method til you tried??

Pre-pooing. I kept hearing about it, but always found the whole process kind of redundant. Now though, I can't imagine NOT doing it.

AryaStarr258 I am into prepooing although I dont do it often. Do you have a favorite conditioner or mixture?

I've been between using Suave's Almond and Shea butter conditioner recently, but I usually use my mix of shea and mango butter, EVOO, Castor oil, Coconut oil, Jojoba oil, and Gylcerin. Both do an equally good job, but the PJ in me is always on the hunt for new things. What do you use??

Yummy!!! Today I mixed some H20 hair milk with wheat germ oil and a plash of AVJ and some coconut oil. I am under the dryer now (prepooing, DC at the same time, lol) , but I am officially in love with using the sprush when I applied it. I have some ish to use up so I am taking all the not so great conditioners and putting them aside and I think that wheat germ oil, coconut and AVJ will be my additives....and I will use them to prepoo.

Side note...dang I forgot about adding some EVOO...thank you!!!

Yes. This color brush method helped me develop a better habit of covering every strand, and now I no longer need the brush. Getting every strand has made a huge difference for me.

And oil rinsing with amla oil= little/no tangles for my heat trained natural hair. Some of my conditioners also leave me with no tangles when my mois./protn balance is in check.

Let me add

**lead hairs - I was lead to believe that they needed to be cut, the thread on them has me believing that I can keep them and the rest of my hair may just catch up!!! I am willing to wait and see

**sulfur for growth - I wouldnt have ever thought it, Ms NJoy made me a real believer I am going for the gusto with it!!!

The most important one...how could I forget....I didnt know but I am a believer....that any woman of AA decsent can have long heathly hair relaxed, texlaxed or natural, this board has shown me many of things and this one is the best!!!

I did the brush-like-a-relaxer thing for a while. You're right, its time consuming. Now I put my conditioner into a haircolor applicator bottle and use the nozzle tip to make parts and apply conditioner. Also makes it eay to mix in oils and whatnot, just pour in and shake!

I have to agree with applying my conditioner just like a relaxer. That has been the best thing I have done. Every strand coated.

allmundjoi are you using regular castor oil or the JBCO? I bought a bottle of JBCO from a local health food store but I couldnt image using it and rinsing it out, school me, please.

SunySydeofLyfe I use Home Health Cold & Cold Processed Castor Oil. I thought the same thing @the thickness of the oil. I section my SL hair into four, wet it, add a nickel size amount to each section-butter soft hair. Rinse with hot water then conditioner wash.

Applying conditioner like relaxer! Me too.

Also,

DCing on dry hair
Co-washing
Coconut oil pre poos

Tea rinsing

I've had so many revelations since finding LHCF.

-Oil Rinsing

-Herbal Tea Rinses

-Organic/Natural/Ayurvedic products as opposed to the usual chemically-laden commercial brands. I LOVE me some Ayurvedic oils and powders. And AO I have slept on for a while since originally buying a bunch of stuff in like 05, but I'm back on it hard.

I remember when I went from strictly using commercial chemical products like Nexxus, (old line)Creme of Nature, and Profectiv to AO when I was relaxed, and my hair and scalp had a totally NEW life and feel the FIRST TIME I used them. I still use some commercial cond. and gels like HE, Garnier, Loreal, Suave, but the majority of my products are natural and Ayurvedic.

-Ceramide Oils

-Protective Styling (been on this heavy for the last 6 yrs...I used to ALWAYS wear my hair down)

-Wigs as a PS

-"Chemical-free" hair color (Bigen Oriental Black has been my joint since early 04, and I tried my old flame Dark N' Lovely Midnight Blue recently...blah, going back to Bigen)! I know Bigen has PPD but it lasts a LONG time and is healthier for my hair than ammonia and peroxide.

-Sulfur as a growth aid (have used very long time, but I can't imagine kicking it...ever).

-Going natural! (I'll be 1 year kinky in Jan. 2012, and now I don't even LIKE straight hair on me. The only time I get the straight look is through wigs and weaves, as I don't straighten or rollerset my natural hair. It is just kinky/curly/coily and frizzy at times, but I love it). ;o)

@InBloom tell me about molassas

Sent from my SPH-M820-BST using SPH-M820-BST

"Blackstrap" Molasses. I get mine from Whole Foods.

I watched several youtubers using this as a pre-poo treatment, then saw a few threads on LHCF.

I use a good sized amount mixed with a moisturizing conditioner and oil of my choice. Mix well to look like milk chocolate, then apply to my hair all over as a pre-poo. I let that sit for an hour or so. When I'm finished, I'll lightly shampoo, or just cowash it out. Afterwards, I have very shiny hair that seems to be strengthened. There's been a debate on whether this is a protein type of thing on LHCF. I think not though.

Its a little messy in application, but I'm in love with the results. I think I see better results when I cowash it out vs. shampoo-ing. :lick::yep:

For me, it was:

- Deep conditioning with heat (DCing overnight worked, but sitting under the dryer for 30 minutes took it to entirely different level)

- Using ceramide oils (decreased my need for protein treatments and helps me maintain a consistent moisture-protein balance)

- Detangling before shampooing & DCing (removing tangles and shed hairs allows the remainder of the process to proceed more effectively)

- Using only keratin and collagen-laden products for protein treatments (strength + elasticity = some very happy fine hairs)

Wow Jewell
We have a lot of the same stuff: sulfur, wigs, ceramides, PSing, increasing ayurveda/natural products and going natural.

I'd like to add fingerdetangling/low to no combing/brushing and banding. Both help to keep away split ends and knots for me.
