I was soo very upset with how my transition is going, i've given my hair a break from braids for 2 months now, my hair feels so dry and hard, my scalp keeps hurting and itching me all the time. I don't get much growth and its almost one year without a relaxer. i really feel like getting a texturizer to make my hair more manageable. i don't think i can put up with the different textures anymore, i don't want to BC either. i'm so misersable it doesn't help that i'm ill also. I'm literally going nuts, just need some comforting words.

Hey Den!

I'm sorry to hear you're so sad and frustrated, though I can definitely understand. I think a tex. at this point is a bad idea since your hair is itching and hurting all the time. Maybe it would be worth it to cut back on your hair supplements and give your scalp a break? How often are you washing your hair? Could you be manipulating it too much? Did you try the ACV rinse for the itchiness or see a dermatologist, yet??

Your hair is so beautiful-shiny, long and wavy/curly! You have to hang in there. You're such an inspiration to so many people :)

ITA! Den you are a major inspiration for so many including myself! I think that your illness could be getting the best of you. You'll feel better soon!:) How's the weather over there? Is it winter there too? THat may attribute to the dryness. Going outside to face the harsh winds and coming inside to face harsh artificial heat...that can lead to excessive dryness. I remember a thread about a year or two ago where people where investing in humidifiers because they help normalized the skin and hair conditions in harsh cold weather. You may have to ease up on the vitamins too, your skin could be itching because your body is cleansing itself from toxins...I had a bad case of this while taking biotin! I broke out all over! If you don't think the vitamins are the cause of itches then maybe you should see a dermatologist to figure out what the problem is. I hope you do get better, I know you'll find a solution to your hair setbacks!:) Please update us and let us know!;)

I joined LCHF after you'd gotten your texturizer---why are you transitioning back to natural from the texturizer?

I stopped taking supplements for a while, i can't seem to stay consistent with anything now. I wash my hair once-a week, sometimes once every two weeks, i normally use conditioner. I have been taking down my hair and having it combed more often than usual, so far i've done two conditioner washes with vo5 and i use world of curls gel and coconut oil+ my homemade moisturiser. i also did a henna treatment, foolwed by nexxus humectress which has done nothing for my hair. I've tried the nioxin for the itchiness it helped temporarily, haven't seen a derma yet. as soon as i get my scalp sorted out, i may texturize, i never had a problem with my scalp when relaxing, only if i got burned. thanks for your advice

Sorry to hear this Den1, but I am sure that it would all pay off in the end, you have beautiful texture of naturaly hair. I think that if you hang in there, you would be happy with the results. :)

Hi Alli77, thanks for the support, the weather over here is really cold and horrible now, i'm not sure if it really is the weather, affecting my hair or a hormonal imbalance, since i suffer terribly from peroids and tend to lose iron, quite quickly. its difficult to pinpoint main the main reason why my hair and scalp is reacting thuis way. I hope its not my mind going funny or something? I've stopped taking vits for a while now, because i stuggle with remainig consistent. I think i'll should probably see my doctor too find out whether i'm deficient in vits. I'll update on how things go.

ITS A LONG STORY....I'll cut it short. I went to two diffrent stylists who texturized my hair wrong. i ended up with underprocessed curls and straight hair, this was such a nightmare for me that i had no option but to transition then start over again.

You know what girlfriend - you are one of the biggest hair inspiration on this board and you are always there to help out in so many ways. I know that what you are going through right now is just a phase, and it will pass. Don't do anything hasty - remember, our hair has cycles so maybe you are going through one right now. Also, the Winter time is when you need the braid more than anything. There is no hair advice I can give because you know it all but all I can recommend is that you use minimal products and for me, carrot oil helps alot with dryness. I felt so touched when I saw your headline that you cried this morning so I sincerely hope that the situation will turn around and you will feel motivated once again.

Thanks, i'm trying to hang on, but i don't think i have the strength anymore. it would help a bit if i could have my hair braided at least i won't have to do anything much to my hair.however my scalp is too tender for them.

If it's a iron deficiency then that would definitely explain the dryness and having a hard time with the growth, not to mention the periods...if you are low on iron then you can have really bad periods and you probably get sick and feel weak all the time. You should see a doctor and if your not into pills you can eat foods that are vitamin rich, I've been investigating liquid vitamins lately because like you I'm not big on taking pills.

I suffer a lot from weakness during and after periods, i always get cold hands and feet too, i notice that when i exmaine under my eyelids they're often quite pale pink. well i'm going to make an appointement with my GP then. thanks for your help ladies

Everytime I get discouraged I look at pics of ladies who are transitioning... People like DEN1, and I'm not just saying this to make you feel better.

Have you ever thought of buying a Maxiglide? I know that you probably went natural to stay away from the heat but this has been helping me a lot (It's the truth).

Also conditioner washes every morning for like 5 minutes then pulling it in a ponytail or bun. I take a comb with me in the shower and style it in there and put my oils and moisturizers in the shower too...

Just giving you options.

Hang in there!! It's hard to go from "unnatural" to natural because it was so easy, but it will get better once you learn what works for you naturally.

(I wouldn't have written so much if I didn't love you hair and use it as an inspiration.. so I just want to thank you Den)

Low iron can cause hair loss too. I have first hand knowledge of that one. Den, if I were you I would bun it up and leave it that way until the next wash. Little to no manipulation until you can get your hair and scalp back on track. Maybe you could baggie at night as well to keep your ends moisturized.

I agree with ALLi77 and SimplyCee; Also, I think a nice very warm EVO oil treatment with a little camphor oil would soothe your hair, scalp and your soul. Leave it on overnight, shampoo out in morning, and do a good AVC rinse, then oil the ends with EVO and frenchbraid one long braid, wrap your hair in silk or satin and fuhgetaboutit!!! The weather, your illness, and Not feeling in control of what is happening with your body, hair and health is dragging you down, so just lie back and heal and your hair will be alright Den1. Don't cry anymore honey. Bonjour

IA! I really don't think you should texturize right now if your scalp is bothering you. Adding chemicals could make the problem even worse right now. Can you do loose twists or cornrows to your hair. Maybe if you are gentle and take your time, it won't hurt you?

Ita when my hair is too sore from the biotin or itching i just rinse it to get some relief. you could get cornrows and forget your hair for 3weeks i m in cornrows now because sometimes i m tired of everything and massage some soothing oils where it itch, spray it and trust me washing the hair is very soothing but i think some cornrows while u dont feel well would keep your mind off of your hair for at least 2-3weeks than you rebraid until you willing to deal with it its almost winter anyway check with a doctor but you should also take at least multivitamins to avoid any lack and get some rest too and get well and dont do anything too hasty

I hope you feel better very soon. Don't make any big decisions yet while you are ill. Do you oil your scalp? I agree with Mahalialee4 about the warm oil suggestion....I personally can't use EVOO because it makes me itch terribly but I do use jojoba and it works nicely. I also agree with Rai about doing the loose twists, they don't have to be tight, I've done them loose before and just put them in a high, loose bun. Just something so you can focus on resting and getting better.

Keep us posted! :)

Thanks Eiano your very kind. I think i may conditioner wash again, have my niece blow it out then have it in a style where, my scalp won't feel as sore.

Den, I'm sorry that u are not feeling well. Please don't give up in your transition. I lightly texturized my hair and boy, am I regretting my decision. Your hair and your album has always been an inspiration to me. :) Hope u get well soon! You're so close to your goal!

 sending you lots of love. Your hair is soooo beautiful, wavy and dark and it looks very heathly.

I suspect that i'm low in iron amoungst other nutrients, my doctor has prescibed me iron in the past due to blood loss, I'll due for another consultation soon so i can get things sorted out. I've actually been wearing buns for the last few weeks, i find that when i take it down and comb i lose a lot of hair. I have use protein and it often results in coaser and unmaneable hair, none of my deep conditioners work anymore, i don't do them often because of this reason..I'll try the baggie method at my next wash. thanks for your help

Mahalialee4: this hot oil treatment sounds so good the way you described it. i have some camphor at home, and EVVO. When my niece comes to visit i'll, ask her to add this treatment, i'm fed up of handling my hair this moment.
rai: I won't add any chemicals yet, until my scalp problem is sorted.
ekomba: i'm running wawy from braids at the moment as it will pull at my scalp, which is already irrtated by itching. Thanks ladies for the advice, i knew i count on you.

Why did you decide to texturize again? i thought you were enjoying your naturally curly mane, i would like to see pics of your hair. thanks for encouraging me to stay strong.

I don't usually oil my scalp, but recently i've started using MTG and coconut oil. i'm not sure about doing my whole jead in twidsts, because of my natural roots my hair is really puffy looking. I will certainly do the EVVO treatment. thanks

Thanks for all the encouragement and support ladies. i do hope i'll feel better soon and get to the bottom of my hair issues I update on my progress in the near future.

I feel you Den but don't give up it's just your scalp going through creamy crack withdrawl
been there, I used to use seabreeze to stop the itching dont do that-it makes the scalp more dry.
If you do a clarifying rinse with ACV use some whole mayonaise like from the market and load up your hair with it after the ACV and let it sit with a plastic cap on. The pics you have in your siggy look good to me, keep your head up, as you see the ladies here on LHCF got your back.
