I AM TOO OLD???????

Don't let your friend doom you to the 2 in. long "hair helmet" The BSS are selling weave like it's the second comming- why shouldn't you grow your own???

Age is just a number - be the best "you" that you can, and come grow with us:yep::yep::yep:

I don't understand where this "too old" thing comes from. This isn't the first time I've read this on a hair board or even IRL. What factors decide that a person is too to try to grow their hair or to have long hair? It's never too late for that. As long as it's growing, you have a right to nurture it. If your hair journey was supposed to "end" because of age, it seems like it would just stop. I'm 27, and you can say I really started my hair journey about 2 years ago, when I went natural. Good luck to you! :-)

Well this thread has helped me too. Idk why but I had this nagging feeling too that maybe I'm too old and what's the point b/c now I'm 30 (I started last summer- 6 mos before my 30th bday) and I guess just getting discouraged. I've heard too that short hair is for older women. LOL, one of my close friends from work is 47 and has WL hair.

I like what one of the ladies said about growing her hair and having something to look forward to when she turns 40.

I definitely don't believe that everyone should chop off their hair when they're 40. It all depends on your preference, not something that should be forced. My grandma passed away in her 90's and she was waist length. She wore her hair in a bun the entire time and I always thought it looked nice on her. I have every intention of having tailbone length hair when I hit 40. Whoever doesn't like it will get one karate chop to the neck

Flava Flav says "wooooow". I'm suprised at some of the ages revealed in this thread. Y'all look good :yep:.

OP, you are not too old to start your hair journey. You'll be suprised what even one year of LHCF will do for you........ and you may want to cut that "friend" out your hair life.

I have heard all too often that a woman should have short hair after she reaches a certain age. I do not believe this. I think a woman of "a certain age" (40+) with long, well conditioned, beautiful hair is very, very sexy.
don't let people make you think otherwise.
If you want to start your hair journey at the "ripe old age of 27", by all means do. I am 47. I am between SL and APL (closer to APL) and I don't think that I will ever cut my hair because I'm considered too old by some people. Like one of the other ladies said in an earlier response to this thread, be the best YOU that you can be. If that includes long hair, go with it.

40 this year and just started. As a matter of fact, it was the upcoming 40 that put me on the journey. I wanted to cut it off, but hubby asked me to grow it out.

I am 44, and I started my healthy hair journey last October. You are not too old to do this or anything. Except to go to pre-school. Lol. I always have to make jokes. Sorry. Lol

But really. Girl go and do your hair!

i had no idea you look great!

Started my journey at 32 and never for a second thought I was too old to start taking care of my hair the right way.. but thats just me:)

I'm turning 29 in a month :look:

Don't let the opinions of others sway the way you really feel. There are tons of older women out there with long hair and it looks good on a lot of them. Just do what feels good to you! It's only hair. If you find that you don't like it past a certain age, cut it!

By the way, 27 is NOT old :perplexed:perplexed

This is an interesting thread because it brought back memories of a stylist who told me I would "never have long hair again" because I was too old. This was back in 2006 when my hair was shedding everywhere due to bleach/highlighting and I was only 30. I immediately stopped going to her because she didn't have the same vision or belief in my hair goals.

It's taken a bit of trial and error, but I'm now a healthy BSL and proudly 33 years young. :-)

I will be 4-0 this year and my hair is mid back - goal is waistlength by end of year. When I opened this thread, I thought I 'd be talking to one of my peers. 27 IS NOT OLD!!

No, you're not!!! I better look that young when I'm 44...

...And ITA with the other ladies, 27 is NOT old. Besides, I'm coming up behind you on that age:rolleyes:, I'd rather not be considered old. :lachen:

I started at 39... I've been on my HHJ for 16mos so far...and I'm enjoying every minute of this journey.

That's what I thought too! I feel that the older you get the more right you have to decide what you want out of this life--and if long hair is one of those things then by all means, you deserve it. We work too hard and pay too many dues to have someone else tell us what is right for ourselves!

I've been here for two years and just made 39. I WILL finally have APL hair for my 40th birthday! I WISH I had started at 27!

In what world is 27 old? I'm 22 and you're only 5 years older than me. You were a baby at around the same time I was, lol. You have plenty of time to reach your hair-care goals. You're still at your prime, girl. I wouldn't say this to you if you were 30, though. You know the saying "Never trust anyone over 30" :look:....

I'm 44 and been on this journey for 3 years. Still trying to get to Armpit. ah... it will be a while but I am not giving up. There are some ladies on here in their 60's so you are at a great age. Welcome aboard - trust me you fit in just fine.

You're only going to get older so you might as well grow your hair!

Check out Lynnie B's album. Her hair is thick and luscious and she's over 40.
