OK the Maxiglide. It is good, it's very good, but damnit it's like the lesser of two evils with the heat and relaxer. That MG lets off some serious heat/steam. Again, nice for occasion, but when my hair was relaxed I barely curled (or used heat on it.) Ok this thread is revving me up for the plunge  .

Let us know how the MG works.

Dont relax bubblin!!! You can get beautiful full wraps from pressing or flat ironing. My hairdresser really takes care of the hair, so I still have ALLL my curls. Find someone you trust!

Natural or relaxed, I'm sure your hair will be inspirational.

What were some of the reasons you transitioned to natural initially? If there were problems, do you think they will still be problems?

Either way, I'm sure your hair will be beautiful. Good luck. :)

Nope, my natural hair isn't hard to manage, styles are not redundant nor limited, and no I am not tired of being natural. It's just that I miss doing those 'body wraps,' you know, the style where you roller set your hair on big rollers, sit under the dryer, comb it out, then wrap it around again to knock some of the curls out. When it's time to wear the style, the hair is so full of bounce and body and chunky curls! I really do miss doing this style and this is the only reason I am thinking about relaxing. I know being natural has versatility, but so does being relaxed. I just needed to tell someone how I feel and I know you ladies are not judgemental about hair woes, so there you go.

Girl, that is exactly how I felt after I went natural for the first time. I went for like 2 years and then one morning I woke up wanting a silky/curly flexi rod set. Everytime I saw a woman w/ the style I was saddened. So I got my relaxer and my flexirod set and i was happy. My touch up date came up and I didn't get it...I avoided a touch up for four months and then woke up and cut all my hair off back to square one....how I wish I never got the relaxer....but oh well. Just think about everything that encompasses having a relaxer not just the style that you miss. Good luck w/ whatever you decide!

No problems with relaxed hair( except for the fact that my styles would never last :wallbash:). I decided to transition after doing searches on line about natural hair. I viewed several albums and one day at work, it just hit me- I wanted to go natural.

Funny you start this thread 'cause I just came from Duane Reades. I brought 2 relaxers and I plan on using them tonight. Why did I feel like I was sneaking??? Like I did not want anyone to see me staring at the relaxer, putting the kit in my basket and paying for it! :lachen: I'll post some pics soon.

You're right about folks here not being too judgemental with decisions like yours. People have been very supportive of my transitioning and I could not have asked for any more understanding.

Good luck with whatever you decide. You'll look beautiful either way.

:Rose:

did you really relax your hair???????? I too am thinking about relaxing...or rather just texturizing my hair.

Bubln...I definitely understand you. I have 3b/c hair, and i wear my hair back in a curly ponytail. I am so bored!!! People constantly tell me to just wear my hair out while it is curly, but I don't really like it, although I get lots of compliments that way. I miss the long straight look, but I realized that's what happened before, and I went back to the relaxer. Then I regretted it, did the transition, got bored again, relaxed and now here I am back to square one!!! I would suggest getting it straightened first, so that way if you change your mind, you wont feel guilty. But it's your hair, and I love your hair, but either way, think about it. Good luck!!

How does your stylist press your hair? I'm worried that I'm losing my naps because of the heat from the pressing comb.

I will support you either way and I am sure you will be beautiful with relaxed or natural hair. But girl that pic in your siggy is beautiful. I am currently transitioning and want a touch up so bad but I am so longing to see my natural hair. I am in braids right now and will be the entire time I am transitioning. (Crying) Don't do it....I must admit that you and MKstar (I forgot her exact screen name but I am sure you know who I mean) are my main inspirations. I remember when you had in your siggy that your hair was "...automatic,supersonic, hypnotic, funkyfresh...". Girl your hair is off the chain.

Here's the verdict, ladies- I think I am just gonna invest in that dang maxiglide.:wallbash: I sure hope it is worth the money. I am going to order it Friday (hopefully), in time for my 3 year natural anniversary next month. Here's what I am gonna do to my hair:

1. Wash, condition and do a hot oil treatment.
2. Use a setting lotion (anyone have any suggestions?) and roll my hair with big rollers (this will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes in itself). This step should make the maxigliding more easy.
3. After it is dry, I will apply wild growth oil over my entire head (not that much, cause I heard it STANK) and proceed to maxiglide.

Whaddoyallthink?

This method usually works for me when I want to wear straight hair for a change. I prefer Perm Repair setting lotion - dries firm but not hard or crunchy. Don't use too much WGO - a little goes a long way. For maintenance you can try pin-curls to keep your curls soft and free-flowing. I usually can get away with wearing a rollerset for nearly 3 weeks if I take care of it (doing 4-5 pin curls at night or wrapping it when I want a straighter, flatter look/protecting it from any moisture for ex. wearing hats when it rains and scarf + shower cap in the shower/wearing a tight ponytail or wrapped tightly while working out).

Good luck with your decision!

Okay, bump the maxiglide, I am gonna try that ceramic iron Black Cardinal used for her hair, the Conair ThermalShine ceramic plated flat iron!! She said it was like $15 bucks!!

Girl I have on old $15 Revlon flat-iron that does the trick every time! (I may invest in a new one soon because this one is very old and has a slight burnt smell.) Whichever one you get be sure to get one that has varied heat settings - mines ranges from 1-20. I didn't have any luck with the ones that just had the high and low options.
