I am very jealous of you ladies

Interesting that you say that Glam. I use serums....what do you use for heat protectants, etc in place of serums?

My hairdresser used a spray on heat protectant before blow drying. I tried a spray on one before when I blew my hair out at home and it worked better. I used the pink fantasia one. Also a blow dry creme worked good for me too. For some reason with the serums I felt like they were keeping my hair from straightening all the way.

Looking good Bre Bre! :yep::yep:
You're looking like a cousin to me up in this siggy pic...

Mona........you hit the nail on the head!... LOL.... I was just looking at her siggy pic thinking damn that hair look like family.

I have that problem of poofiness, but that ended once I went to a stylist and learned how she got rid of my big poof to get more of the length to show.

Shampoo - Conditioner - Detangle - Rinse - Deep Condition for 20-30 minutes - Rinse - Leave In - Air dry or to speed process under dry for 10-15 minutes - HOT HOT BLOW OUT ON THE HAIR with a heat protectant - then light flat iron and I'm good to go

She said the key is to use minimum products on the hair, protect the hair when using the heat and my hair turned out great. Siggy pic is when she did my hair I was 2 weeks post. Fotki pics show more of my thickness and some of my failed attempts of a flat iron.

I don't have any advice to give you Bre, but I just wanted to say that you shouldn't be jealous. There are many out there who are jealous of you too and would love to have that beautiful, thick, luscious head of hair that you have:yep::yep:

Who get your hair nice and straight and it actually sits on your back. Ever since I went natchal my hair hovers around me like a cloud when straightened. A puffy brown cloud.

How do you ladies make your hair "heavy" so it hangs and doesn't hover?

Am I making any sense? Anyone else's hair like this. I wonder if this means I have fine hair...

THis is exactly what my hair does and I have thick coarse strands. It didn't used to do that before I found the hairboards and started doing all of this conditioning etc... My hair wasn't as soft and straightened easier. I want to keep the softness but the fluff I can do without.

My hair is fine and it hangs. It might be one of your products. I've found that serum makes my hairy fluffy/poofy. That's why I don't like it.

Hmm I have been using serums as well. I tried redken smooth down and it seemed to make it worse. I'm going to try a spray.

Hi Bre,, is it possible that you arent straightening your hair throughly enough??... if the hair isnt truly straight its more likely to fluff up.. Also do u have a lot of humidity where you are? No matter how fine your hair it should lay down,, it could be the length or thats its over soft,,, i would deliberately try to weigh it down with serum or oil and also try to get it straight

i have thick (not fine) strands, but my hair reverts easily. i can have my hair stick-straight and walk out of the house on a day with only 20% humidity in the air... POOF. :lachen:

serums are the devil i tell you!!! :look: i use a heat protectant spray by Silk Elements. also i've found that using a flat iron with 100% ceramic plates (not just ceramic coating) will get your hair straight on a lower setting and KEEP it straighter, longer. something about it how it doesn't pull all the moisture out of your hair, therefore your hair isn't sucking the humidity out of the air and causing the POOF factor. also if i know it's going to be humid out, i will use A VERY MINUTE AMOUNT of Aveda's Anti-Humectant Pomade. too much will make your hair feel "greasy" but a little bit will help keep it from reverting.

HTH and best of luck! :yep:

That happened to me too! I usually use the pink fantasia spray and my hair hangs way more... the only downside is its too flat up top. But the last time i straightened with chi silk infusion and it was so light... at the time i couldn't understand so i ran the flat iron through again to make sure (prolly not the best soluton :ohwell:) and it was still all "cloud-like"

I feel like I am but since the ends are course/curly/etc it's hard to do it without swiping the flatiron 50-11 times.

Thank you for the tips! I will ditch the serum and try a spray in heat protectant.

Bre, are you trying castor oil? You may be one of those people who needs a heavy moisturizer. My hair is poofy when I try to straighten myself, but it gets very straight when I get it done professionally.

Your hair also looks like it still has layers in it, so that would give you more volume as well.

Yes, I have home made layers from all the "trimming" i did over the last couple of years

I can't use castor oil before flat ironing can I? Won't it cook my hair? And yes it's poofy when I do it, but when I used to get it done they were able to make it straight. Well, then again I was permed when I was getting it done too...

ok, bre bre. i finally got a camera today (still trying to figure out sizing though)..

AND on second thought, i don't think my hair looks like yours (darn i initially thought i did ):ohwell:. but i did attempt to press it today and put in the bun, included photo of the broken detangle comb:grin:.

Did you say you used Redken Smooth Down?? This stuff is soooooo heavy,, it may not be allowing the heat to penetrate through..... I feel like ive been where you are and had this issue at some pt,, I have this URGE to do your hair cuz i feel so confident i could make it lay down and not cloudlike but bouncy:grin:

I do, but not a lot, and I haven't had any cooked hair problems. I flat iron on low heat. I think that there are other ladies on here that use castor oil as well.

I am definitely getting rid of the redken heat glide. Next time I straighten I will try a spray protectant. And errumah, if you are in Los Angeles you are free to hook a sistah up anytime

That poor comb never had a chance :lachen: I can't really see the pics due to the size but what I can see is some majore bling (shine)!!

:wallbash: I wish I could multipost!

Anywho, I do have some castor oil here. Maybe next time I will add just a smidgen before I start flatironing. I just want my hair to have weight to it.

Well you may be jealous of them, but I for one, am jealous of you! LOL I'd take that "poof" any day!! Your hair has gotten much thicker and longer since I last seen your pics in your siggie. That siggie and avatar pics you're sporting now, looks awesome!

That comb sure didn't:look:. I have to figure out how to do sizing, it either too big or too small :ohwell:-last time I had the scroll bar warning.

For my next press, I am going to go to a professional to get it flat ironed soon and see if that works.

Good luck to you to in trying to figure out what it will take.

But really, I like you hair as it is...it looks very full and healthy:yep:!

Also make sure you do a nice creamy leave-in.
You can also try mixing a little serum with your leave in if you're worried about frizz.

I don't use anything to make it "heavy". Actually, I don't like heavy. I use as little product as I can. I make sure I don't use anything with petroleum, petrolatum, mineral oil, etc. etc. Generally, while wet & after a good leave-in conditioner, I use a good serum like Frizz Ease, coconut oil on my scalp w/ a little through the length then... All I do is once my hair is dry (blow dry or air dry) I make sure to use a good heat protectant and an excellent flat iron on the correct temperature for my hair. I start in small, thin sections, begin at the back of my head (nape area) and work forward and take my time. The right heat setting and small sections from the back should work. My flat iron is also not wide, it is about only 1". Try it see if it works.
